OUT - Loan - Lionel Ainsworth

Winger Lionel Ainsworth has left for a one month loan deal with Brentford this afternoon, as Lee Clark looks to get reserve winger Ainsworth some good League One experience on loan. The club revealed that Ainsworth who joined in the transfer window last January from Watford asked the club for first team game time.

Andy Scott the Brentford manager is "delighted" to add someone of Ainsworth's quality to his squad.

In other news Town are being linked with a loan move for young Liverpool striker Nathan Ecclestone. The 19 year old England youth International is hoping for excellent experience by joining the Terriers and would go straight into contention for the match at Yeovil Town on Saturday afternoon.

Brighton & Hove Albion (Away) | League One | Tuesday February 09 2010 (19:45 k/o)

The Terriers make a long midweek trip to the South Coast to face Brighton and Hove Albion (rearranged from January 23rd due to Albion's continuation in the FA Cup). A 500-miles round trip to the Withdean Stadium is never the easiest, a Tuesday night arrangement for the majority of Terriers will prove almost impossible.

It is all ticket for travelling Town fans with the cost of admission as follows:

Adults: £20
Under 21: £16
Seniors: £14
Under 16: £13
Accompanied Under 10: £1

Wheelchair users are kindly asked to contact Brighton directly on 0845 496 1901.

The Withdean Stadium is a temporary stadium for the football club with Albion attempting to build a new stadium since they sold their former Goldstone Ground home in 1997. Once voted amongst the worst in England, the predominately athletics stadium as an 8,850 seating capacity with away supporters designated the West Stand. Such was the plight of Brighton for two years following the sale of the Goldstone they had to ground share with Kent rivals Gillingham prior to moving back to the Sussex Coast in 1999.

The club as received planning permission so hopefully for the club, and it's supporters they can commence the building of their new permanent home on the outskirts of the popular coastal resort.

The West Stand at the Withdean is perhaps one of the worst in the country for visiting supporters. Nothing more than a uncovered makeshift seating area for 900 supporters. But the friendly nature of the Brighton stewards help to make the bleak nature of the stadium a little more hospitable. The stand is set into a banking, separated from many other parts of the ground and a long way from the playing surface, given this is an athletics stadium by primary use.

Think Rotherham United, think the Don Valley Stadium, but much worse.

However, on a cold Tuesday February evening, 500 miles from home it could be a very difficult evening for Town fans if Town's recent Tuesday night performances are anything to go by.

Post Code: BN1 5JD (this is for the Withdean Stadium, the Brighton club has a separate contact post code).

Hartlepool United (Away) | League One | Saturday February 20 2010 (15:00 k/o)

Town travel the relatively short distance to the North East to face Hartlepool United on February 20th which is one of seven in a action packed month for the Terriers. Town have been allocated 964 tickets for the 15:00 kick off fixture at Victoria Park.

Admission is as follows:

Adults: £20
Seniors (over 60s): £10
17-21 year olds: £10
Under 16s: £10

Wheelchair and ambulant disabled cost £20, with carer admitted free of charge. Please note ID is required at the stadium for admission.

The 7,691 mixed (seating and standing) capacity Victoria Park as been in operation since 1886, but over that time development naturally as taken place with the North Eastern club looking to make further investment in the home of the Monkey Hangers. Away fans are housed in the Rink End at the stadium the only area to suffer from supporting pillar restricted access.

Hartlepool still allow home fans to stand. The paddock in the Millhouse Stand (to the right of the away supporters) is terracing, whilst the end opposite the away stand - The Town End - is standing. They do however have plans to redevelop the Rink End and move away supporters into The Town End.

Southampton (Away) | League One | Tuesday March 02 2010 (19:45 k/o)

The League One match due to be played tomorrow at St Mary's between Southampton and Huddersfield Town was called off earlier this week due to the continued freezing conditions experienced throughout the UK.

The match has been rearranged for Tuesday March 02, 2010 (19:45 kick off). This match with Brighton & Hove Albion and Carlisle United means Town not only has a action packed next couple of months with fixtures, but also three long midweek journeys.

Over 700 tickets were sold for the original fixture, these tickets are valid for the rearranged date. Should you not be able to attend the new fixture the club asks that you contact the club for a full refund of the purchase price paid.

Admission into St Mary's is charged at:

Adults: £22
Seniors (over 60s): £17
17-21 year olds: £17
Under 16s: £10
Under 12s: £5

An Adult and Under 16 ticket costs £27 when purchased together.
An adult and Under 12 ticket costs £22 when purchased together.

Wheelchair and ambulant disabled cost £22, with carer admitted free of charge.

But with a 462 mile round trip to make for Yorkshire based supporters on a Tuesday night (the fourth longest!), it is unlikely many will see the Terriers first ever match at Southampton's impressive new home.

Transfer Activity (Loan, In) Terriers sign Krystian Pearce

Huddersfield Town yesterday made their first signing of the January window with the capture of young England and Birmingham City talented centre-half Krystian Pearce on loan until the end of the season with an option to make the deal permanent in summer. Birmingham born Pearce was on the bench for yesterday's first team 0-0 draw at home to Bristol Rovers and started the reserves match at Grimsby today.

Pearce will take the number 27 shirt at the Galpharm Stadium.

Manager Lee Clark is confident that the pace and power of the 20 year old starlet will offer the Terriers something different to what he already has in his defensive armoury.

Click here for more details on Pearce's career to date.

The Terriers are also looking to take on Neal Trotman (on loan) until the end of the season from Preston North End. The North End youngster currently out of favour with new manager Darren Ferguson at Deepdale is said to be in talks with the Galpharm Stadium club about a possible move until summer.

Charity shirt breaks records as "The Yorkshire Club" is at it again!

Not intent on just raising money for the Terriers, but Sean Jarvis and his Commercial department continue to uproots previous Town administrations by showing the football world this is a new Huddersfield Town and is truly embracing it's title "The Yorkshire Club".

And Sean and his team was at it again on Saturday. Many Town fans were left wondering if they had entered the comic strip of "Roy of The Rovers", but looking around this was definitely the Galpharm Stadium not Mel Park and it was certainly Huddersfield Town not Melchester Rovers.

But why was Town in red and yellow stripes ... well as a one-off kit to raise even further money for the Yorkshire Air Ambulance and the Town Academy through the Keep It Up Campaign, Town was wearing the colours of the Air Ambulance, and how striking it was. Even better Town won a tough match in it against Southend United and our own 'Roy Race' Jordan Rhodes delighted the home faithful with a typically well taken brace.

With 500 made and Town hoping to raise in the region of £20,000 for the Campaign, Town announced today that few remain on sale, after Terriers queued after Saturday's fixture to obtain their limited shirt. As of this morning limited numbers of the shirt remained available for fans to purchase.

This is just another example of what Town is doing for the community, doing for Charity. This is the new Huddersfield Town and it is a forwarding thinking well-run football club.

Yet again Messers, Hoyle, Clibbens and Jarvis show they are taking Town forward with every possible opportunity.

Passionate about the Blue & White of Huddersfield Town ... we here at thisisthebarmyarmy.co.uk are ...

Some Statistics for Southend United (Home) | League One | Saturday January 16 2010

This Saturday we welcome back League action to the Galpharm Stadium for the first time in 2010. With the improving weather Lee Clark see's his side take on mid table Southend United in what will be the club's first league game since the 1-0 victory over MK Dons at the Galpharm on December 28th.

The weather forced a two week break for Clark's side who have played just the cup match against West Bromich Albion in 2010. Steve Tilson brings his side north full of confidence despite the Terriers unbeaten stretch continuing at home. Tilson's side raced into a 2-0 lead on the opening Saturday afternoon only for Town to fightback and secure a point.

Saturday will pit two of the divisions leading scorers together. Jordan Rhodes for Huddersfield with 11 in the league (15 overall) and United's Lee Barnard 17 goals overall (15 in the league). But whereas Rhodes has company in the leading scoring charts, Barnard's next highest scoring colleague has just three.

Southend is also on a winning run, their last league game was a 2-1 victory at Leyton Orient on the same Monday afternoon when Town defeated MK Dons.

The Terriers have yet to lose a league match to a club in the bottom half of the table, whereas Southend have won just 3 against the top half. Southend in 13th have lost four or their last five matches, drawing the other one. Town's last 5 league matches at home have resulted in 4 wins and 1 draw.

Lee Clark who has a fully fit first team squad wouldn't mind too much a repeat of the March 1975 Leeds Road when Town defeated their Essex visitors 4-1. But Southend are always confident of winning in Huddersfield having not lost in their last 3 visits. Two wins (including last season's 1-0 win) and a 0-0 draw are the last three matches in Huddersfield. You have to go back to April 2004 for a Town victory - Pawel Abbott with the only goal on 30 minutes.

There have been 15 matches between the two sides in West Yorkshire. Town hold a narrow advantage over Saturday's visitors with 7 victories to 5 for the men from Essex. There's been 3 ties. Town's 22 goals on home soil is 6 more than their opponents.

A draw tomorrow would replicate the results of the 2005/2006 season. A draw in August (1-1 at Southend) was followed up by 0-0 draw in December. However Clark will be keen to ensure his side get the win and set the side up well for Tuesday night's visit of Bristol Rovers (rearranged from January 2nd).

The Terriers have no league game next Saturday afternoon due to Brighton & Hove Albion's cup run.

Remember to bring Sunglasses!

Transfer Activity (Released, Out) - Matthew Glennon

Matthew Glennon's three and a half year association with and 122 games for Huddersfield Town came to an end today as the 31 year old goalkeeper mutually agreed with the club to end the remaining six months of his contract early. Glennon who was signed by Peter Jackson from Scottish side St Johnstone has had a decent tenure at Town and he will go to pastures new with the best wishes of everyone connected with the club.

An excellent shot-stopper in 2007 he once saved three penalties in the one match. The new pastures are not too far from Town, as Glennon signed a deal until the end of the current season offering Stuart McCall the experienced 'keeper he so desperately wanted.

Glennon lost his place in the Town side following the departure of Stan Ternent has manager. Jerry Murphy the then-Academy Director was installed as caretaker boss and he introduced Academy 'keeper and highly-rated Alex Smithies to the starting line-up in December 2008. Up to Murphy benching him Glennon had played 123 matches consecutively.

With the return (from Bradford City) of Simon Eastwood, another highly-rated young goalkeeper Glennon who remarked (and rightfully so) that he would like first team action, saw himself down to number 3 and therefore a move was always on the cards.

-

Transfer Activity (Loan, Out) - Spencer Harris

The young Academy product defender Spencer Harris will remain for an additional month with Unibond Premier League side Curzon Ashton. It will be the second month Harris will spend with the non-league side.

Terriers refute press speculation regarding Lee Clark

There as been mounting stories coming from various media sources during Sunday and Monday linking Huddersfield Town manager Lee Clark with the vacant position at Burnley. But according to both Clark and Chairman Dean Hoyle (who appointed Clark manager 13 months ago) there as been no approach from the Premier League club for the Town boss.

One newspaper reported that Lee Clark had already held an interview with Burnley, with bookmakers installing Clark favourite to succeed Owen Coyle at Turf Moor, but Clark has stated that he has had no contact with Burnley and he is only interested in preparing Town for Saturday's home match against Southend United.

Hoyle has stated that he has an open and honest relationship with the first team manager and that the first he heard of this was on SKY Sports News on Sunday. He does say for Town management and players to be linked elsewhere is "flattering" because it means the club is going about their business in the right manner.

So for the record Lee Clark has stated he has no comment to make, because there is nothing to comment on but has stated to the official website that he has had "no contact with Burnley".

Transfer Activity (Rumour, In) - Charlie Mulgrew

Rumour has it that Huddersfield Town is set to raid SPL side Aberdeen for left sided defender Charlie Mulgrew. The highly rated former Scotland International defender is reported to be ready to listen to Huddersfield's offer with the Terriers set to offer a pre-contract offer.

Although nothing official as come out of either club, and it appears that Town has yet to make an official approach for the Scottish player, the rumours are growing on this one.

-

Transfer Activity (Loan, Out) - Matthew Glennon

Huddersfield reserve goalkeeper Matthew Glennon is set for talks with League Two side Bradford City as the Bantams look to take Glennon on loan until the end of the season. It is said that talks between the two clubs are at an early stage. Bradford has just allowed fellow Terriers goalkeeper Simon Eastwood to return to the Galpharm Stadium with City boss Stuart McCall stating he wants a more experienced goalkeeper to help shore-up his leaky inexperienced defence.

Southampton Fixture Rearranged

Butler set to make Pools debut on Saturday

Even Andy Butler has called the loan to Blackpool a "weird one" given he has gone up a division, and said the deal has come about very quickly but the 26 year old who strives on a challenge is set to make his Blackpool debut this weekend at Cardiff City. Butler will be cover for the Rob Edwards and Ian Evatt both of who are currently suspended for Tangerines, so boss Ian Holloway will be hoping the Doncaster Rovers born defender can fit straight into his side.

The no-nonsense defender who did well for Town, has been out of the First Team due to the form of the two Clarke's and was given this opportunity late last night, rubber stamping the loan until the end of the season this morning, has Championship experience with Scunthorpe United, so the level should not worry him.

All the best to Andy.

-

Transfer Activity (out) - Butler goes on loan to Blackpool

Town has today been involved in their second piece of transfer activity and Andy Butler joins his former Scunthorpe United colleague Jim Goodwin in exiting the Galpharm Stadium. Butler who was signed from the Iron by former manager Stan Ternent on a free transfer in July 2008, as joined Blackpool on loan until the end of the season.

The 26 year old has dropped down the pecking order this season with Peter Clarke and Nathan Clarke taking over the centre back positions, and the move will be seen as positive by the player who has made 58 appearances for the Terriers (scoring 4 times). Butler is under contract with Huddersfield Town until next summer, and is delighted to be moving to Blackpool as he has become frustrated at the reduction in first team appearances this season.

Meanwhile, Jim Goodwin as stated that he is happy to be playing first team football with Oldham and gave the impression during a media interview that the move could be made longer than the one month it was arranged for. Goodwin hopes to impress Latics boss Dave Penney in the bid for a longer loan deal and than perhaps a permanent deal should Town wish to let the hard working midfielder, who appears to be surplus to requirements, leave the club.

Goodwin was also given a contract by Stan Ternent who brought in the player from Scunthorpe United during the summer of 2008, until Summer 2011.

Chairman Dean Hoyle has stated that although he will back manager Lee Clark with transfer targets, he did state again that the club has a transfer budget and felt that to bring players in, players had to leave. With these two departed, and likely to be permanent in the future, then Clark may have negotiation with his chairman and some leeway to bring in the rumoured two defenders and creative midfielder he is said to be looking to acquire.

Inclement weather decimates League One Fixtures

The big freeze is certainly having it says on the Football Calendar this winter. Matches in previous weeks have succumbed to the unprecedented cold snap in England, this weekend's League One fixtures are no different. A total of nine of the scheduled fixtures have already been postponed including the Terriers trip to Southampton. How times change, when Southampton visited the Galpharm Stadium for Town's first home match of the season it was scorching hot (watch the Terriers first goal in the 3-1 win).

The fixtures already postponed are:

Brighton v Brentford
Oldham v Leyton Orient
Southampton v Huddersfield
Charlton v Hartlepool
Bristol Rovers v Stockport
MK Dons v Swindon
Yeovil v Colchester
Gillingham v Tranmere
Carlisle v Millwall

FA Charge Terriers!

Huddersfield Town has followed MK Dons in being charge by the Football Association following the Bank Holiday Monday fixture which Town won 1-0. Most of the 22 players on the pitch had a coming together towards the end of the fixture following a bad challenge on Tom Clarke by Luke Chadwick.

The altercation say Lee Peltier booked for the Terriers including two from the visitors and the FA has charged Town under Rule E20 - failing to control the players.

Town have until January 19th to respond to the charge.

-

Brighton & Hove Albion (away) - new fixture date

The away fixture at Brighton and Hove Albion as been rearranged to Tuesday February 9th (kick off 19:45), due to Brighton's advancement to the FA Cup 4th Round. Albion won 1-0 at Torquay United to set up a tie at Aston Villa on the original date of Saturday January 23rd, the date of Town's visit to the South Coast.

It means Town supporters have a long trip to the Withdean Stadium midweek.

-

Southampton (Away) | League One | Saturday January 09 2010 - OFF!

Huddersfield Town's League One fixture at Southampton has this morning been postponed due to the inclement weather affecting Hampshire. With conditions unlikely to improve up to match day, the Saints have taken the early decision to cancel the fixture. It would seem that they have concerns about the pitch and the surrounding areas and keen to prevent the Town team and supporters from travelling the long distance only for the match referee to cancel the game.

No date as been set for the rearranged fixture, however it is likely to be a Tuesday evening ... not good for the 700 plus who have already purchased tickets for what will be Town's first visit to St Mary's.

The postponement joins a host of matches in League One. The matches due to be played at Brighton, Charlton and Oldham have already been postponed, with the Championship match at Hillsborough also falling to the weather. There's just one so far in League Two off (at Cheltenham) and a number of Scottish Cup matches will also not take place.

This is the second away League fixture in just over two weeks that as fallen to the weather, and with the Brighton & Hove Albion (away) match also needing to be rescheduled due to Brighton's involvement in the FA Cup Fourth Round, Lee Clark's side will see a number of long midweek journeys to make in the forthcoming future.

Town's next match will now be Saturday January 16th when the Terriers host Southend United at the Galpharm Stadium.

More news to follow on the rearranged date for the trip to Southampton.

Some Statistics for Southampton (Away) | League One | Saturday January 09 2010

Saturday's visit to Southampton's 'New Ground' - St Mary's (or The Friends Provident St Mary's Stadium" to give it it's full commercial title) will be Huddersfield Town's first visit (another to add to the collection Town fans!) since the Saints moved from The Dell in 2001.

Although Southampton was docked 10 points at the start of the season by The Football League they have improved as the season as progressed and are proving to be a quality team. They sit half way just now, but without the points deduction would be on the same points as Town and be a place behind the Terriers.

Of the last 5 matches for the Saints at St Mary's they have won 3, drawn once, and lost the other. Not many Town fans will need reminding of the poor away form this season, which is really preventing the Terriers making a closer move towards the automatic places. Our last five on the road have seen 1 win, 1 draw and 3 defeats. The last away fixture at Carrow Road ended in a disappointing 3-0 loss despite a positive first period showing.

There have not been many fixtures between the two clubs with only 10 matches at Southampton in all competitions. Southampton has won 5 of these matches, Town 2 the other 3 draws. Southampton's 20 home goals is 7 more than Town have scored.

The last league match in Southampton ended in a 2-1 victory for the Terriers in September 1971. The last visit was in a League Cup match. Town had lost the first leg 1-0 at the then McAlpine Stadium, and followed that up with a 4-0 loss at The Dell, a victory inspired by Saints Legend Matthew Le Tissier.

Ironically the only ever match between Saints and Town in January (in 1965) ended with the highest aggregate scoreline of 3-3 at The Dell. So there could just be goals on Saturday at the St Mary's! One thing is for sure Town fans will be treated to one of the best Stadia in League One and there should be a decent attendance for the third away League fixture on the bounce, following recent visits to Elland Road and Carrow Road.

Southampton (Away) | League One | Saturday January 09 2009 (15:00 k/o)

After the Terriers exit from the FA Cup last Saturday - the first defeat at home this season, indeed the first loss at home since April 2009 when Southend United beat Town 1-0, back them to strike back at St Mary's this coming Saturday (weather permitting).

The Terriers make their fourth longest trip on Saturday to Southampton some 462 miles (round trip)!

Tickets are priced as:

January 9th visit to Southampton will be the first League Match between the two sides in Hampshire since September 1971 when Huddersfield won 2-1. It will also be the Terriers first visit to Southampton's impressive new St Mary's Stadium since their 2001 move from the Dell.

The stadium - "The Friends Provident St Mary's Stadium" to give it it's full commercial title, is an impressive 32,600 all seater affair which is fit to grace the high echelons of English football. However, the Saints have experienced a torrid time on and off the pitch and started this season on -15 points. That negative points start was further compounded when Town ran riot in a 3-1 home victory in August.

Town fans will be allocated seating in a part of the Northam Stand (the North Stand), towards the Itchen Stand, which is behind the goal. Normally 3,200 away supporter seats are available and many visiting supporters have called their visit to one of the best new stadia in England as "excellent". Video wall screens are situated in the roof of both end stands, so Town fans will have a good view of the scoreline.

At 32,689 St Mary's is one of the biggest in League One and is the largest football stadium in the south of the country outside of the capital. The 'bowl' arena encourages a decent atmosphere and the visit comes on the heels of away days at two of the other bigger stadia in League One - Elland Road and Carrow Road.

Southampton is averaging decent home crowds this season and the highest attendance at the ground is 32,151 for the visit of Arsenal in December 2003. More recently due to problems off the field, on the field and declining attendances parts of the stadium were closed off, but due to the recent increase it is once again fully opened.

England have also played a full International match at the stadium, and like the Galpharm Stadium it is used for many over purposes during the week and hosted a number of popular music concerts.

The stadium hosted four seasons of Premier League matches followed by four seasons of Championship football before Southampton's relegation to League One last season. 17,849 (last season's average attendance) is the smallest in the history of the stadium. The current average is 19,665 which is 60.1% of the capacity of the stadiu.

Like Town, Southampton is one of the form teams of League One currently and although they score goals, they concede as well.

Paul Ince charged!

Following an incident during the heated 1-0 victory over Milton Keynes Dons on Bank Holiday Monday (December 28th) MK Dons manager Paul Ince has been charged by the Football Association on Improper Conduct Grounds. Ince raced onto the pitch during a scuffle between the players in second half injury time, then appeared to have a rather aggressive confrontation with match referee David Foster on the final whistle. Ince also appeared to send a hand gesticulation towards the match offical.

Ince who saw his side beaten 1-0 and Alex Smithies save a first half penalty, got increasingly angry during the second half, during a match that the Terriers dominated and could have won by more than a single goal. Despite the claims after the match from Ince, who must have been watching a different game, that his side was the better side, the fixture could have finished 4-4 (given they only had 2 shots on target!) and that they were the fresher side at the end of the game.

The 1-0 win for Lee Clark's side gave them a 'double' over the Dons having won at stadium:mk 3-2 earlier in the season and showed real character against a tough and physical Dons side, who went in with a number of hefty challenges, and Luke Chadwick for one, was lucky not to see red during the League One match.

Lee Clark, ever the excellent professional he is, simply wished his counterpart well for the future, and thanked the MK Dons for giving the Terriers an excellent match. Granted, the Terriers were not as fluid as they have been in recent weeks, but the battling element and the doing the less glamorous stuff just as well came out well. Clark was quick to reiterate to the media that he does not wish his players to get involved in scuffle, which saw a couple booked from Milton Keynes and Lee Peltier pick up a booking for Town.

Update: 06/01/2010 - The Football Association as further charged Milton Keynes FC with failing to control their players following the melee at the end of the League One match last month. Two MK Dons players saw yellow and Luke Chadwick was lucky not to see red. The former Manchester United midfielder, could have seen a direct red or a second yellow but escaped what would have been valid punishment.

Other Fixture News

The next two home matches will be category C fixtures. The January 16th match against Southend United and the midweek match with Bristol Rovers on Tuesday January 19th. You may recall the fixture with Rovers was rearranged from January 2nd due to the Terriers continuation in the FA Cup.

The away fixture at Brighton and Hove Albion will now be rearranged, with the date to follow, due to Brighton's advancement to the FA Cup 4th Round. Albion won 1-0 at Torquay United to set up a tie at Aston Villa on Saturday January 23rd, the date of Town's visit to the South Coast.

Also to be rearranged is the postponed tie at Carlisle United. That was postponed on Boxing Day due to an unfit pitch by the match referee Karl Evans on the grounds of health and safety.

Midfielder Jim Goodwin was the first transfer movement involving Huddersfield Town during the transfer window, as the 28 year old joined fellow League One side on a one-month emergency loan deal.
