Jordan Rhodes signs for Huddersfield Town Huddersfield Town manager Lee Clark today made his sixth summer signing with the capture of highly regarded Ipswich Town striker Jordan Rhodes on a four year deal. Rhodes a former Barnsley striker who came through the ranks at Portman Road is a player Clark has tracked during his loan spell with Brentford last season. Rhodes who will wear the number 17 shirt vacated by the departure of Keigan Parker to Oldham Athletic earlier this month joins on an undisclosed fee by Suffolk sources report the fee could be up to the region of "£250,000 with significant sign-ons". Ipswich fans are disgusted with the sale of Rhodes with one Tractor Boys website calling the Rhodes sale "a shock exit" another supporter of Ipswich simply called the sale "rubbish". Many linked with Ipswich believe that Rhodes has a long and bright future ahead of him and supporters of them are unimpressed with the sale. It now takes Lee Clark's summer signings to six, and this is the third summer striker arrival, fourth if you include Lee Novak who was signed in January but loaned back immediately to Gateshead. Rhodes becomes the fourth young untested striker to join Town under Clark, but Clark has said he cannot be more happier with the four strikers at his disposal. Rhodes is 19, Theo Robinson 20, Lee Novak 20 and Robbie Simpson 24. And thats not even including the likes of Lionel Ainsworth (21) and Anthony Pilkington (20) - Town have a young exciting squad the future could look very bright in Blue & White. Within the Town squad there are only three players who were born before 1980 - Chris Lucketti, Matthew Glennon and Phil Jevons and of those likely to appear regularly in the match day squad the oldest at 27 is captain Peter Clarke. Clark has certainly gone for youth and potential and players he believes he can mould, but all of his signings are exciting young products with high hopes attached to them. Clark matches the ambition of Dean Hoyle of reaching the top flight as soon as possible, but want to do this through playing a vibrant, attacking style of football and the Chairman has backed his manager 100% this transfer period, as the Terriers have spent big money on transfer fees and wages. Clark previously said that he wanted to sign the best young talent available and he has certainly done that during the two transfer windows he has been Town manager to date. Commenting on his latest signing Clark said: "It's been a long time coming. We saw him playing for Brentford last season and we were very impressed and we actually tried to get him then. When Jim Magilton was in charge we contacted Ipswich to try and get a loan deal done when the window was open, but he'd just picked up a metatarsal injury at the time and his season was over. We've just kept monitoring the situation since then and we're absolutely delighted to get him on board." Rhodes should make this Town debut at Wrexham tomorrow - the final pre-season match of the summer. Rhodes will be the only new addition to the squad that brush aside Macclesfield Town on Tuesday evening with Jim Goodwin (knee) and Chris Lucketti (heel) still missing. The Terriers had an initial bid for the striker rejected but an improved bid as been accepted. The fee is believed to be within the region of £100,000 to £150,000 with that increasing based on the performance of both the club and the player. Neither club as made an official comment about the player, but press reports from both Ipswich and Huddersfield suggest that Rhodes has passed a medical and is discussing terms. The player was expected to sign a deal with the Terriers yesterday but there as been a hold up and press reports from South could suggest the player is having second thoughts on a move to West Yorkshire. The Tracker Boys fans have been disheartened to hear that a crowd favourite of theirs could be on his way out of Portman Road to become the sixth summer signing at the Galpharm Stadium. The signing of Rhodes would become the third summer striker signing and the fourth if you include the winter signing of Lee Novak from Gateshead. Town would like Rhodes in the ranks ahead of the final pre-season fixture at the Racecourse Ground tomorrow afternoon (kick-off 15:00), but he is now back training with the Suffolk club. The admission prices for the match with Dean Saunders Wrexham tomorrow costs £10 for adults, £7 concessions and £5 for under 16s. Clark chases further additions Lee Clark has said that he continues to chase new acquisitions to his Town roster for the coming season with up to three names expected to join the club prior to the kick-off of the new League One season in 10 days time. One of those expected to join is 19-year-old Ipswich Town striker Jordan Rhodes who is highly thought about at Portman Road. The Ipswich manager has confirmed that a number of clubs have enquired about Rhodes, with one of them rumoured to be Huddersfield Town. Clark made his statement following his side's 3-0 victory at Moss Rose in their penultimate pre-season fixture (the final one is this Saturday at Wrexham). Although Clark was happy with the performance he felt the second period was disjointed and in the first half Town could have been more clinical in front of goal and scored double the number they did. Town was 2-0 up at half time, a lovely finish by Anthony Pilkington for the first and a thunderbolt from Michael Collins for the second. Robbie Simpson added a late second from the penalty spot following a trip on substitute Lee Novak who was as lively as ever and in contention for a place in the squad in 10 days time at Root Hall. Clark has been given the total backing of chairman Dean Hoyle to bring in the three faces, which would take Town's incoming deals to eight players. The manager wants quality competition for places and always maintained that should he be able to move some players out he would bring in others. Clark has said that he has the "green light" to bring in the three additional players, but is happy with the squad he has assembled should these signings not come off. This summer the manager as signed Anthony Kaye, Peter Clarke, Robbie Simpson, Lee Peltier and Theo Robinson. -

Terriers defeat Macc with ease! Match Result | Macclesfield Town 0-3 Huddersfield Town | Pre-Season | Moss Rose Stadium | 28/07/2009 Lee Clark is down to the business end now in pre-season and with that in mind he need a full strength starting 11 for the fixture this evening at the Moss Rose, against League Two Macclesfield Town. Clark who welcomed back Lee Peltier for the fixture with Keith Alexander's side having missed the weekend match through illness. Clark who today told midfielder Michael Flynn he can leave the club called tonight's match and that on Saturday as massive games named Andy Butler in the centre of defence with captain Peter Clarke with Theo Robinson and Robbie Simpson in attack in a 4-4-2 formation. The final scoreline was much better than the only other visit when the Terriers lost their league match 4-0 in December 2003 as they brushed aside the hosts in a fulfilled performance. Goals from Anthony Pilkington, Michael Collins and a spot kick from Robbie Simpson gave Clark's side a resounding 3-0 victory. The final pre-season match is this Saturday at the Racecourse Ground. The match kicks-off at 15:00 and costs £10 admission for adults, concessions at £7 and under 16's £5. Lee Clark will again name a strong side for the visit to North Wales. - |

Town tie with Sky Blues Match Result | Huddersfield Town 0-0 Coventry City | Pre-Season | Galpharm Stadium | 25/07/2009 A crowd of over 3,800 (including 250 from Coventry) bathed in glorious July sunshine this afternoon as the Terriers drew their latest pre-season encounter. It was the visitors who came the closest to securing the victory when on 20 minutes they had an effort chalked off by the officials for offside. Lee Clark who rung the changes to the side that started on Tuesday evening against Newcastle United and the formation had Lee Peltier missing through illness, but the starting 11 for two-weeks today is still anyone's guess with the Terriers beginning with Robbie Simpson as a lone striker. That formation was changed at half time to a more conventional 4-4-2 formation with the introduction of Theo Robinson for Jame Berrett who was Anthony Kay and Michael Collins made up the central midfield trio. Although the Championship side had chances so did Town and it was former Sky Blue Simpson and Robinson who created the best chances for the home side. The visitors dominated the first period whilst it was Town who enjoyed the better of the second half as the change of formation worked in favour of the home side. - Easty goes to Bradford on loan Goalkeeper Simon Eastwood has become the latest Town player to be loaned out by joining League Two side Bradford City on loan until January. The 20 year old who has represented his country at Under-18 and Under-19 level makes the switch to the Bantams in order to achieve some first team football experience at a high level. Eastwood was a second half substitute for Bradford City this afternoon at Valley Parade during their 2-0 defeat to Championship side Barnsley. It could be regarded as a shock move this one, with many believing that Eastwood would be the first choice back up to Alex Smithies and perhaps first choice should Smithies have moved. The Academy product spent time out on loan last season but was drafted back to the Galpharm Stadium to cover for Smithies following injury to Matthew Glennon. Manager Lee Clark has said he is looking forward to Eastwood obtaining good experience whilst on loan at Valley Parade and he will be keeping a close eye on his development. - Two new sponsors on Terriers kit! There's two new brands featuring on the kit of Huddersfield Town next season. Halifax based Wilby Limited an insurance broker and risk specialist will feature on the back on the home shirts, whilst Highways consulting specialist firm Sanderson Associates based within the town will be home and away first team short sponsors. - |

Two leave on loan! Ian Craney and Phil Jevons have both left the Galpharm Stadium today both heading for League Two Morecambe. The deal was brokered following the pre-season match at Christie Park on Saturday, which the Terriers won 3-0. Midfielder Craney and striker Jevons will join the Shrimpers on season long loans. Town will only be able to recall the players in January. Former captain Andy Holdsworth who rejected the offer of a new contract at Huddersfield has become the latest former Terrier to join League One rivals Oldham Athletic. Holdsworth signed a 2-year contract with the Lancashire side becoming the second former Terriers captain to join the Boundary Park side. Dave Penney added Jon Worthington to his earlier this off-season and striker Pawell Abbott a former Town player joined from Penney's former club Darlington. Keigan Parker is set to join Oldham from Huddersfield Town as well, but there is no confirmation that this transaction as taken place. The movement of Craney and Jevons and that of Parker could enable Town boss Lee Clark to bring in the couple of extra players he is looking for. The website would like to wish both players all the best at Morecambe. -

It's now three wins out of three for Newcastle United whose supporters travelled in numbers to see their players wearing orange and lemon stripes defeat the Terriers in from of a 9,691. So lively was the match there was a scuffle as the players entered the tunnel at half time. Clark used perhaps his starting 11 for League One. Alex Smithies in goal, with a back four of Lee Peltier, Joe Skarz, Andy Butler and captain Peter Clarke. Midfield consisted of Gary Roberts, Michael Collins, Anthony Kay and Anthony Pilkington with the forward line of Robbie Simpson and Theo Robinson. There was plenty of chances in the game with the better dropping for the visitors who found Smithies in imperious form, United's Kazenga LuaLua was excellent throughout and the Toon will be hoping he can use that form to help Newcastle regain a place quickly back in the Premier League. Terriers manager a former favourite on Tyneside, said he will take positives and negatives from last night's defeat and focus on the poorer elements of the Terriers game to ensure these are eradicated come the commencement of the League programme on August 8th. -

Theo 'hat' it again! Match Result | Morecambe 0-3 Huddersfield Town | Pre-Season | Christie Park | 18/07/2009 Huddersfield Town continued it's decent pre-season thus far with an impressive 3-0 Theo Robinson inspired victory at Christie Park this afternoon. The 400-odd Terriers that turned up on the Lancashire coastline for the latest pres-season match with Morecambe would have been delighted with the application, poise and performance for the players in blue and white stripes. The 3-0 scoreline did not flatter the Terriers who could have had more was it not for a good performance for the Morecambe keeper, but Theo Robinson inspired the Terriers to a comprehensive victory with his second hat-trick in a week. But Robinson's performance was one of a litter of excellent displays this afternoon with Theo's strike partner Robbie Simpson, winger Lionel Ainsworth and captain Peter Clarke all having excellent matches. Town pushed the ball around Christie Park with poise and elegance and some of the football on display simply blew away the plucky home side, who despite being comprehensively outplayed had little resistance to the attacking prowess of the Yorkshiremen who at times flowed forward at will and were rampant in approach. To be fair to Morecambe whose assistant manager is former Terriers hero, and thisisthebarmyarmy.co.uk 'Legend' Mark Lillis they did have a late effort in the first half skim the outside of Simon Eastwood's right-hand post and a late second half claim for a spot kick turned away, but Town's dominant display prevented anything concertive from the home side, who found themselves with little or no answer to Town's quality fluid attacking football.Simply, it was a pleasure to watch. The three goals Town scored, all by that man Robinson, were quality ones and optimised just how good Town attacked. The Terriers enjoyed a decent percentage of possession and for much of it they were composed and elegant with the ball and stroked it about easily. The speed, energy and purpose of Lee Clark's side offensive forays were at times breath-taking, leave Town fans additionally excited for the coming season. If one criticism from today's match is that they will have to work on attacking and defensive corners. Twice Town could have been caught out with Morecambe corners, and particularly the first half, Town wasted a number of corner kicks. Town's marker on the game came within three minutes of the kick-off and paved the way for the manner in which the blue and white's went about their game. Gary Roberts and Robbie Simpson combined well to set-up Robinson whose neat footwork bamboozled the Morecambe defence before slotting home. Despite pressure and efforts the Terriers second did not come until the 43rd minute. A move started and finished by Robinson was in the right place to slide the ball into an open net after James Berrett shot was saved. They say the true essence of a striker with an eye for goal - a goalscoer, is one that can score one-on-one with the 'Keeper, well on 54 minutes in-front of the Town fans that is what Robinson did to cap his hat-trick. A lightning break from Town caused Morecambe problems and Robinson just struck away from his marker before sliding the ball in off the far post. Moments after the Robinson third goal, Simpson almost grabbed the fourth as his rasping drive dipped just over the home goal. The omens are good, this might have been pre-season but this was a composed excellent performance from Lee Clark's side, more of the same on Tuesday! Altogether now ... "There's only one Super Theo, there's only one Super Theo ... he gets the ball, he scores a goal, walking in our Theo Wonderland!" - Jevo scores three as Terriers win again! Match Result | AFC Emley 0-6 Huddersfield Town | Pre-Season | The Welfare Ground | 17/07/2009 Despite torrential rains and heavy winds Huddersfield Town managed to secure a well worked 6-0 victory over AFC Emley last night using a squad predominantly of younger professionals at the club. The older professionals who did feature in the game, the likes of Matthew Glennon, Phil Jevons, Keigan Parker and captain Michael Flynn marshalled by Paul Stephenson served the club well as they pushed aside Ian Banks Northern Counties East Football League side. The Terriers took the lead on 15 minutes through Jevons who linked well with Parker before slotting the ball home, that was doubled moments later with a stunning long range effort from Flynn (18). The Terriers were dominant at this stage and went further ahead on 25 with Jevons second. Within four minutes of the restart the rout continued as Keigan Parker grabbed his first goal of pre-season. The Terriers were making easy work of the tough conditions and on 55 minutes Jevons completed his hat-trick the second player to do such a feat this pre-season. Again Parker and Jevons linked up well. The scoring was finished when young defender Leigh Franks scored the 6th on 69. Stephenson than rang the changes on 74 minutes replacing all the entire starting 11 and the Terriers finished with all under 18 players. The next pre-season contest is this afternoon at Morecambe where Town have announced a full strength squad to face the League Two side. - |

Corby compliment Terriers Beaten pre-season opponents Corby Town paid Lee Clark's Huddersfield Town compliments following last night's 4-1 victory. Steelmen manager Graham Dury told the local Northamptonshire press: "I thought Huddersfield were a quality outfit who were great to watch but that's only going to benefit players like Dave Deeney, Jon Turner and Steve Diggin who've not played against that sort of quality before. All in all, the lads had a really good blow for 45 minutes each and they sat in the dressing room afterwards feeling like they'd played for 180 minutes. That's just what you want from pre-season." - Ticket prices for AFC Emley (away) tomorrow night (7pm) The Terriers next pre-season match is against AFC Emley on Friday evening. The match against the Northern Counties East Football League side will take place at The Welfare Ground with the Terriers looking to continue their recent excellent pre-season form against the side. Last season Town won 8-0 and the season before 3-0. AFC Emley continues to be managed by Ian Banks. Entrance to the match will cost just £6 for adults and concessions at £2. Kick-off for the AFC Emley match is 19:00. - Offensive play encourages Clark! Town comprehensively pushed aside Corby Town last night in a one side affair at the Rockingham Triangle Stadium. A stunning hat-trick from new boy signing Theo Robinson and a fourth from Lee Novak, left manager Lee Clark elated with the manner of the Terriers attacking display. Clark told the official website that he felt that some of the attacking play at Corby was "outstanding" and was delighted to see Robinson and Novak score goals. According to reports coming out of Gloucestershire League Two Cheltenham Town have snapped up a six-month loan deal for Tom Denton with Town picking up his wages. Denton started the Robins pre-season friendly last night at home against Southampton and impressed during his hour on the field before Robins boss Martin Allen rung the changes. Denton worked hard winning plenty of aerial ball, as you'd expect with the 19-year-old standing 6ft 5inch tall and he caused the Saints plenty of trouble during a 0-0 draw at The Abbey Business Stadium. According to the club nothing as been agreed on Denton other than Cheltenham can take a look at him but Lee Clark has agreed to him playing some pre-season matches. - |

Theo becomes a True Blue! Watford striker Theo Robinson has completed his transfer to League One outfit Huddersfield for an undisclosed fee. The Terriers fought off stiff competition from Swindon for the 20-year-old. Robinson found first-team opportunities limited at Vicarage Road and made just six appearances for the Hornets, but he enjoyed an impressive loan spell at Southend last term, hitting seven goals in 21 games. He has signed a three-year deal with the Terriers. The capture of Robinson is the second summer signing of a striker for Lee Clark and the pacey Birmingham based forward becomes signing number five of the summer. Town remain linked with Bristol Rovers striker Ricky Lambert, with manager Lee Clark intent on bringing in six new faces. However, reports state that the deal is stalling over Rovers valuation of the player and Lambert's wage demands. Previous Town target Danny Graham has made his expected move from Carlisle by joining Robinson's former club Watford on a two-year deal. Town tried to sign Graham in the January transfer window but Carlisle turned down a £250,000 bid for the 23-year-old. He was out of contract at Brunton Park but due to his age United will receive compensation. -

Roberts signs contract extension Player of the season Gary Roberts who joined the club only last summer from Ipswich Town has committed his initial future to the blue and white cause by signing a new contract. The exciting winger who ended last season top scorer after a number of impressive performances has signed a three year deal which will see him contracted to the club until Summer 2012. Roberts spoke of the ambition of the club, the manager and chairman Dean Hoyle for the reasons he was only too happy to sign. 'Super' Gary Roberts also spoke of the backing he has received from the Town faithful for another reason why he is happy to commit to the club's three year plan. Roberts signed by previous manager Stan Ternent for around £250,000 last summer on a two-year deal said that the next three years at Huddersfield will be "exciting times" and backs his fellow players and the club for promotion next May. Exciting times ahead as Town embark on the journey ... will that path take them to the Championship for the 2010/2011 season only time will tell. But the players are backing it, the chairman and management team is backing it and so are the supporters. Lee Clark and the club is building with intent on the players they want within the Terriers roster, and that intent is clear they want good quality players who can take Town from this division and become a decent side in the Championship. - 'Rocket' Ron joins up with Warnock Former Town assistant manager Ronnie Jepson who with Stan Ternent left the club last December has agreed a deal with Crystal Palace and their manager Neil Warnock to become the new reserve team manager at Selhurst Park. - Terriers boss targets six or seven leaving the club! Although he has signed four new players already this pre-season and is on the hunt for at least two more manager Lee Clark has said that his squad is at the upper limit of the budgetary controls and the current level of squad is stretching for the Terriers budget. To that extent, Clark has admitted that six or seven players will be leaving the club as they will never feature in his plans and that their exit would be to the mutual benefit of the player and the club. - |

Clark eager for success Busy Huddersfield Town manager Lee Clark is aiming to bring the good times back to the club by addressing his players that anything other than a automatic promotion place next May will be regarded as a failure. The players who returned for pre-season on Monday have had an energetic start to pre-season as Clark plans for a promotion campaign ahead of pre-season matches commencing on July 11 at Gateshead. The Terriers are one of the busiest teams in the off season transfer market are one of the fancied teams for promotion this season. One of the players sharing Clark's ambitious plans for the club is new striker Robbie Simpson who has vowed to score the goals for the Terriers. Simpson who joined the Terriers last month for £300,000 is confident that he will secure the goals to give Town a promotion season in 2009/2010 - something the fans desperately want and need. The club has suffered from far too many false dawns over the recent memory and have underachieved for far too long. Expectations, are high and that is to be expected. Clark said that he will get the supporters off their seats with Chairman Dean Hoyle keeping to his word of "You buy the seats, and I will buy the players." The 24-year-old striker said that he is looking forward to playing in his natural striker position and has vowed to "score goals regularly in League One". Clark who has made four signings thus far this summer and with other potential targets set to join has said he is satisfied with the manner in which he has used Dean Hoyle's money and the transfer war chest given to him. Clark is a young, hungry and ambitious manager with a experienced quality team around him, the players he has brought in thus far share the same vigour, desire and commitment. Like Simpson, the new players want to do well for Town and in Anthony Kay and Peter Clarke they were player of the season at their respective former clubs last season whilst latest signing Lee Peltier comes with a huge reputation from Yeovil Town. One thing is for sure, with Huddersfield Town, football and our expectant fans anything is possible come next May. Will it be a chorus of "The Town Are Going Up!" or yet another damp squib of a season? Wait and see! Remember this football club of ours is on the journey, supporters are an integral part of that journey ... so believe ... believe in blue & white. Show your backing to the Terriers ... back them to promotion and win some money if they do! Bet online with a thisisthebarmyarmy.co.uk online betting and gaming partner. For more details click the link below and see odds from a number of our partners: - Peltier signs! Huddersfield Town today made their fourth summer signing with the capture of highly thought about Yeovil Town right back Lee Peltier. Peltier who came through the ranks at Liverpool is a naturally gifted and classy defender who is skillful, quick and can cross a ball - think Malcolm Brown mould! The 22-year-old has signed on a three year deal and will most certainly fill the void left by Andy Holdsworth decision not to sign a new contract. The fee was not disclosed. Last season the Yeovil Town boss was so pleased with Peltier that he gave him the vice captain's role. He featured highly in Yeovil's end of season awards last term taking the away supporters player of the season title. He scored once for the South West club in 76 appearances. Terry Skiverton hailed his right back who impressed and helped save the Glovers from the League One drop zone. Skiverton commented on the defender "He has stepped into the breach and he has been performing absolutely outstandingly and for me he has been one of our most consistent players this season. Even when we went through the bad times he was still putting in great performances. That's why I made him vice captain so he matured a little bit. He is even doing a lot more around the club and he is starting to grow into one the leader roles." Peltier who earned the nickname "Pelts" at Huish Park commented on his move to Yorkshire "I think that Huddersfield are one of the most ambitious clubs around at the moment. The Club has the fanbase, the Stadium, the facilities and are bringing the right players in - I believe it could be a big year for Huddersfield. "Obviously I played with Danny Schofield at Yeovil last season and he never had a bad word to say about his time at Huddersfield. I also know Jon Worthington from his time on loan at Yeovil and he said that Huddersfield was a good club." Peltier joins Anthony Kay, Peter Clarke and Robbie Simpson in joining the ranks at Town, and he is another player manager Lee Clark knows from his Norwich City days. - Robo set to sign for Terriers Young Watford striker Theo Robinson is set to become the Terriers fifth summer signing angering League One rivals Swindon Town in the process. The 20-year-old who has featured for Hereford United and Southend United on loan had previously looked like going to the Robins, with Swindon claiming they had a verbal agreement with both player and club over the transfer. However, with Town busy in the transfer window and with money to spend on acquisition and wages the Birmingham born player looks likely to move north to join the Terriers journey. He ended last season on loan at Southend United where he scored seven times in 20 league starts. To date the striker scores a goal approximately every four matches. Town remain linked with Bristol Rovers striker Ricky Lambert, with manager Lee Clark intent on bringing in six new faces. Should Robinson sign he would become signing number five for Town this off season. -
