Peltier signs!

Huddersfield Town today made their fourth summer signing with the capture of highly thought about Yeovil Town right back Lee Peltier. Peltier who came through the ranks at Liverpool is a naturally gifted and classy defender who is skillful, quick and can cross a ball - think Malcolm Brown mould!

The 22-year-old has signed on a three year deal and will most certainly fill the void left by Andy Holdsworth decision not to sign a new contract. The fee was not disclosed. Last season the Yeovil Town boss was so pleased with Peltier that he gave him the vice captain's role.

Terry Skiverton hailed his right back who impressed and helped save the Glovers from the League One drop zone. Skiverton commented on the defender "He has stepped into the breach and he has been performing absolutely outstandingly and for me he has been one of our most consistent players this season. Even when we went through the bad times he was still putting in great performances. That's why I made him vice captain so he matured a little bit. He is even doing a lot more around the club and he is starting to grow into one the leader roles."

Peltier who earned the nickname "Pelts" at Huish Park commented on his move to Yorkshire "I think that Huddersfield are one of the most ambitious clubs around at the moment. The Club has the fanbase, the Stadium, the facilities and are bringing the right players in - I believe it could be a big year for Huddersfield.

"Obviously I played with Danny Schofield at Yeovil last season and he never had a bad word to say about his time at Huddersfield. I also know Jon Worthington from his time on loan at Yeovil and he said that Huddersfield was a good club."

Peltier joins Anthony Kay, Peter Clarke and Robbie Simpson in joining the ranks at Town, and he is another player manager Lee Clark knows from his Norwich City days.

Collins sign's extension

Michael Collins signs a long term contract extension and will remain a Terrier until the summer of 2012. Collins had a successful season last term after the termination of Stan Ternent's management reign at the Galpharm Stadium. The 23-year-old was only too pleased to sign the extension.

Both first team manager Lee Clark and CEO Nigel Clibbens are delighted with the contract extension. It's an amazing turn around for the Irish Under 21 midfielder who was rumoured to be on his way out at Christmas should Ternent have remained in the Terriers management seat.

Clark captures third summer signing

Lee Clark today made his third off season signing by capturing Coventry City striker Robbie Simpson on a three-year deal. The Terriers will pay in the region of £300,000 for the 24-year-old, but the deal is subject to a medical. Town manager Clark has said he is delighted with the capture of Simpson who previously played for Cambridge United.

His goalscoring record has not been the best for Coventry City, although it is widely acknowledged he has been played out of position at the Ricoh Arena and whilst at Cambridge where he was played down the middle, he scored plenty of goals.

Clark captures Clarke!

Huddersfield Town have today made their second off-season capture with that of central defender Peter Clarke. Southport born Clarke is out of contract at Southend United where he has established himself as a technically able defender and was so impressive last season that he won the player of the season award at Roots Hall recently - like Anthony Kay the other summer signing.

Clarke is a former England Under 21 captain and a former Everton player where he featured in the Premier League and he is vastly experienced having featured for Blackpool as well as Southend United. He is another potential candidate for the captain's armband having captain some of the sides he has played with and he will offer excellent defensive options for manager Lee Clark as well as give excellent competition.

In all he has started 246 league matches scoring 25 goals. Last season he featured in 43 league matches 5 FA Cup matches and 1 league cup match. Scoring five goals, picking up 5 yellow cards and one red. He featured in both Town v Southend fixtures last season.

Although disappointed his former boss Steve Tilson understands why his number 5 has chosen to move back to his native roots, and not choose a new contract with Southend or a move to Charlton. Scunthorpe United were also rumoured to be interested in the big tough tackling defender. Tilson said "Peter will be a hard act to follow but hopefully we will get something tied up shortly with somebody else.

He joins on a free transfer on a three-year deal with the 27-year-old advising the official website that joining the Terriers was an "easy decision". The medical and formalities will happen soon.

Huddersfield Town will be one of the 35 seeded teams for the first round of the draw of the Carling Cup (League Cup) which is to be made next Tuesday (June 16th) morning at 09:30. That is a day before the League One fixtures are released.

Board Changes At Terriers

Two Town Directors have stepped down from the Board as new Chairman Dean Hoyle looks to restructure the boardroom at the Galpharm Stadium. Those leaving are Roger Armitage and Ralph Rimmer. Rimmer also is stepping down from the Huddersfield Giants board as well, he will however remain as managing director of Kirklees Stadium Development Limited.

Both joined the Terriers Board following Administration and have been involved at Director-level with the League One club for six years. With the duo leaving the Town board now sits at four, with Hoyle prefering smaller more manageable board. Hoyle the majority shareholder with 70%, Ken Davy (the remaining 30%) Nigel Clibbens (CEO) and Ann Hough (Club Secretary). Hoyle could also bring in his own appointments, with a couple rumoured to be about to join.

The Chairman thanked Armitage and Rimmer for their endeavours with the club, some of which were very dark times for the club.

The Night £12,000 was raised by Town fans in walk to Blackburn!

As Chairman Dean Hoyle and Director of Business Development Sean Jarvis get ready to cycle to the Terriers first away match of the season we thought it might be interesting to recall when Town fans walked to Blackburn for the opening match of the 1983/1984.

Around 150 Town fans gathered at Leeds Road ready to embark on the 40 mile journey over the hills over Halifax way on a journey that would lead them into Lancashire for the Football League Division Two match. Led by then Town Commercial Executive and former Terriers bulldozing forward Steve Kingdon the supporters began their walk to Ewood Park at 22:00 on the Friday evening.

Their aim to be there prior to the season's big kick off against Blackburn Rovers. Their plan was to raise £12,000 to build a new disabled enclosure at Leeds Road.

A T-shirt was given to all supporters completing the trip prior to leaving Leeds Road proudly displaying the feat, name and title of the event - "I walked 40 miles for Town".

The £12,000 required was duly raised and this is perhaps the last event the club as undertaken prior to the Hoyle/Jarvis bike ride.

Hoyle and Jarvis would like to raise £50,000 and more details and how to donate can be found here. Fans wanting to join the Chairman and Director of Business Development are more than welcome - get in touch with them.

If you took part in the walk to Blackburn Rovers get in touch let us know your memories - town@thisisthebarmyarmy.co.uk.

Two more players linked to Terriers move!

Tonight Huddersfield Town is been linked with another two players. The first is exciting Stockport County winger Dominic Blizzard (24) who is out of contract. The second is Sheffield United striker Billy Sharp. Sharp (23) has struggled to hold down a regular place with Kevin Blackwell's side and could feature in a move away from the Blades this summer.

Southend press also seem certain that there central defender will be moving north to the Galpharm Stadium. As we reported yesterday Peter Clarke's could be about to swap the dark blue of United for a blue and white striped True Blue shirt of Huddersfield. Sources in the South claim Clarke's arrival in West Yorkshire is imminent.

Southend would like Clarke to stay at Roots Hall and Charlton Athletic have been keen to sign the player, but the defender looks set to move back north by becoming the latest member of the True Blue squad for next season's successful evolution.

Passionate Hoyle in address to Town fans!

Today marked the beginning of a new era for Huddersfield Town Football Club - something that this club as heard many times before, but this time it is different. Different because the man in charge is successful businessman Dean Hoyle, different because he is a Town fan and different because he loves the club like everyone else connected to it does.

And different because Dean Hoyle who runs the successful Card Factory business which he and his wife built from nothing, believes in blue & white.

Hoyle who today took over the Chairman's role of the football club from Ken Davy spoke passionately to The Huddersfield Examiner about his aims and goals for the club accepting that he will have to bankroll the club in order to achieve his first goal - promotion to the Championship. That is the key to the new Chairman's quest to make the club profitable and more sustainable and he's desperate to bring higher league football to Huddersfield.

Although his Card Factory business is running very profitably and it continues to go from strength to strength and he wishes to use his business model and principal to the Town club, he knows that the club will operate with losses for a number of years to come. But Hoyle is ambitious, Hoyle has clear goals and plans and he is happy to accept this. He is also looking at reshaping the Town board.

Hoyle admits even himself that although he officially takes over today from Davy (who will keep a minority 30% shareholding and a seat on Town's board) he has been running the club since Andrew Watson and Stan Ternent departed the Galpharm Stadium in November last year.

Hoyle told the Examiner:

"Performances on the pitch cannot be guaranteed, no matter how much you spend or how hard you work. In terms of financing the club, I knew money would need to be invested after I bought into it.

After taking into account all the club's running costs, the only way to balance the books, even with an average crowd of 11,000 (which Town could expect next season), would be to have a wage bill of around £1m, but then it would be very hard to assemble a squad capable of winning promotion.

For a club like this to make a profit, the key factors are winning promotion, cup runs and transfers. Without those, even breaking even while building a team and moving forward is almost impossible.

This year the wage bill is in excess of £3.2m, and therefore I anticipate a significant loss, and that is before taking account of the costs of changing the manager and coaching staff or kick-starting a new era.

But all that is budgeted for and it is part of the personal investment I am willing to make to take the club forward.

By reaching the Championship, crowds should realistically increase to 15,000 or more, and the losses will be reduced provided wages are kept at a sensible level, making the financial model much more sustainable.

My aim is to build on what is already in place and develop a successful, sustainable and financially viable club that we can take pride in.

That means being strong both on and off the pitch, taking a long-term view, recruiting and developing the best players we can, with quality people throughout the club and all in an atmosphere that brings out the best."

So this very much is a journey for Dean Hoyle, for the club, for manager Lee Clark and his impressive background team and for the supporters.

Hoyle is very excited about running the club he has supported for over 30 years and thanks the Town fans for their continued backing of the club. Without the supporters there is no club, Hoyle understands and appreciates this, but without Dean Hoyle, there might just not be a Huddersfield Town Football Club - supporters need to realise this when times get difficult and with Town that will happen, it just would not be Town without that!

With Hoyle subsidising the football club out of his own pocket, attempting to build a successful off field team and giving Lee Clark the funds to build one on it and the football club needs the board, the management team, the players and the supporters all behind one common goal as Hoyle says "We rise and fall together".

Dean bought into the League One club in April 2008 click here to read what he said to this website following his arrival on the board of the club.

New signing wants captain's band!

New midfielder Anthony Kay is aiming to become Lee Clark's captain for next season. Kay who relished the opportunity at Tranmere Rovers where he has left to join Town having become their Player of the Season for last term says becoming Prenton Park captain improved his game.

Such is the quality of Kay, Lee Clark who has always said that this summer's arrivals would be key, could make his first signing of the off season very key by giving him the chance of becoming Huddersfield Town Captain. There would be echoes that suggest that such is Kay critical to Clark's plans that he is about to build next season's team around his first summer capture.

Town beat several Championship and League One clubs to the signature of Kay, with his former manager Ronnie Moore admitting that no other side in the division could match the Terriers offer, know that should Clark want Kay to be captain he would "love to do it".

Clark has not had a settled captain since arriving at the club in December 2008, with club captain Chris Lucketti told he can find a new club having featured very little during Clark's management at the Galpharm Stadium.

Kay who shares the ambition of the chairman, the manager and the supporters could be an ideal candidate for captaincy given his drive and desire and he states "There is no reason why we can't achieve promotion next season".

-

Season Tickets Pass 10,000

On the day Dean Hoyle becomes the new chairman of Huddersfield Town and the final day for Early Bird Sales, season tickets have passed the 10,000 mark. Hoyle pledged that if supporters bought the seat he would buy the players, well the supporters are doing their bit so this off season could be interesting.

-

Striker Graham on his way?

Long term Terriers target Danny Graham could be on his way to the Galpharm Stadium. Graham had today turned down the offer of a new contract. Lee Clark has been interested in the 23 year old hitman who was subject to a £250,000 transfer bid from Huddersfield in the January transfer window.

Although out of contract, Town if they capture Graham would have to pay compensation based on the players age.

-

Terriers linked to two defenders

Huddersfield Town are been linked with a move for Southend United central defender Peter Clarke (27) and Oldham Athletic right back Neal Eardley (20). Eardley a Welsh International would command a fee to move, whilst Clarke is out of contract at the end of June and would be available on a free transfer.
