Reserves beaten by powerful visitors

Tonight's top of the table clash ended in poor fashion for Paul Stephenson's side as a strong and powerful visiting United side beat Town convincingly and deservedly 3-0 in front of 1,284 (including 154 visitors) at the Galpharm Stadium.

The United side on paper was a strong one full of experience and that how it proved to be with Andy Robinson and David Prutton commanding midfield, Lubo Michalik strong at the back and England under-19 striker Tom Elliott a handful up front. The stark factor is United could have won this by many more goals as the Terriers failed to really test David Lucas in the visitors goal.

Simon Eastwood during the match had to make three one-on-one saves to prevent an even bigger embarrassing scoreline who following losing for the first time this season have lost top spot to United who have now recorded nine wins on the bounce.

The night started badly for Town when Elliott headed the visitors into a 7th minute lead and moments before the United second Eastwood had to make a smart one-on-one save from American striker Mike Grella. An individual piece of Andy Robinson magic doubled the visitors lead on 34 minutes - a stunning 30 yard strike following a Town error in the centre.

And the American Grella again found Eastwood in fine form with the Town custodian preventing the United striker when on a one-on-one situation moments before the end of the first period.

Town improved in the second half as Stephenson changed for the ineffective 4-4-1-1 formation to a more traditional 4-4-2 moving Lionel Ainsworth up front, but for all their effort in the second half, Town just never really created enough clear cut chances to secure a shot on target.

The Terriers best effort of the night came on 79 minutes when Aiden Chippendale forced a fine save from the United keeper. But within two minutes the visiting supporters were cheering once again as the nail in the Town coffin was sealed. The impressive Elliott stroked the ball past Eastwood again unchallenged after a neat pass from Andy Robinson.

A very disappointing evening for the second string who will now have to hope that results conspire against their West Yorkshire neighbours, and the Terriers can find the impetus to claw back the two points adrift from the top team in the division they this evening find themselves at.

Town side: Eastwood, Hunt (76, Watson), Werling, Holdsworth, Ridehalgh, Lucketti [c], Ainsworth (71, Atkinson), Berrett, Heagney, Craney, Chippendale (84, Nightingale). Unused subs: Pickering, Collinson.

United serious about tonight's reserve clash

Tonight's top versus second clash at the Galpharm Stadium could go a long way to deciding who wins the totesport.com League East Division title this season. With Town unbeaten and a point clear of United the visitors this evening (kick-off at 19:00 bst) the visitors are taking this match seriously by naming a very strong line up to face Town's mix of first year academy players and experience.

United name two players in their starting reserve line-up who were on the bench for last night's first team League One Fixture at Leyton Orient amongst a host of Whites players who have first team experience. The visitors are coming with a pedigree of eight straight victories. Town are unbeaten, so one of those statistics will go this evening.

The side for the visitors (I wonder if they will be wanting payment for a hotel stay?!!) is Lucas, Richardson, Lees, Michalik, White, Prutton, Johnson, Hughes, Robinson, Grella, Elliott. Subs (from) Jones, Falkingham, Milne, Darville, Hatfield and Whitwell.

There is no news of Town's line up for this evening's clash just now, but one name missing will be that of trialist Chris Fagan who has joined Hamilton in the SPL. He had scored in two reserve outings two goals, including a stunning debut hat-trick at Hartlepool United.

The match kicks-off at 19:00 bst and is free for season ticket holders. Adults are £3.50, concessions at £1. Segregation will be in place for the contest due to the number of supporters expected to be backing both sides.

Only the Direct Golf UK Stand will be in operation for this match. Town supporters will enter via the North End of the stand (turnstiles 1-4) and the visiting supporters through the South End (turnstiles 13-16).

Easter kick off times

Just to remind all Town fans that we have two fixtures over the Easter Bank Holiday weekend. Good Friday we travel to Glandford Park to face promotion chasing Scunthorpe United, who will be looking to bounce back having lost 3-2 to League Two side Luton Town at Wembley on Sunday in the JPT Final.

Two days later the Terriers entertain Carlisle United at the Galpharm Stadium in the penultimate home fixture of the season. Lee Clark's side will be looking for three points in a revenge mission over the Cumbrians. Carlisle defeated Town 3-0 on Boxing Day to upset a huge travelling blue and white army from West Yorkshire.

The match at Scunthorpe which was originally planned for Saturday but brought forward at the request of Scunthorpe kicks-off at 19:45 whilst on Easter Monday the match is a 15:00 kick-off.

There have been showings that the match with the Iron is a 19:30 kick-off and an evening kick-off for the Easter Monday fixture, these are incorrect.

Tickets are still available for the match on Friday.

If you are not a season ticket holder, the match on Monday is available at a discount pricing. So why not enjoy a Easter treat at the Galph?

Purchase a Lower Tier Fantastic Media Stand ticket for just £4 today - saving £16 on the match day ticket price. Tomorrow the price doubles to £8, Friday to £16 and from Saturday it reverts back to the £20 mark.

Supporters can contact the Galpharm Box Office on 08704 44 45 52 for further ticket information and purchase.

Decent reserve team crowd expected!

Huddersfield Town officials are expecting a decent five figure crowd for this evening's reserve team fixture with second placed Leeds United at the Galpharm Stadium (19:00 kick-off). The Terriers top the totesport.com League East Division a point clear of the visitors to Town this evening.

Season ticket holders are reminded on presentation of their season ticket booklet they are admitted free of charge and many are expected to see if Town can defeat United for the fourth time this season. The first team performed the 'double' over their West Yorkshire rivals, the reserves won 3-2 on the opening evening of second string fixtures on United soil.

Due to the bumper crowd expected the club is using segregation in the Direct Golf UK Stand this evening with many expected to be following the Whites.

Paul Stephenson's side can take a massive step towards the title with a further victory this evening. They currently have 31 points from 13 matches played including some 9 victories and 4 draws. Winning the reserve team title would be a first since the 2004/2005 season that Town have performed this feat.

Should non-season ticket holders wish to attend this evening it costs £3.50 for adults and concessions at £1. The club is advising supporters to park in the St Andrews Road car park for the fixture and not block the cinema access as the Town Avenue Car Park is expected to be highly demanded this evening.

Premier League head-hunting for Smithies

Terriers goalkeeper Alex Smithies who has recently just signed a new long term contract at the Galpharm Stadium is been tracked by a number of Premier League Clubs. Everton and Tottenham Hotspur are both interested in the goalkeeper who has represented England at Under-19 level.

Town are believed to be commanding a big fee for their Academy product with some rumours it is to be in the £4 million mark. Everton representatives were at the Galpharm Stadium to track the progress of the Huddersfield born 'keeper who could do nothing to prevent a 1-0 home loss at the hands of Southend United.

According to website rumours David Moyes the Everton manager is about to put a offer to Town for Smithes this summer.

Blackburn are also keeping tabs on the 6ft 1inch 'keeper who has featured 26 times for the Town first team since gaining the keepers jersey from Matthew Glennon in December.

-

No Tehoue this season

Town have conceded that there is no chance transfer deadline day signing Jonathan Tehoue will feature for the Terriers, but Lee Clark is hopeful of reassessing the situation in the summer. Tehoue is in dispute with his former club Turkey based Konyaspor who is demanding a fee for the French born striker.

Town signed Tehoue believing he was a free agent, but on attempting to obtain his international papers from the Turkish FA found the Turkish league side unhappy to release the papers without a transfer fee. The matter is now with FIFA to sort out.

-

Unsworth calls time

David Unsworth who last week was released from his Terriers contract as announced his retirement from playing the game. Unsworth is hoping to feature in coaching having completed some of his coaching badges.

The former England defender played just 4 times for Town the club he joined last summer.

-

Charlton is a manager!

Popular former YTS defender at Town Simon Charlton as become a manager for the first time. Left back Charlton as become manager of Ridgeons League Premier Division side Mildenhall Town.

A fans favourite during his time at Leeds Road, he played over a hundred matches for his home town club before a £250,000 move to the top flight with Southampton in June 1993.

Other clubs he featured for was Birmingham City, Bolton Wanderers, Norwich City and Oldham Athletic. In total the popular left back featured in 476 league starts scoring 6 goals.

-

Keigan's future in doubt

Scottish striker Keigan Parker's immediate future appears to be in doubt, with the Town loanee apparently not cutting the mustard at the Victoria Park and Hartlepool United fans hoping that manager Chris Turner does not sign him permanently. Parker who is on loan until the end of the season at United, is yet to score for his loan club and since his summer move from Blackpool has scored only twice for the Terriers.

Although he is full of energy, committed and works hard Parker this season has struggled to find goals, but as the striker admits, he does not know what his future at Town holds but he has one year left on his Terriers contract should not a suitable deal come forward for him - should Town want him to leave.

Clark's first 21 matches in charge of Terriers analysis

Yesterday's home defeat at the hands of Southend United was manager Lee Clark's 21st match in charge of Huddersfield Town since he took over the management of the first team from Gerry Murphy following the 1-0 victory against Southend at Roots Hall in mid December 2008.

Ironically for the Terriers under Clark they have never won the opening match of a new month.

In January they drew 1-1 with Oldham (H), February it was the same scoreline at the Galpharm Stadium against Hartlepool United. Colchester United were the visitors to Huddersfield for the opening match of March which ended 2-2 and April ended with a disappointing defeat at the hands of Southend United - once again at home.

63 points have been there for the taking for Clark's Huddersfield Town as well as the January transfer window and to be honest he has had a mixed bag of results with both on the field results and his transfer signings. The Terriers have secured seven victories under Clark (33.33%), drawn seven (33.33%) and lost seven (33.33%). The away form until the last two away matches had been poor with Clark not tasting victory until his eighth and ninth away matches.

Town have therefore won 28 points from a possible return of 63 - resulting in 33.33% of points available have been won at an average of 1.33 points won per match.

Town have also found scoring goals under Clark not an issue having failed to score only three times (losing all) and have scored 25 goals (average of 1.19). They have however only kept four clean sheets (winning all) and conceded at times heavily. 26 goals (average of 1.23) have been shipped by Clark's Huddersfield Town including 4 at Leicester City, three at Carlisle United, Crewe and Tranmere and two against Colchester, Millwall and Cheltenham.

With the season ticket package out now and Town trying to retain as many of the current 16,000 season ticket holders as possible, yesterday's poor poor showing will do very little get retain the 2008/2009 'new' supporters. Perhaps Dean Hoyle's statement of "you buy the seat, we buy the players" and Lee Clark's "I'll get you out of that seat" will do very little to engage weary Town supporters to buy them, considering in recent home matches there as been very little get out of the seat for, very little from Clark's signings.

Indeed, yesterday supporters got out of their seats to leave early yet again, and those few dedicated souls that did attempt to rouse an unexcited and disappointed crowd, were ejected by stubborn stewarding, which again fails to ignite the desire to inject time, money and patience into the club to have a Saturday evening and indeed the rest of the weekend spoiled by a 'no show' from players of Huddersfield Town.

It's been at best a mixed bag from Clark, and although some of the football as been good, the messages stirring and the belief of the management team passionate, not enough in recent weeks as been shown to suggest that only a few weeks ago assistant manager Terry McDermott was pinpointing Town to the play-offs due to the favourable run-in.

Town have two remaining home matches against relegation threatened sides - Carlisle United (Easter Monday) and Brighton Hove Albion (April 25th), and three away matches to complete the set of 46 league matches - they travel on Good Friday for a evening match with play off chasing Scunthorpe United (who remember should have been in turmoil this season considering Town poached their best two players!), Walsall and relegation threatened Leyton Orient on the final afternoon of the 2008/2009 season.

Whatever happens between now and August, it needs to be full, frank and committed. Clark needs a decent end of the season, Town need to sell at least 8,000 to 10,000 season tickets and Clark needs to be wise, very wise in the transfer market and buy very well. The Terriers also need to get rid of many on the current playing staff, and almost rebuild like they did last summer under the disastrous tenure of Stan Ternent.

The Centenary Season for Town promised so so much, but once again as with Huddersfield Town of old it as offered very little and expectation as failed to be matched by reality. Clark and his management team talk of promotion next season, ambitious incoming Chairman Dean Hoyle is also pinpointing this and hoping the lure of a 'new' Huddersfield Town will help sway expectant Town fans to give their faith next season.

One thing is for sure, Huddersfield Town is the brand of football we all know, we all love and without the supporters the club is nothing. So perhaps you are thinking long and hard about your season ticket purchase for next season, given the economic climate that is understandable. But add to the equation - "what if", "what if only next season could be the one?" could you afford not to be there for the journey?

Huddersfield Town is on the journey and the club and you the supporter will be with them forever "together, forever" so think long and hard about the decision to purchase a season ticket for next season.

Season Ticket Prices 2009/2010 Revealed!

This morning the club have revealed details of the season ticket prices for next season. In the newly designated Family Stand - adults can purchase (Early Bird) a season ticket in the Lower Tier of the Fantastic Media Family Stand for just £99!

For next season the club will be moving back to category match day ticket prices and these prices will only be revealed once the fixture list is confirmed. Season ticket holders will also have an option of taking a seat in The Pink Link Stand on a number of occasions next season, dependant on the fixture. The club has said they will issue more details on release of the football fixtures.

Plus if you complete your email address on your application form, you will gain the chance to win back a full refund on your season ticket price.

Chairman-Elect who will become Chairman from next season Dean Hoyle has put down the marker for Town fans. "You buy your season ticket, we will buy the players". Hoyle wants everyone connected with Huddersfield Town to join next season despite the obvious increase on the special Centenary Offer last season. "Join us and be part of the new era" is another catchphrase the club is using.

Hoyle is embracing a new culture, a new era, a new start and we are now "on the journey" and being 'on the journey' means 'together ... forever!' Hoyle is desperate, as a fan, as Chairman to turn the potential of Huddersfield Town into reality. Town are just at the beginning of a journey, but nonetheless Town are "on the journey" and it promises under an ambitious Chairman to be an exciting and prosperous one.

Dean Hoyle, wants the town and the supporters to back their football club, it is at the end of the day the supporters that make the difference. Hoyle is striving to once again make a real difference to Huddersfield Town AFC and to make "Huddersfield, the best team in the land", so as the Chairman from next season says "...join us and be part of the new era!"

GET BEHIND THE TOWN EVOLUTION!

Saturday afternoon's League One fixture will again be a fixture Terriers supporters can use the South Stand.

The continuing success of Town fans enjoying the end designated for away fans as resulted in the club continuing this strategy. Town fans were first allowed to be seated in the Pink Link on October 28th. However Town fans have been asked to abide by the rules of the stadium or risk losing this incentive.

For Season Ticket holders:

You will need to present the match voucher for this match (number 21) at the turnstile and for adults pay £1, for concessions 50p. This is a change to the previous arrangement where supporters wishing to transfer was required to attend the ticket office for a ticket change.

As with the arrangements for the previous two matches where Town fans have had access to the South Stand, supporters simply just turn up on match day and subject to availability you will be given access. It was busy for the last South Stand match, so ensure you arrive in plenty of time.

For Non Season Ticker holders, normal admission prices apply:

Adults - £20
Seniors - £12
Students - £10
Under 16s - £10

Chairman-Elect Dean Hoyle believes the Town support can be the Terriers 12th man, so continue to support the South Stand initiative and get behind the Town evolution!

Trialist joins SPL side

Hamilton boss Billy Reid has signed Chris Fagan on a short term deal. Fagan was on trial at Huddersfield Town scoring four times in two reserve fixtures. The 19-year-old former Manchester United striker will now feature for the Accies at New Douglas Park until the end of the season.

-

Unsworth leaves club!

Veteran defender David Unsworth has completed the necessary paperwork this morning which sees him leave the Galpharm Stadium having only featured four times for the Terriers. Unsworth who has not had a look in since the change of management team was brought to the club after a successful trial by previous manager Stan Ternent.

The former England defender has struggled to force his way into the first team under Lee Clark, and although he signed a two-year deal in August last year, the player and the club have come to an agreement which has seen the 34 year old have his contract paid up.

When Unsworth signed he was Ternent's seventh summer signing, and came following his release from Championship club Burnley. Following the loan signing of Liverpool defender Martin Kelly, the writing on the wall was effectively there for Unsworth who has seen the form of Robbie Williams and Joe Skarz (himself now out on loan) keep him out of first team action.

It will be the first of many to leave the club in the forthcoming months as Clark prepares his thoughts and side for next season. The manager as indicated that all of the players bar Lee Novak could leave the club in the summer - many of whom were Ternent's signings last season.

We thought last summer was a squad rebuilding exercise, this summer will be no different but lets hope the new management team build on quality rather than quantity. Clark could have money to spend should 'keeper Alex Smithes, who produced three excellent saves last night moves in a multi-million pound deal.
