Terriers reserves dish out another City bashing!

Paul Stephenson saw his mix of youth and experience hand out a derby hammering to Bradford City in the totesports.com League East fixture this afternoon at Coral Windows Stadium to complete a simple 'double' over city at second string level.

A stunning hat-trick from Keigan Parker and one from Joe Skarz gave the Terriers the points and a goal from former Terrier Chris Brandon could not prevent Stephenson's side recording an impressive victory in a match dominated by the Terriers, who were 3-0 up at half time and saw returning 'keeper Simon Eastwood save a first half spot kick.

David Unsworth was captain for the match which kicked-off at 14:00 hours.

From the 11 reserve team fixtures this season, Town have won 7 (5 at home), drawn 3 (all away) and remain unbeaten. The big victory over the Bantams will help maintain Town's championship credentials following a run of 3 draws in their last four matches prior to the victory this afternoon at Valley Parade.

Large travelling army to Crewe!

With around 1,400 tickets sold Lee Clark's Barmy-Army will be out in force at The Alexandra Stadium and should make the 'away' The Blue Bell BMW stand rock this afternoon. Clark will be aiming for his first away win as Town manager.

This match is all ticket for travelling Huddersfield supporters and none are available this afternoon, so the message is a simple one: No ticket, please do not travel.

Town need to continue where they left off last week and continue the push for a play-off place.

-

Matt Jenson on trial

The Terriers have taken striker Matt Jenson on trial and saw him score the opening goal in the reserves midweek 2-2 draw at Rotherham - Tom Denton with the second.

Meanwhile young striker Daniel Broadbent has become the second young Town striker on loan at Gateshead. He joins deadline day signing Lee Novack up in the North East on loan.

-

'Keeper Smithes offered good deal to stay

After his recent impressive performances the Town club are pulling out all the stops to try to retain Alex Smithes who is the target for a host of top clubs both in England's Premier League and in the Scottish Premier League. Smithes a graduate of the Academy at Huddersfield is only 18 but as represented England at Under 19 level and is receiving national accolade for his performances which belittle his age.

Lee Clark has made no secret of his desire to keep Smithes at the Galpharm Stadium but he does know the young Huddersfield born stopper is destined for higher things, but is hoping that will be with the Terriers.

The club has met again with Smithes, his agent and his family to offer him an improved deal. Town have improved now twice on terms for the 18 year old, and the latest terms are what the Town boss calls "Premiership contract for a 18 year old!".

He does have a bright future in the game, and since been brought into the starting 11 under caretaker boss Gerry Murphy and he has kept his starting place ahead of Matthew Glennon since Lee Clark and his management team have taken on the helm. Smithes has impressed recently with two fine clean sheets against two of the top sides in League One and Clark will be hoping Smithes increasing confidence can continue.

-

Goodwin targets international recall

Battling and combative midfielder Jim Goodwin has been a reformed player since the removal of Stan Ternent has manager of Huddersfield Town and has impressed since returning to his more natural midfield position, where alongside Michael Collins has put in a number of decent performances of late.

Goodwin a Republic of Ireland International (one cap in 2002) is hoping his recent league form with the Terriers can help push in back into the thoughts of his International management, but knows that if Town could gain promotion to a higher level and if he can continue with his form that would help his prospects.

-

Glennon set for op!

Former first team goalkeeper Matthew Glennon is to undergo a operation to sort out a long standing knee problem and the back up 'keeper displaced by Alex Smithes excellent form is expected to be out for the season. Lee Clark has decided to make this move for Glennon to have the hospital operation, effectively ended the former number one's season as Clark has Simon Eastwood returning from his loan spell at non-league Woking.

Eastwood will provide the cover for first team custodian Smithes when he returns to the Galpharm on February 26th.

Jutkiewicz in Town!

Huddersfield Town has today officially announced the loan capture of Everton striker Lukas Jutkiewicz. The 19 year old is available for selection in tomorrow's West Yorkshire derby at the Galpharm Stadium and the Southampton born former Swindon Town player will wear the number 36 shirt.

After a few days of discussions Town eventually registered the 19 year old and will be an added boost to the attacking options for manager Lee Clark who has had Jutkiewicz training at the club for the past week, a move which led to the Terriers boss prasing David Moyes at Everton.

An undisclosed fee took the impressive striker from Swindon to Everton and the former Southampton youth product as impressed since, and will use this loan move to further develop his talents.

Jonathan Tehoue who was signed until the end of the season on deadline day still is not available for selection as the Turkish FA are yet to release the International clearance. The club continues to chase this up via the English FA.

Standing back at football in English football stadiums? Sign the petition!

When the Taylor report was commissioned and it's findings delivered to the Football League regarding standing areas at football grounds. One recommendation was as follows:

"The report stated that standing accommodation is not intrinsically unsafe, but the government decided that no standing accommodation was to be allowed at all".

With the massive investment of football stadia in both safety and facilities, I petition the Government to allow limited standing at football stadia.

It would make football more attractive to low earners who were priced out of attending all seater games and raise the atmosphere at football matches.

I propose this to enhance football as a game and not to under estimate the tragedy, misery and grief suffered by those connected to the Hillsborough disaster, and that we all felt as a Nation together.

It's nearly 20 years on since that horrific day and the stadia are now ready to safely introduce smaller, limited terracing.

To sign the petition click here.

Development coach appointed!

New Academy boss Graham Mitchell has today welcomed Paul Stephenson to the Galpharm Stadium as the club's new Development Coach. The role is a new one introduced by the new management team headed by Lee Clark.

Stephenson's remit is quite simple and the former first team coach of Norwich City will be eager to succeed. He is tasked with ensuring that the club's young professionals continue to develop in the senior squads and ensuring that Acadmey products and fast tracked into the first team. He will also manage the reserve team, something Mitchell has been doing this season.

He is yet another North-Eastern born connection to join the club's backroom staff having played for Newcastle United during his playing career and the 41 year old was born in Wallsend and is called by Clark an "enthusiastic coach".

Stephenson told the official HTAFC.com website that he "jumped at the chance" to join Huddersfield Town, and he will now ensure that young professionals at the club are well cared for even when they make the step up to the first team. This is a void that outgoing Director of Football Development Gerry Murphy so rightfully identified and will be happy to see the void filled.

Gerry retires

He's been a man synonymous for many years of producing talent from a successful youth line, but yesterday Irishman Gerry Murphy waved goodbye to the club he loves, as Director of Football Development announced his retirement.

Murphy joined the club back during the Leeds Road days in 1988, and in a caretaker capacity captained the first team ship very well on three separate occasions. The talented coach has the honour of winning the first ever Football League Contribution to Football Award (2006) and last year Murphy was given the honour of a testimonial.

He turned full time with the Terriers in 1994 under the Neil Warnock days and in the last 10 years Murphy has nurtured young talent that as gone on to represent their national sides. He moved up to become Director of Football Development in April 2007 following the appointment of Andy Ritchie has first team manager.

Graham Mitchell will become the club's new head of Academy. Mitchell who has a fine history with the club during his playing days assisted Murphy before the arrival of Lee Clark has manager. Such is the impact the Academy products have had on Town squads during the last 5 or 6 years that the first team as been littered with 'home grown' talent.

Indeed of the 2004 promotion winning squad under Peter Jackson half of the first team was produced by the Academy production line. The Academy something the club is justifiably proud of have Murphy's legacy around it for a very long time. An holder of the Academy Directors Licence and the UEFA Advanced Coaching Licence he was pinnacle in the setup of the Academy in 1999. In 10 years the Academy as produced 23 youth products that have featured at some point in the first team squad.

Murphy has done a fantastic job at Huddersfield Town, some of it through bad times and indeed the dark days of Administration. But through it all, this passionate Dubliner ensured that the Academy was held in the highest order by the board and ensure that through the strife the Academy was retained.

Indeed Chairman-Elect Dean Hoyle and first team manager Lee Clark are massive advocators of the Academy system, Clark himself a product of the Newcastle United Academy. For Town he is a living legend and long may the name 'Gerry Murphy' be remembered. In March 2006 he was rightfully honoured with the League's prestigious "Contribution to Football" award a fitting tribute and acknowledgement of the years Murphy has spent with the young talent at Huddersfield Town.

Club chairman Ken Davy pinpoint the success Murphy's three spells in caretaker charge of the Terriers paying tribute to the man who recorded 8 victories in 17 matches saying "I think the records will show that during three spells as manager he has probably one of the finest records ever achieved by a manager of Huddersfield Town".

8 victories in 17 matches is a stunning winning ratio enjoying success over both West Yorkshire rivals during his time in charge of the first team. He has a 47% winning record, and with only three defeats from those 17 matches, it is a sensational record. Two of those defeats came before Lee Clark was appointed manager. Earlier this season he spearheaded a fine 2-1 victory at Elland Road and enjoyed a 1-0 Galpharm victory against the Whites last season.

Murphy took charge of first team matters (only league, FA Cup and League Cup matches shown):

Bristol Rovers (Away) | League One | Saturday February 07 2009 - POSTPONED

Saturday's match against Bristol Rovers at the Memorial Ground as been postponed following a local referee inspecting the pitch. Heavy snowfall as meant that the pitch is unplayable, and the safety of supporters would have been in doubt given the snow around the ground and inside the stands.

The Terriers squad had not set off as the inspection was brought forward an hour to prevent Lee Clark's side having to set off for the West Country.

A date for rearrangement is yet to be decided.

The postponement means that Town's next fixture is the home one with our West Yorkshire rivals from Elland Road on Valentines Day. Please remember the tickets are very limited for this fixture.

Bristol Rovers (Away) | League One | Saturday February 07 2009

Pitch inspection is due at the Memorial Ground today at 12:00 noon. So adverse is the weather at 'The Mem' Bristol Rovers will be closing it's retail outlets early today as many of their staff have been unable to arrive into work. The pitch remains with snow on it, and tomorrow's League One match against Town is unlikely to go ahead.

Indeed some of the Rovers staff have been photographed with a snowman they have created on the playing surface, therefore it is unlikely the pitch inspection due in just over 50 minutes will allow the match tomorrow to be played.

More news later.

Stadium naming rights company goes into Administration

Leeds Road based quality suit manufacturer C J Antich & Sons (sponsors of the Galpharm Stadium West Stand or the Kilner Bank Stand) have today announced they have gone into Administration. The company continues to trade as appointed Administrators hope to sell the Bradley Based concern.

The family run company founded in 1989 produced Huddersfield Town's limited edition centenary suit and were the 2007 official corporate supplier to the British Rugby League side.

Antich have been hit by rising costs and cancelled orders and have called in Begbies Traynor to advise further putting 100 jobs at risk.

Terriers still wait international clearance on new striker

Deadline day signing Frenchman Jonathan Tehoue still cannot be considered for a first team squad position by Lee Clark, because the club is still awaiting international clearance. Town who desperately need a striking boost after Tuesday night's very disappointing home draw with Hartlepool United have brought back Tom Denton from his loan spell with Woking, whilst fellow youth striker Daniel Broadbent returns to the Galpharm Stadium from Rushden & Diamonds on February 15th.

Danny Cadamateri will be out with a calf strain for up to three weeks, so Clark has seen his striking options limited. Clark is sure to use the loan window to bring in some fresh blood (if he can!) for offensive positions when it re-opens soon.

Bristol Rovers (Away) | League One | Saturday February 07 2009 - PITCH INSPECTION DUE

Heavy snowfalls throughout the South West overnight and today as put Town's match in doubt for Saturday's visit to the Memorial Ground for the latest League One match.

The Bristol club is attempting to do everything it can to keep the fixture on but the weather as put the game in the balance and there will be a pitch inspection tomorrow.

The pitch and surrounding areas are covered by snow, and the Memorial does not have under-soil heating. The weather forecast is for more adverse weather. A decision is to be made tomorrow by 12:00 noon so it is hoped that it can be a clear decision then about a postponement to prevent Lee Clark's side from setting off.

Keep checking this site for further updates.

If it does go ahead, take away the stress of travelling the long distance on Saturday by staying over night.

Killock released

Academy product Shane Killock has been released from his Huddersfield Town contract and will join up with non-league Oxford United where he is currently on loan. The 19 year old defender was out of contract at the end of the season but an agreement as been made to allow the young academy graduate to leave the Galpharm Stadium.

He is expected to sign with the Kassam Stadium club permanently.

-

Update 10:12 GMT: Hartlepool United (Home) | League One | Tuesday February 03 2009 - STILL ON!

Town's official website is stating that the match this evening is currently on the pitch is playable so will go ahead as planned. Hartlepool United visit the Galpharm Stadium for a League One match kicking off at 19:45.

The undersoil heating has been implemented during the course of the weekend and remains on but the club needs to assess the surrounding areas. So although the pitch is playable, and no pitch inspection due the club will make a decision as to the safety of the areas surrounding the stadium.

Huddersfield saw snow most of yesterday and during the evening, but the sun is shining now although remains very cold.

I personally cannot see, unless the situation improves radically how the club can allow this contest to go ahead considering the safety and well being of supporters both travelling for a home match and those travelling down from the North East.

Further updates are planned and the club is monitoring the situation before making a final decision.

As it stands at 10:12 gmt - the match is still on!

Town in double striker swoop

Lee Clark completed his transfer deadline day deals with the capture of two strikers. Powerful Frenchman Jonathan Tehoue has been given a deal until the end of the season after impressing during a trial he comes to the Galpharm unattached.

Tehoue has played in France and Turkey and is looking forward to the challenge English football will offer him. The short team deal according to Lee Clark suits both the club and the player and although far from a prolific goal scorer he comes with power and promise and with the intentions of scoring goals.

The Frenchman looks hungry on the pitch, looks like he wants the ball to make things happen, has a powerful shot on him and is extremely powerful. It is a risky signing this one by Clark, but one that could be very exciting if it comes off.

Tehoue will not be available for this evening's match (should it go ahead) as he was registered after 12:00 noon yesterday and not in time for him to be considered for match selection against Hartlepool United.

The other on loan until the end of the season is young Everton striker the exciting Lucas Jutkiewicz. The 19 year old has been on the fringes of David Moyes first team squad at Goodison Park and made one first team appearance this season.

He arrived on Merseyside from Swindon Town in the summer of 2007 and has excelled in the Everton reserves.

Hartlepool United (Home) | League One | Tuesday February 03 2009 - STILL ON!

Officials have advised that tomorrow nights League One match against North East based Hartlepool United does remain on and the club is doing everything it can to ensure the league fixture goes ahead.

A number of sporting events have fallen foul of the weather already and the Galpharm's under soil heating is doing it's best to ensure Town can enjoy a Tuesday night Winter Wonderland down at the Galph!

Town prepared the pitch following the 1-0 victory over Peterborough United on Saturday and the undersoil heating as been applied throughout the weekend. The Galpharm pitch is showing a thin covering of snow on the pitch and the road network for supporters to travel in is particularly bad in the West Yorkshire area.

Keep checking the official Town Internet site for details, this site will attempt to bring you news of any postponement as soon as we hear of any changes.

But as it stand - tomorrow evening's fixture is still on!

Terriers seal Novak signing

Lee Clark has gone back to his native North East roots to raid Gateshead for prolific non-league goal scorer Lee Noivak (20). Novak has been a scoring sensation and is regarded as "scoring for fun" during the last season. A deal as been struck with Gateshead for the Blue Square North top scorer who has been tracked by the Terriers for sometimes now and the player agreed terms at a snowy Galpharm Stadium today calling it an "easy decision".

Gateshead are currently second in the Blue Square North table just a point behind leaders Tamworth and are by far the top scorers in the division. Novak has been given a 3 and a half year deal. Clark has called the capture of one of non-league football's hottest properties as "one for the future".

Town have beaten off a number of teams to capture the young striker, who will be loaned back to Gateshead for the reminder of the season. The Terriers will also travel to the North East for a pre-season friendly next season.

The deal is expected to be worth six figures for the powerful young striker who was tracked by Stockport County, Scunthorpe United and Peterborough United. Manager Lee Clark is "delighted" with the signing of a young powerful striker. Novak has scored 17 goals this season thus far in 19 matches since joining Gateshead from Newcastle Blue Star in September.

The Novak signing would cement the current policy at the Galpharm Stadium of signing the best young talent available rather than seeking signatures of have been's. Clark matches the ambition of Dean Hoyle of reaching the top flight as soon as possible, but want to do this through playing a vibrant, attacking style of football.

Town have a number of irons currently still in the fire with 25 minutes left of the scheduled transfer window closure, although that could be extended due to the current heavy snow falls across the United Kingdom today.
