Worthington features for Yeovil

Huddersfield Town midfielder Jon Worthington featured for his loan club this afternoon - Yeovil Town. Yeovil won 1-0 at Leyton Orient in League One. Worthington was booked for a foul on 88 minutes and he has taken the number 7 shirt at Huish Park.

Russell Slade's side followed up Tuesday night's 1-0 victory over the Terriers with the same scoreline at Orient. On Tuesday it was a late goal in the first half, this afternoon it was a 95th minute strike which won the South West side all three points. That victory moves Yeovil Town a distance from the relegation zone.

thisisthebarmyarmy.co.uk would like to wish Jon all the best during his loan spell with Yeovil.

Attendance's at Galpharm Stadium break 200,000 mark!

Saturday's attendance of 14,480 (including 642 visiting with Peterborough United fans - yes the Town club were expecting more!) helped take the total attendance's at home matches this season to over 200,000.

Town still have eight league matches at home to play including the visit of West Yorkshire rivals Leeds United in two weeks time which should help to push the total attendance's this season to beyond the 300,000 mark.

202,305 is the total attendance of the 15 home matches played thus far this season with an average of 13,487. The visit of Oldham Athletic on January 3rd remains the highest attendance for a single match at 16,950, however that will be broken of the visit of the Whites on Valentine's Afternoon.

The attendance's this season following the excellent season ticket deal as ensured a massive increase on average match day attendance, with this season's total just 13,675 behind the total from last season with eight matches to play.

Total 'Home Attendance's' (23 league matches) for the previous two season:

2007-2008: 215,983
2006-2007: 243,162

GET BEHIND THE TOWN EVOLUTION!

REDUCED PRICES FOR THE FANTASTIC MEDIA STAND!

Huddersfield Town officials have revealed that 'home' supporters will be able to use part of the South Stand (The Pink Link Stand) for next Tuesday's clash with Hartlepool United. However the visit of Peterborough United this Saturday Town fans will not be able to use the South Stand due to the expected level of away support travelling north

The success of the South Stand trial which took in four league matches beginning with the October 28th visit of Yeovil Town and taking in Leyton Orient, Walsall, Hereford United and Swindon Town generated passionate support from behind the goal, however Town fans have been asked to abide by the rules of the stadium or risk losing this incentive.

The club acknowledges the support the South Stand supporters have given during the trial and only too happy to offer this again for this Tuesday's match. It will be open for season ticket and non season ticket holders.

For Season Ticket holders:

Terriers set to seal Novak signing

Lee Clark has gone back to his native North East roots to raid Gateshead for prolific non-league goal scorer Lee Noivak (20). Novak has been a scoring sensation and is regarded as "scoring for fun" during the last season. A deal as been struck with Gateshead for the Blue Square North top scorer who has been tracked by the Terriers for sometimes now.

Gateshead are currently second in the Blue Square North table just a point behind leaders Tamworth and are by far the top scorers in the division.

Town who will discuss terms with Novak on Monday having beaten off a number of teams to capture the young striker, who will be loaned back to Gateshead for the reminder of the season. The Terriers will also travel to the North East for a pre-season friendly next season.

The deal is expected to be worth six figures for the powerful young striker who was tracked by Stockport County, Scunthorpe United and Peterborough United.

Both Lee Clark and Terry McDermott attended Gateshead 2-1 victory over Workington Town last evening and quality play from Novak led to Gateshead second goal after the Cumbrians had levelled. Novak has scored 17 goals this season thus far in 19 matches since joining Gateshead from Newcastle Blue Star in September.

Clark who has today admitted his interest in Novak, will sit down with the player marked "one for the future" and discuss personal terms on Monday. If those are successful Novak will sign for the Terriers.

The Novak signing would cement the current policy at the Galpharm Stadium of signing the best young talent available rather than seeking signatures of have been's. Clark matches the ambition of Dean Hoyle of reaching the top flight as soon as possible, but want to do this through playing a vibrant, attacking style of football.

Clark commenting on the signatures of Lionel Ainsworth and Anthony Pilkington, both exciting young talent who were tracked by a number of other clubs:

"Lionel and Anthony both fit the criteria we are looking for in that they are young, hungry and good footballers and they want to come on the journey with us.

They are outstanding young players who are capable of playing at the level above this. We can improve them as players as they are enthusiastic about the game.

The word is getting out about the progress this club is looking to make and that is attracting players to us."

Both players are reported to have joined the Galpharm Stadium for £400,000 each although, others claim Ainsworth was £250,000 and Pilkington around £550,000.

Worthington leaves Galpharm

Former team captain Gomersal based Jon Worthington has left the Galpharm Stadium today and joined League One rivals Yeovil Town on a one month loan. Worthington will team up with former colleague Danny Schofield.

The tough battling midfielder is out of contract at the end of the season and moves to Huish Park until March 3rd. He has not featured for Lee Clark's first team since Boxing Day and Worthington should be available for selection for Yeovil.

Worthington who wears the number 8 shirt is a graduate of the Academy and the local boy has made over 200 appearances for the club, he supported as a boy.

This season he has featured in 22 matches (all competitions) scoring once against Bradford City in August in the League Cup.

Worthington has been subject to much speculation over the past few months and this will add some stability to the player who has been an excellent servant to the club. It would seem likely Yeovil will extend the loan past the one month if he is successful down in Somerset.

Worthington will be all too aware that he is out of contract at the end of the season at the Galpharm Stadium and will use this loan for a potential permanent role either with Yeovil or another club, should Town not wish to offer him a new contract.

Worthington has previously been linked with West Yorkshire rivals League Two Bradford City.

Keegan taking an "interest" in events at the Galpharm Stadium

Chief Executive Nigel Clibbens has dismissed newspaper reports linking former England and Newcastle United manager Kevin Keegan to a part time coaching role with Town, he has admitted that the Lee Clark and his coaching team are in direct conversation with the Doncaster born friend of Clark and his assistant Terry McDermott and first team coach Derek Fazackerly was Keegan's assistant during his tenure of the England national side.

Clibbens has admitted that there is an open invitation for Keegan to come down to the club and see if he would be interested in a role, but as of yet any role perpetrated in the media is speculation.

Media reports suggest that Town are set to acquire the services of Bristol Rovers striker Ricky Lambert, but Dean Hoyle has said that the club will not be held to ransom and that a loan deal maybe more applicable until the summer.

Hoyle has stated that there are a number of irons still in the fire as the transfer deadline is quickly approaching.

Lambert linked!

According to reports in the newspaper Town are reported to have had a £750,000 bid for Bristol Rovers star striker Ricky Lambert accepted, after Town boss Lee Clark turned his attentions to the powerful Gashead. However his current club have rubbished the reports.

Town officials have also remained tight lipped regarding the reports featured in national newspaper The Sun, a feature the club have conducted for the plethora of names linked with a transfer to the Galpharm Stadium during the January transfer window.

Another striker link as proved to be rubbish. Town were mentioned as making a move for 22 year old Middlesborough striker Tom Craddock who was on loan at Luton Town. Craddock today signed a two and a half year deal with the Hatters.

-

Robbo banned for three matches!

Following his silly dismissal on Saturday at Leicester City quality winger Gary Roberts will be missing for three league matches, beginning with the match at Yeovil Town this evening.

Roberts was shown two yellow cards in the 86th minute by the referee. The first for kicking the ball away in frustration, and then his frustration got the better of him with foul and abusive language to the referee. He misses three matches, as the first yellow card took him to five bookings for the season.

Roberts was the last remaining ever present this season, and he will clearly be disappointed in himself, because he has been having a great season and for many player of the season thus far.

Town's number 17 will also miss the home matches with Peterborough United (Saturday) and Hartlepool United (next Tuesday evening). New signing Anthony Pilkington is expected to take the left wing position for this evening's contest with Yeovil Town at Huish Park.

Terriers complete double transfer

Yesterday Huddersfield completed the exciting double capture of two very good young players. Joining the ranks of professional players on the books at the Galpharm Stadium are 20 year old Anthony Pilkington and 21 year old forward Lionel Ainsworth.

Both are exciting prospects and have excelled at their current clubs. Ainsworth has been on loan at Hereford United this season and impressed, whilst Pilkington has featured highly for League One rivals Stockport County.

Both have signed for an undisclosed fee. The paperwork and necessary medical checks were not carried out in time to allow clearance for this afternoon's match at Leicester City, but both are available for selection for Tuesday night's visit to Yeovil Town.

Pilkington takes the number 19 shirt vacated by Luke Beckett whilst Ainsworth is the first player this season to take number 34. The Terriers squad as been updated click here for more details.

Town are rumoured to be set to announce the capture of striker Liam Dickinson for £500,000 from Championship side Derby County. County are ready to cash in on the striker they bought from Stockport in the summer. Dickinson spent a largely success loan period with Town earlier this season under the Stan Ternent regime.

Terriers set for double swoop!

With just over a week left of the transfer window Lee Clark is set for a double swoop with the capture of attacking midfielders Anthony Pilkington and Lionel Ainsworth.

Anisworth who is currently plying his trade at Championship side Watford will sign a 2 and a half year deal, whilst Stockport's Pilkington will sign a three and a half year deal.

The deal was progressed by Dean Hoyle and Nigel Clibbens last night with the fees involved not been disclosed, Hoyle has called the capture of these two players "exciting".

Ainsworth (21) is a product of the Derby County Academy and he has featured for England at Under 17's, 18's and 19's level and sensationally destroyed Oldham Athletic last weekend with two goals and an assist whilst on loan at Hereford United. Ainsworth can also be used as an out and out striker.

Lancashire born Pilkington is a solid and tall 20 year old and performed admirably this season and last for Stockport County, helping County to achieve play-off glory last summer.

They will complete their medicals today and providing there is no mishaps with those, both should be available for the trip to the South West on Tuesday evening.

Meanwhile new signing left back Dominik Werling has received International clearance and is available for first team match selection at the Walkers Stadium tomorrow.

The Terriers are also giving a trial to Darlington wide midfielder Seb Carole, who has decided to leave the County Durham side. The 26 year old French born player has been given a trial by Lee Clark's management team and will be hoping to achieve a contract with the Galpharm Stadium club.

Clark makes first signing!

Huddersfield Town have done a first today. Not only does today mark Lee Clark's first ever signing as a football manager but Town have signed a German born player for the first time ever!

Dominik Werling, as signed until the end of the season this afternoon with an option to extend that. Playing at a decent level in Germany and Turkey, he has featured for Barnsley, where the pacey and powerful left back gained rave reviews for his skilful left foot.

He was unattached so no fee was involved, and Clark is delighted to have signed him having seen the player score in last week's friendly match with Blackburn Rovers which ended 1-1.

Clark calls this a quality signing, and the new signing will wear the number 25 shirt. Town will require international clearance for the player who passed his medical and if that goes through, Werling who has a German mother and American father will feature on Saturday against League leaders Leicester City.

Werling is 26 years of age.

Huddersfield Town continue to be linked with other names. Paul Gallagher - the Blackburn Rovers striker is said to be subject to a £1 million bid. Another is St Mirren midfielder Andy Dorman. Town on Friday last week had a £500,000 for Simon Cox of Swindon Town who ironically scored a day later in the Terriers 2-1 victory.

Porter not returning South?

If the morning reports are to be believed Motherwell striker Chris Porter will not be moving to the Galpharm Stadium in a deal worth £200,000. The SPL club have accepted the Terriers offer, but it is believed that Porter does not believe the move will further his career.

The Motherwell manager Mark McGhee has indicated he has spoken with the striker about a move to Lee Clark's side and the response was that he does not "fancy it".

Town are also said to have been attracted to Cardiff striker Warren Feeney. The 28 year old Northern Ireland International is on loan until the end of the season at Dundee United. Feeney has indicated he is happy to remain in the SPL.

Ironically, Dundee United face Motherwell in a league match this Sunday.

The Terriers are also said to be interested in young Middlesborough striker Tom Craddock. The 22 year old is currently on loan at League Two side Luton Town. It is doubtful, Craddock fits the "interesting times" Lee Clark is promising, and perhaps will not fit into the criterion of someone better than we already have!

Town linked with strikers

Huddersfield Town have officially tabled a £200,000 bid for Motherwell striker Chris Porter. The 25 year old former Oldham Athletic striker is also been tracked by Well's SPL rivals Hearts, but Motherwell boss Mark McGhee does not want to allow the 8-goal striker to go to a fellow Scottish side.

Wigan born Porter moved to Scotland following a successful spell with Oldham in the summer of 2007 is out of contract in the summer and scored 18 goals in the SPL last season and in the previous two with Oldham 22 goals in both seasons.

Also the rumours continue to circulate that Town will make an interesting bid for Championship striker Kevin Phillips. Phillips who is a star of the Birmingham City side who site third in the table is wanted by the Terriers as a player/coach. It is believed that Phillips who will command high wages, as a coaching release clause in his Blues contract.

GET BEHIND THE TOWN EVOLUTION!

Huddersfield Town officials have today revealed that 'home' supporters will be able to use part of the South Stand (The Pink Link Stand) for this Saturday's clash with Swindon Town at the Galpharm Stadium.

The success of the South Stand trial which took in four league matches beginning with the October 28th visit of Yeovil Town and taking in Leyton Orient, Walsall and Hereford United generated passionate support from behind the goal, however Town fans have been asked to abide by the rules of the stadium or risk losing this incentive.

The club acknowledges the support the South Stand supporters have given during the trial and only too happy to offer this again for this Saturday's match. It will be open for season ticket and non season ticket holders.

For Season Ticket holders:

You will need to present the match voucher for this match (number 14) at the turnstile and for adults pay £1, for concessions 50p. This is a change to the previous arrangement where supporters wishing to transfer was required to attend the ticket office for a ticket change.

For Non Season Ticker holders, normal admission prices apply:

Adults - £20
Seniors - £12
Students - £10
Under 16s - £10

The club look intent on giving the South Stand to home fans trial a good investigation and this extended trial needs supporting for the club to continue to look at hosting home matches with Terriers 'sitting' in the South Stand, however the use of the South Stand does come with a warning regarding persistent standing, something which was seen during the Hereford United match.

However, when you look at the Oldham Athletic and Scunthorpe United supporters over the Christmas and New Year period when they visited the Galpharm Stadium, few of their supporters in the areas next to the Antich Stand sat down, indeed some Oldham fans never sat down the whole match. So therefore, the club really needs to have one rule for all, and perhaps not deal with Town fans with the 'iron glove' approach.

Chairman-Elect Dean Hoyle has told HTAFC.com this afternoon that he believes the Town support can be the Terriers 12th man, so continue to support the South Stand initiative and get behind the Town evolution!

For more information on the Huddersfield Town experience click here.

All tickets are subject to normal booking conditions and charges and subject to availability. Book early for the cheapest prices and to avoid disappointment.

Town up bid for United striker

Reports are suggesting that Lee Clark has today increased his bid for Carlisle United striker Danny Graham to £350,000 following having a £250,000 bid turned down last week. Graham who scored against the Terriers on Boxing Day is out of contract and impressed as he scored and assisted in Carlisle's 2-0 victory at Elland Road on Saturday.

Graham is out of contract in Cumbria at the end of the season, however a number of Championship sides, including Barnsley and Swansea City are said to be tracking the goalscorer, however to date only the Terriers have tabled an official bid for the Carlisle number 9!

Lee Clark is said to be still tracking Andy Bishop the Bury prolific goalscorer who has turned down a new contract offer at Gigg Lane.

-

Goodwin in League One Team of the Week!

Jim Goodwin was selected to be included in the team of the week for League One this week following his performance on Saturday in the 1-1 draw at Northampton Town. Since the departure of Stan Ternent and a move into his more natural midfield position Goodwin as been improving and put in a number of impressive performances.

Former GK dies

Jack Wheeler the former Town goal keeper in the 1950's has died aged 89 in hospital in Nottingham. Wheeler joined the Terriers from Birmingham City for the start of the 1948/1949 season and made over 150 appearances for Town. In the promotion season of 1952/1953 Wheeler was an ever present in the side that gained a quick return to the elite.

Striker bid turned down

Huddersfield Town has had a £250,000 bid for Carlisle United striker Danny Graham rejected by the Cumbrians. The 23 year old scored against Lee Clark' side on Boxing Day in United's 3-0 victory. Carlisle local newspaper the 'News & Star' claim that four other clubs are tracking their leading striker.

Graham has scored 13 goals this season in League One and impressed on Boxing Day and interested Town. The striker a former Middlesbrough player is out of contract at the end of the season and Town are said to be the only team to have put money on the table.

Town's offer and Carlisle valuation do not match and therefore rejected by the Cumbrian outfit, but with Town perusing many options, they could go back with an improved offer for United's number 9 who opened the scoring on Boxing Day.

Graham is an impressive striker and impressed for Carlisle United during a relatively underachieving season and the Terriers could very much go back North with an improved offer. However, Town are officially saying nothing about the alleged approach.

Poignant minute applause for Ian Greaves

There was a warm minutes applause before the commencement of the Town v Oldham Roses clash this afternoon and the Town players wore black armbands in memory of former Terriers boss Ian Greaves, who passed away on Friday evening aged 76.

Greaves went down in the club's history by taking his Town side into the top flight, the last man to date to complete that feat. As the stadium acknowledged their respect to Greaves images of the former Boss' time at Leeds Road proudly displayed on the video wall. The applause was warmly respected by the near 3,000 travelling Oldham Athletic supporters, which for a big derby game was lovely to witness.

Greaves was already a coach at Town when he replaced then manager Tom Johnstone as manager. Although Greaves may have been a novice manager he brought with him sheer belief. Belief in his own ability and the challenge presented to him.

In his first season Town would finish a credible sixth in the second tier (click here for Those Were The Days article featuring that first season) but it is Greaves' second season in charge, that will ensure he will be remembered throughout Town's history.

At the end of the 1969/1970 season Town ended second division champions and booked their place into the top flight of English football for the first time in 14 years. That season Town finished with 60 points (2 for a win), enjoying 24 victories, 12 draws and just 6 defeats. They were seven points clear of second placed Blackpool and a further two points from third place Leicester City. It was also at the start of that season Huddersfield Town adopted the nickname the "Terriers".

Greavsie was most certainly the 'gaffer' at Leeds Road with Henry Cockburn his trusty First Lieutenant. Jimmy Nicholson was the Town captain throughout the promotion season. Town secured promotion at Middlesborough and then with their 10th away victory of the season secured the title at Blackburn Rovers.

Everyone who was there on the Tuesday night of March 14 1970 will never forget the party at Leeds Road against Watford. The majority proportion of the 27,000 crowd came to see Ian D. Greaves side and hail their conquering Terriers!

Ian Greaves put Town back into the football elite, something which as eluded every manager since. Town stayed there for two seasons and suffered a turn in fortune that by 1975 the Terriers were in the bottom division. Greaves resigned as manager of Town after the 1973/1974 season and became assistant manager of Bolton.

Memories are not forgotten, and for the many who witnessed Town in the top flight and the promotion season of 1969/1970 those will go to the grave with them. Rest In Peace Greavsie who will forever be remembered by Town fans.

Latics bringing fantastic following to Galpharm

Many times this season, perhaps too many, Town fans have been able to sing to the away support at home "Is that all you bring away?" well Saturday is an all together different proposition!

Oldham have sold their entire ticket allocation for the big Roses clash tomorrow and will be backed by a terrific travelling invasion force of 2,600 as they prepare for what the Latics are deeming a tough encounter.

The Lancashire side six points ahead of Town will know that under Lee Clark's management the Galpharm has not suffered an away goal and long may that continue as Town aim for a second half of the season promotion push.

With the Terriers improving on the field of late, many of the stay away fans should turn up for what is promised to be a classic 'derby' encounter, between two very good sides. Oldham believe that Town should be further up the table and will be there or there abouts at the end of the season which is terrific acknowledgement from a side that as sat on top of the League One pile.

The attendance should smash the current top attendance of 16,212 when Leciester City visited in October. That afternoon the visitors brought a noisy 2,490 supporters with them and Oldham Athletic support is set to be equally as noisy.

So Town fans the challenge is very simple ... get down to the stadium tomorrow and back Lee Clark's Barmy-Army as they look to create 'Fortress Galpharm'.

Killock joins United!

Academy product Shane Killock as again left the Galpharm Stadium to join Oxford United on a one month's loan deal. The 19 year old defender will join the Blue Square Premier side managed by Chris Wilder in time to feature at the weekend.

Match Officials Appointment - Oldham Athletic (Home) Saturday January 03 2009

The officials for the contest on Saturday which kicks-off at 15:00 are Jarnail Singh (match referee) from Middlesex, an assistant duo of Tony Harrington (Cleveland) and Kevin Hayward (Staffordshire) and the fourth official is Jock Waugh from South Yorkshire.

Having had some of the worst officials seen at the Galpharm Stadium on Sunday against Scunthorpe United in a very long time (and we have had some poor ones this season!) lets hope the officials are far far better for this Roses clash.

Singh began referring in 1985 so he is highly experienced and joined the National List of Referees in 2004 having enjoyed four years on the assistant list. The Midlander will need to use all his experience for what should be a lively and strong encounter.

Singh as officiated 16 matches this season. Singh was the referee for the September trip to Cheltenham, which the Terriers won 2-1; he booked six players that afternoon, four from Town. The previous season Singh officiated in the same fixture at Whaddon Road and booked no-one, as Town won 2-0 in December 2007.

He has yet to referee an Oldham Athletic match. He has shown 62 yellow cards and 2 red cards. His yellow card average this season is 3.875 per game. He is at times regarded as a fussy referee.

Singh is a Police Community Support Officer in West London.

Transfer window open!

The transfer window opened at midnight and Town fans will be eager to see who Lee Clark brings in and lets go as Town prepare a massive promotion push in the second half of the season. Although Clark is keen to give the current roster a chance, he will no doubt have areas of the team where he knows he will need to strengthen.

A left back or left sided defender and a striker with goals in him, are both required elements which Clark must address in this transfer window prior to it closing on February 2. However, players will have to leave the Galpharm before any new additions come in.

Town are currently six points away from the current play off placed lowest team but victory in the Roses clash on Saturday will close that gap. Oldham make the short trip over the Pennines knowing that a victory for them would preserve their play off place.

News and rumours will appear on this website during the month.
