Roberts will wear the number 17 shirt next season.

Town rout AFC Emley

Match Result: AFC Emley 0-8 Huddersfield Town | Pre-Season | Welfare Ground

Town got their first win of the pre-season schedule under their belt with an impressive and dominating performance against Ian Bank's non-league side. Again Stan Ternent used all his players and had a second good look at them as Town ran up eight goals.

The Terriers were 5-0 up at half time and a further three in the second period to secure a big win. The travelling Town army will have been happy with the scoreline and the performance which saw Town use the more traditional 4-4-2 formation. Town could also afford a Cadamateri shot which hit the post and late in the match Alex Smithes made a smart save to preserve the clean sheet.

0-1: Clarke (N), 5 mins
0-2: Berrett, 8 mins
0-3: Jevons, 15 mins
0-4: Jevons, 31 mins
0-5: Butler, 45 mins
0-6: Parker, 52 mins
0-7: Williams, 63 mins
0-8: Clarke (N), 72 mins

A concern from the evening will be the early injury to James Berrett.

Town side:
Matthew Glennon (45, Alex Smithes), Andy Holdsworth (45, Danny Codmand), Shane Killock, Michael Collins (45, Danny Broadbent), Andy Butler (45, David Mirfin), Nathan Clarke, Joe Skarz (45, Robbie Williams), James Berrett (15, Tom Clarke), Danny Cadamateri (45, Keigan Parker), Phil Jevons (45, Luke Beckett), Malvin Kamara.

SPL new boys sign Town old boy

Former Academy product Lucas Adkins has ended speculation about his future by signing a two-year with Hamilton who Town play in Hartlepool's Wilton Cup on Saturday (12:00 noon kick off). Akins has impressed the Academical's management team during a trial and the 19 year old has put to pen on a deal offered to him by manager Billy Reid.

Akins was released by Town at the end of last season having spent some time out on loan and during that time there as been repeated rumours regarding his future. This is a terrific news for the young former academy product, and we wish him well.

Terriers no comment

The repeated comments in some parts of the media about Town's interest in Ipswich Town pair Alan Lee and Gary Roberts in a £700,000 double swoop have resulted in a "no comment" from Town manager Stan Ternent. Ternent who has hinted at bringing in more players (some reports claim as many as four could still come in from now until the start of the season) would not be moved to comment on the potential signing of the two Tractor Boys.

Striker Lee is a Republic of Ireland international and could see his options at Portman Road limited due to summer signings down there. Roberts is a decent winger with good qualities and is been tracked by a number of other clubs. He is on the transfer list at Ipswich.

Throughout his career Lee who is known to Ternent during their Burnley days has scored goals and commanded a combined fee of £1.2 million and featured 37 times in the Championship last season scoring 11 goals. Ipswich paid £850,000 to take him from Cardiff in January 2001. He scored on the opening and last afternoon of last season and is certainly one the Tractor Boys supporters do not want to lose.

Roberts who appears surplus to requirements featured 10 times for the Tractor Boys with a goal (more worrying perhaps is the 5 yellow cards!) and spent some time on-loan at Crewe. At 24 the former Liverpool trainee could have plenty to offer. His only goal last season was on the opening day of the season, when Ipswich beat Sheffield 4-1 at home. Ironically two of the other three were scored by a certain Alan Lee!

We'll bring you more news on this and any other signings as we hear about them.

Town will not risk anyone with a slight knock or strain for tonight's short trip to non-league side AFC Emley.

Premiership Villa show clubs the way

Premiership giants Aston Villa has shown that compassion does exist in football by announcing that their new Nike produced kit will be sponsored for the 2008/2009 season by local Birmingham and West Midlands children's charity Acorns.

Acorns which was established in 1983 cares for children with life-limited illness and their logo will be across the Villa kits next season for free. Aston Villa have foregone any potential revenue from shirt sponsorship by producing this free affinity sponsorship deal which the club believes is far greater than any commercial sponsorship.

Villa has had an association with the children's charity since 2006 and offered this groundbreaking and wonderful offer to the charity due to the need to create extra awareness and funding.

This is an extremely honourable thing for Aston Villa to do and the first of any top-flight English side to offer such a wonderful platform for a charity to promote from. It follows in the footsteps of Spanish top-flight side FC Barcelona who gave their famous shirts sponsorship to UNICEF.

The Premiership club said on their website "We regard this partnership as more important and more valuable than any commercial opportunity presented us with". This is an excellent example of how terrific football clubs can be, lets hope that what the club calls and "experiment" comes off and the charity gains an influx of new donors to help support the vast expansion it is looking to produce.

Aston Villa recognises that it is a football club first and foremost but also understand it's traditional links and bonds to the area and the city of Birmingham in which it operates and much of it's fanbase covers - the same demographic area covered by Acorns. Although for commercial reasons Villa continue to look for lucrative commercial deals this season at least will have name Acrons across the famous claret and sky blue shirt, which is an impressive looking traditional shirt for next season.

Page made captain of Chesterfield FC

Robert Page who left Huddersfield Town at the end of last season having failed to agree a new deal as been named captain of his new club Chesterfield. Page conducted a similar role for the Terriers towards the end of last season following the separation with ex-boss Andy Ritchie.

The 33 year old former Welsh centre half was due to sign a new contract with Town until negotiations between him and the new management team of Stan Ternent and Ronnie Jepson fell down. He will wear the number 5 shirt at Saltergate next season as the Spireites battle to get out of the bottom tier of English football.

Huddersfield Open!

This Friday (July 11) marks the Terriers open day where supporters can see the squad in pre-season action at the Galpharm Stadium. This free behind the scenes event can be watched from the Antich Stand with the gates opening at 16:30. For an hour from 17:30 the players will train as they prepare for the start of the Pre-Season schedule with a match at League Two Bury on Saturday July 19th.

There will be concourse facilities available and supporters will also be able to see behind the scenes of the stadium. Ensure you enjoy this excellent supporter awareness day by visiting the stadium this Friday.

Friday will offer many supporters the first time to see the players 'for real' in their new training attire, the new management team in action, the new pitch and video wall and to sample some of the new and improved catering the club is it's supplier is promising for next season.

Lucketti given armband

The fourth summer signing of the summer Chris Lucketti has been given the honour and privilege of wearing the captain's armband for the 2008/2009 replacing former skipper Jon Worthington. Lucketti who was captain of Town during his first spell also captained Bury when Stan Ternent was his manager.

It is as expected and great news for the 36 year old who will be aiming to help keep a tight defence as Town gain promotion to the Championship next season.

-

Young signed up by Harrogate Town

Released Town midfielder has been signed by non-league outfit Harrogate Town.

-

Stan still targeting more signings

Despite producing four new signings for the Town faithful to enjoy next season Stan Ternent is promising more with a player to wear the number 10 shirt high on his agenda. Ternent who is well experienced at this level of football is making his intentions clear with his transfer dealings already, producing a tough mean backbone of the team next season.

Ternent is basing success on having a quality squad and will use pre-season to try out a range of formations to ensure the squad is comfortable to whatever the new management team expects of them. He has got balance, pace and defensive strength from those signed and all four have tasted success at this level not so long ago.

Fourth summer signing due

Tomorrow morning Stan Ternent will announce his fourth summer signing subject to the player passing a medical. Rumours are circulating that it could be someone to fill the number 10 shirt. Perhaps it may be a out of contract player but what are the chances of Dean Hoyle spending some of those "significant funds"?

We will have more news later in the day tomorrow.

08/09 Squad Numbers

Today marked the day new manager Stan Ternent announced next season's squad numbers and with it came no surprises as most of the squad that was in place last season retained the same numbers. Two did not however with Robbie Williams losing the number 10 shirt he is now 16 and Luke Beckett loses his number 18 shirt and is now number 19.

Perhaps the rumours that both Beckett and Williams could soon be on their way could be intensified with the number selection for next season.

New boy Kiegan Parker takes as we predicted back in May when he signed departed Chris Brandon's number 7 shirt. Fellow new boy Jim Goodwin takes the number 11 vacated by Danny Schofield. The latest new signing Andy Butler is given the number 18 shirt, the same number he wore at previous club Scunthorpe United.

There is again no number one shirt, and no number 13 shirt traditional given to the goalkeeper's, although last season the 13 shirt was worn by the now departed defender Frank Sinclair. There is no number 10 shirt, proving that Ternent is still on the hunt for a new striker and living legend Andy Booth retains his number 23 shirt.

First year professional Daniel Codman is given the 33 shirt with Danny Cadamateri retaining the legendary Town number 9 jersey.

The squad begins pre-season tomorrow. The new management team is promising the players a tough but enjoyable pre-season process as he looks to build a side capable of promotion next season. Ternent's coaching team will conduct three session's a day as he looks to ensure his players are ready to hit the ground running come August 9th.

The transfer activity at the club is far from over with the manager confirming to the official website that he is still on the hunt for new talent to join the reborn Town.

But the squad numbers are far from a revolution more a continuation on previous season's numbering system.

Kerr opts to remain in Scotland

Reported Town midfield target Mark Kerr has ended the rumours of where his future will lie by choosing to remain in the Scottish Premier League. Kerr has left Dundee United and set to join SPL rivals Aberdeen after he agreed terms with them, despite a host of clubs south of the border tracking him, including reported interest from the Terriers.

Read the story from Aberdeen's Press and Journal newspaper here. We would like to wish Kerr all the best at Pittodrie (but not when he plays St Mirren!).

26 year old Kerr will sign a two year deal on Monday when he arrives in North East Scotland following his for a medical.
