Andy Holdsworth takes Player of the season

Thisisthebarmyarmy.co.uk is pleased to announce that we have selected Andy Holdsworth as the player we believe deserves to be credited "Player of the Season" for 2007/2008. Young player of the season is James Berrett.

The young player of the season is selected on the following criteria:

"Who we believe has been the best young player throughout the season and has shown the most potential. Must have played in at least 10 matches (substitute appearances applicable) of the season and be under 23 years old."

The previous winners of the two awards in 2006/2007 were David Mirfin and Michael Collins (young).

Andy Holdsworth took the players player award and the supporters player of the season award. More details of the end of season player awards can be found in the end of season statistic pack.

Boothy signs new contract!

The "living legend" striker Andy Booth repaid the faith shown him with the offer of a new one year deal (which he has signed) by scoring his 9th goal of the season and his 142nd second in the colours of Town (125th in the league).

Booth has become the first of 16 out of contract players to sign a new deal with the striker looking forward to what he believes will be a promising year ahead. New manager Stan Ternent wasted no time in tying up the deal with Booth with him believing Booth will be an integral part of his plans for the next season.

The 33-year-old has shown commitment and dedication to his home town club in his two prolific spells and has delighted his new first team manager by signing the deal offered to him. Booth will now be coached by good friend Ronnie Jepson who he is only too happy to accept played a big part of his football upbringing during his younger days and 'Rocket Ron's' Leeds Road playing days.

Supporters must absolutely back the new manager decision

Yesterday Town's search for the new manager ended when former Bury and Burnley manager Stan Ternent was installed on a three year contract. Town received 27 applications for the role of manager, but in the words of Vice Chairman Andrew Watson none of those satisfied the requirements fully. However one of those showed enough passion and desire to succeed for Huddersfield Town that when Ternent was installed, he was asked to join as assistant manager. That 'he' is Ronnie Jepson - the man selected for his coaching qualities and who Ternent requested.

Ternent has a decent record in the league Town are in with two previous promotions with two different sides. Ternent also brought glory days to Turf Moor with big names signings joining Burnley whom he established in the second tier of English football.

Town wanted a leader of men, organisation and desire - the new man ticks all those boxes and more besides. Watson has said they had a 5-criteria selection and that none of those that applied ticked enough boxes, so they turned to Pride Park and Ternent. Town consulted three Premiership managers including the best of the best in Manchester United manager Sir Alex Ferguson.

These are changing times for the Terriers and the supporters need to get behind the team 100%. Those that can't should stop embarrassing the club they claim to support and keep their comments off open message boards and out of the Galpharm Stadium. If you judge Ternent now on his past record he is better than most rumoured names to have been interested in the role. He has won more than many and although he may not have a glamour element to him, he is a winner, a fighter and with proven discipline - all the qualities our club needs.

He is the manager of our club going forward, the club we all love and the club we all dream of success for. Remember it is our club, so back our club and if you cannot, can you hand on heart say that Huddersfield Town is your club?

Stan the Man is well respected across the border by Burnley supporters and one has said how he believes Ternent is one of their best ever managers. "In his first full season for Burnley he won promotion from Division 2 (League 1) runners up to Preston. In this first season in Division 1 (now the Championship) he led Burnley to seventh place and a season later he led Burnley to the same position missing out on the playoffs by one goal". Others say they would have been delighted if their club had made his management move.

When he was sacked after the 2-1 home defeat to Sunderland in 2005 - his name rang around the Turf Moor stadium.

Eyes open Town fans this is a very decent and strewed managerial signing which has clearly taken plenty of preparation time and plenty of investigation into who the best person is. And will he bring in a number of former players who he has managed before and knows how to get the best out of? With 16 players out of contract in summer and an increased transfer budget, the close season could pose some very good developments in the advancement of the club. He has a proven history of signing good players and spending transfer funds wisley.

Good luck to the Terriers next season under the management of Ternent and Jepson. Give them the chance they so rightfully deserve and warrant, keep the faith, back the Terriers in 2008/2010 and beyond!

Major shareholder Dean Hoyle, who took an active part in the sourcing of the Terriers new manager told the official website: "I believe we've the right manager in Stan to bring in quality signings, to get the players physically and mentally prepared and to give them a desire to win. He's a man who'll only sign players who want to give their all for the blue and white stripes."

Tomorrow's match

Tomorrow's match at the Galpharm Stadium marks not only the new manager's first game in charge (although Gerry Murphy and Graham Mitchell will take care of first team affairs), or the last home match of the season but it is also a designated family fun day at the Galpharm Stadium.

Prices for the match dubbed "A Century of support" have been cut with adult admission at £10, concessions £5 and the League One Family Club of the year 2007/2008 slashing junior prices to just one pound!

The Anitch singing section will be renamed The Cowshed in memory of the former signing stand of the old Leeds Road ground and the bonanza will end the first 100 years of the history of Huddersfield Town AFC, as a new era is set to begin.

The match day magazine will also be subsidised at just a £1 and this will include special portraits of supporters including an events list of the Centenary activities. There will also be a one minute applause to remember those Town fans who no longer walk this earth.

A special day for all, as Town bring to an end their first one hundred years of operation and to the home 2007/2008 schedule.

Ternent and Jepson new management team!

23 days on and with a new major shareholder Huddersfield Town are set to unveil their new management team before Saturday's final home match of the 2007/2008 season.

After Andy Ritchie was sacked on April 1, Town are set to announce the capture of Derby County assistant manager Stan Ternent and popular former Terriers striker Ronnie Jepson as the new management team to spearhead Town's revival and propel them to glory next season.

Confirmed this afternoon by the club Tennant will become the 33rd manager in the 100 years history of the club which will enter it's centenary season. With discounted season tickets prompting big crowds next season new major shareholder and chairman-elect Dean Hoyle must be hoping that the Ternent/Jepson partnership will be very successful to ensure that some of the new season ticket holders for next season purchase again in 2009/2010.

44 year old Ronald Francis Jepson (Rocket Ron to Town fans) played for Town between 1993/1996 making over 100 appearances and scoring 36 goals is well respected by Terriers fans and is largely attributed with the rise of legend Andy Booth during his Leeds Road career. Jepson as been out of work since he was resigned as Gillingham boss in September 2007. Jepson's capacity as a scout recently under former Town boss Neil Warnock may help the Terriers fill some of the current voids in the playing roster and most certainly allow him to make informed judgements on what is available in terms of what Town can let go in summer.

Many will remember Jepson's 100% work rate and his tenacity as features of his days in blue and white stripes as well as the way in which he looked after the young members of the squad and how he grabbed Chris Billy of his feet with the 1994/1995 play-off winning goal at the old Wembley Stadium.

Stanley Ternent (61) a former Chelsea assistant manager will be Jepson's boss again having signed the striker as a player for both Bury and Burnley and had Rocket Ron in a coaching capacity at Burnley and Gillingham. Ternent comes to the Galpharm Stadium from Derby County were he was assistant manager (since December 2007). Despite him being in work there will be no compensation paid to Derby County due to a clause in the former Burnley manager's contract.

Ternent has three promotions from the five previous clubs he has managed. Twice with Bury (1995/1996 - division 3 and 1996/1997 - division 2 champions) and Burnley (1999/2000), although he has not managed a club since he resigned as manager of Gillingham in May 2005.

Ternent's record as a manager is as follows:

Matches: 570
Won: 213
Drawn: 160
Lost: 197
Success Rate: 37.37%

Although perhaps not the electrifying appointment some of the club's fans would have liked (and perhaps since he is a former Bradford coach who in the past turned down the chance to manage Town). Chairman Ken Davy has pointed to Ternent's ability in the English third tier as the reasoning behind the appointment of the often highly outspoken and hard faces boss. Not a manager to allow slackers, the players who played under Andy Ritchie at Town are up for a rude awakening from a manager who excels in tough discipline and does not shire away from making strong decisions.

Ternent will not interject this season and allow Gerry Murphy and Graham Mitchell to continue with first team affairs until the end of the season but then he will take charge as he looks to take the club to the championship where according to the new manager in charge of Huddersfield Town that is where they belong.

Unlike his predecessor Ternant does not wish to make promises to the Town fans but gives assurance that he has joined the Terriers for promotion for a club he holds in high esteem. Jepson who requires no introduction to Town fans who gave Rocket Ron a wonderful reception when he returned during his playing days for Bury (November 1997) managed Gillingham for 86 matches winning 31.

Jepson still remembers fondly the reception he received from the Town faithful that Saturday afternoon he returned in November and I am very sure he will receive an even bigger one on Saturday April 26th when he returns as Assistant Manager of HTAFC. He calls the Town fans "different class who always get behind their team" who followed Town's results following his departure to Bury in 1996. And one of Jepson most memorable moments in the blue and white stripes of Huddersfield Town was signing the national anthem at the old Wembley Stadium.

thisisthebarmyarmy.co.uk would like to welcome Stan Ternant to the club and welcome back Rocket Ronnie Jepson.

Stan Ternents Biography can be purchased by clicking here. Stan the man: A hard life in football was published in January 2004 and available for purchase at £5.99 (excluding shipping and handling).

Glennon turns down offer of a new contract!

Town's number one goalkeeper Matthew Glennon has turned down the club's offer of a new contract and with a number of other clubs interested looks set to be leaving the club at the end of the season. The 29 year old who was brought to the Galpharm Stadium by former boss Peter Jackson in June 2006 and the highly rated shot stopper who has featured in almost 100 matches for the Terriers is wanted by a host of championship clubs with even Premier League Birmingham City said to be interested.

Glennon's agent calls him the best 'keeper out of the championship and said that the player has reluctantly turned down the contract offer as he loves the club and the fans.

The former St Johnstone 'keeper looks set to be on the move. The news of Glennon's imminent departure has left fans spilt on their opinion (as always) of him.

A record and exciting 35% of those sales are new customers and season tickets have been sold throughout the country including France!

Board willing to wait for right man ...

Dean Hoyle will be in the directors box this evening for the first time a Yorkshire Derby against Leeds United. Hoyle as spoken of the process that the club will take in securing the services of a new manager. From comments made to the official website it would seem that Town will be employing an out of work manager rather than risk compensation payment for an in-work manager.

However the new major investor from Heckmondwike will not be rushed into make an appointment and in the event, following a two-stage interview process, the right man does not appear then the board of Town is willing to wait until the right man is available.

Talking to the official website Hoyle said "I'd like to think we'll have someone in place before the summer but we only have one chance at this and we have to get it right".

Hoyle's first seat in a director's box was at Vale Park on Saturday where Town's point relegated former Town captain Lee Sinnott's Port Vale side.

After the December drubbing at Elland Road Town have some questions to answer and a performance to give their supporters ... a Dave Cowling 1982 Milk Cup goal would be nice! History shows that United have not won in Huddersfield since 1963 and this is their first competitive visit to the Galpharm Stadium.

Hertfordshire's Paul Taylor will officiate this evening's match. Having refereed matches at the highest level this season is the last and marks his 38th match of the season. Perhaps this will be one of his toughest matches in his swan-song season.

New name for the North Stand!

The Panasonic Stand (North Stand) will be known now as the Fantastic Media Stand. The Japanese electrical giant had it's European Panasonic brand on the stand since it was built in 1998 completing the four stands of the stadium.

Local company Fantastic Media becomes the fourth local company to sponsor the stands of the stadium moving away from the previously more national and international brands. New major investment for Huddersfield Town

Life-long Huddersfield Town fan Dean Hoyle becomes the major investor in Huddersfield Town switching the Kilner Bank for the honoured position of club chairman. A move which will safeguard and enhance the future prospects of Town as they mark their 100 years in operation ...

Today is a special day for Town fans with supporter and greetings card boss Dean Hoyle (40) from Heckmondwike injecting funds into the club and eventually replacing Ken Davy as chairman of Huddersfield Town.

The first task for chairman-elect Hoyle will be to sit on the panel of the two-tier selection of a new manager which will be selected from the 6 on the short list. Hoyle will be handed control of the football club at the end of next season, allowing current chairman and owner Ken Davy to be chairman during the centenary season.

Davy has called Hoyles funding "significant" and his partnership with Hoyle as "fruitful" and "exciting". Hoyle has called the status of chairman of the club both a "privilege" and "exciting". Davy will remain as a minority shareholder in the club.

Hoyle a millionaire entrepreneur and lifelong Town fan runs Wakefield based Card Factory which employs over 5,000 people and has enjoyed significant growth since it was founded 10 years ago. Hoyle with wife Janet have 370 stores the length and breath of the British Isles and has enjoyed massive organic growth through it's fair pricing strategy. In 3 years (to 2006) Card Factory enjoyed 74% sales growth and we listed 69 in the UK's Fast Track 100.

With it's £100 million turnover it is one of the country's largest retail operations up from 2002 sales of £6.6 million. Hoyle added Celebration Cards to his portfolio of stores in 2006 as he looked to acquisitions as well as impressive organic growth to expand his business.

As a fan and as a local man, this news is wonderful for everyone connected to Huddersfield Town and April 10 2008 could go down in a very bright day in the history of the Terriers. He starts to pave the way to Town success stepping from the stands to the board room, by electing the new manager of the club. As a supporter, he will have heard the supporters concerns, and as a supporter he will have felt the same pain.

A fan since the glorious Mick Buxton days of 1979/1980, he has witnessed ups and downs during his Town supporters days and looks to run the club with his own funding because he has enough. He can make a huge statement to fans young and old, new and current with the season tickets. In doing so he has pledged that the Marcus Stewart situation "should never be repeated". In him, there should be a listening chairman, and you wonder now how much he is behind the recent improvements in Town's off the field to fans improvements.

He wants a quality manager onboard who will deliver real benefits to the club and it's supporters by spending the extra funding wisely. He also mentions with delight the Dave Cowling Milk Cup winning goal in 1982 at Elland Road (click here to listen to the Cowling winning goal), and talks and acts like the lifelong supporter he is. He has been pushing for involvement since January and is delighted to have come on board. Favourite players of his through the years have included Malcolm Brown, Steve Kindon and Marcus Stewart. He also enjoyed the centre combination of Darren Bullock and Richard Logan, like many many Town fans.

The website of Card Factory is http://www.cardfactory.eu.com.

The new man at the helm can begin to make a real difference and show Town fans what he is about and what he intends as the long term future of the club and to it's lifeblood (the supporters) is offering a unique and inspiring season ticket prices. Prices that will lure the stay away supporters back into the club, and we wonder just how much he has been behind a number of initiatives in recent weeks, as the Town board have clearly added supporter-friendly incentives to home matches including the fun day for Walsall and the Centenary match with Arsenal.

Six on shortlist

The Town board as reduced the number of candidates from 25 to just 6. They will now hold two-tier interviews over next week before making their decision.

Short list due for next manager

The Town board is set to reduce the list of 25 applications for the vacant Town manager job to five or six as they looks to produce a short list of names good enough to take Town forward. The current favourite is former Wigan and Bradford manager Chris Hutchings a former Terriers player. The board revealed that the applicants were of varying ability and experience.

Other names connected to replace Andy Ritchie sacked last week include Martin Allen, Ronnie Jepson, Chris Beech and Micky Adams. Others banded around include Alan Shearer, Billy Davies, Mike Newell, John Gregory, Iain Dowie and Greg Abbott. One of the names is not current caretaker boss Gerry Murphy who does not want the role, his role has Director of Football Development, should not be under threat despite a new manager coming into the club.

It is likely to be cost and experience which will point the Town board to move for Hutchings and his great experience will likely influence the move for the former Wigan boss. Hutchings who could be named manager as early as next week as been out of work since leaving the Premiership strugglers in November.

The decision will be made by Ken Davy, Andrew Watson, Roger Armitage, Ralph Rimmer and Ann Hough and the decision needs to be made whether to appoint on experience or potential. Once they have their criteria sorted, this will dictate the short list. With this in place, the board will they make the decision, although late entries meeting the selection criteria will not be discounted neither will in work managers of which one could be Hartlepool United's boss Danny Wilson or current Northampton Town manager Stuart Gray.

An appointment will be made before the end of the season to enable the new man to take control of the last few league games and decide the futures of the 16 players out of contract at the end of the season.

A number of the names been associated with the vacancy saw Town twice lead during their lively Yorkshire derby draw with Doncaster Rovers on Saturday and a new man could be installed before the final home game of the season against play off chasing Walsall on April 26th (which incidentally will benefit from reduce admission prices).

Whoever Town appoint, it must be one for now and the future to safeguard the on and off field interests of the club. A decent all round package in both terms of coaching and management is just what Davy needs to supply the long suffering Town fans. And this time, don't make the promises if they are going to fabricated suggestions and 12 months later the club is back to square one.

Page wants to stay a Terrier!

January signing Robert Page wishes to extend his career at Huddersfield Town by signing on in the summer. Former Welsh International Page is one of 16 players out of contract at the end of the season but the newly installed team captain says he wishes to remain at the club next season.

Page who was signed by Andy Ritchie on a free transfer from Coventry City as been an instant hit in his short career and was made team captain until the end of the season by caretaker manager Gerry Murphy, to enable club captain Jon Worthington to concentrate on his football.

The 33 year old who is enjoying his time at Town and perhaps as one or two very good season's left in him revealed that he had opened fresh contract talks with Ritchie before he was sacked last week. He hopes the parting of the ways with one manager and the introduction of a new one does not stall his hopes of gaining a new Galpharm contract.

Legends on thisisthebarmyarmy.co.uk - who is the latest?

Perhaps Legend for this player does not go down in terms of goals scored, games played, but for his sheer tenacity to over come injury at 23 years old which cut his blossoming career tragically short. He arrived from his native Ireland to Huddersfield and still remembers with affection the club and indeed the Cowshed boys.

He is unlucky 13 (our thirteenth Legends) and perhaps in the entire history of Huddersfield Town Football Club, he is perhaps one of the most unluckiest players. He is capped International player.

For the eagle-eyed amongst you, you may have noticed our brand new logo for the website. Maintaining the site name as the branding, we have moved back to a static image rather than our pervious animation effect as the sites main logo. We have also introduced the button colour to the lettering, keeping the .co.uk element very straight forward font. We have for the first time introduced an artistic swirl to the logo introducing gold to the logo and the site for the very first time. The gold colouring is also transferred below the swirl in the .co.uk lettering.

As part of the changes we have introduced an exciting addition to our site graphics. Below is the dynamic ribbon device "T" which will feature as the 'cut down' logo of thisisthebarmyarmy.co.uk. The font is the same used in the 'full size' logo.

After a period of change in relation to the site logo, we hope that these changes are pleasing to our visitors. Rumours ... glorious rumours!

Football would just not be football without the element of rumours and following Tuesday's situation at the Galpharm, the rumour mill for Town is working overtime. The latest one, which if true and came off could be sensational and inspiring, is linking former Newcastle United chairman Sir John Hall combining with former Town chairman Graham Leslie to buy out current owner and chairman Ken Davy.

They would then install former Newcastle United and England striker Alana Shearer has manager of Town. Shearer who was said to be interested in the Newcastle United manager's position but ruled that out citing the need for experience. The Town role would give him that whilst giving him a big name team to manage.

It could just be a rumour, but savour the thought of it, could be quite tempting to want a piece of the action with that in place for next season, and the 12 months under Andy Ritchie could become a very distant memory.

We will keep you up to date with all the rumours and stories relating to the managerial vacancy at Town.

Murphy promises changes

Caretaker manager Gerry Murphy is promising Town fans changes and an improved performance has he and Graham Mitchell have attempted to restore confidence and passion in the players sadly lacking following recent poor performances under Ritchie. Murphy is attempting to eradicate what he calls "a collection of small problems" as he aims to secure a derby win at home against promotion chasing Doncaster Rovers.

Swansea City will be routing for a Town victory, as that coupled with a Swansea victory over AFC Bournemouth would give City promotion.

Tomorrow's captain will be Robert Page, with Murphy looking for an old experienced head to lead Town through these troubled times. The caretaker boss wants Jon Worthington to concentrate on playing, and is hoping the reduced responsibility will help Worthington take control of the midfield, as Town look to arrest and halt the current decline.

If you are attending tomorrow's match Town are offering a 'food ... glorious food' deal. Supporters will be able to purchase a pie and pint before 14:30 for a special price of £4.50. For the first 250 they will receive a free stadium book.

So get down tomorrow, and help "Restore the faith" in the club. Wear the blue and white stripes with pride, and back the players. Of course Murphy and Mitchell will have to ensure that the players on the pitch wear the same famous stripes with the same pride and with honour against a buoyant Doncaster Rovers side.

Part of Ritchie's coaching team goes, as search for the new manager hots up

No sooner as the name "Andy Ritchie" been removed from the manager's door at the Galpharm Stadium and across website's then a member of Andy Ritchie's coaching team as also lost his Town position.

John Dungworth has seen his near 10 year association with the club ended, as the former Town striker left the club by "mutal consent". Dungworth stepped up from the Town Academy in December 2006 as a right hand man to Peter Jackson. He maintained that role under Ritchie.

According to reports Martyn Booty will retain his position within Town's coaching set-up, but with Ken Davy promising the new manager a clean slate to work with, it is highly unlikely Booty will remain long after the appointment of a new manager.

The search for a new manager continues, with as expected, a number of names being linked with the vacant position. Town are rumoured to favour current Northampton Town manager Stuart Gray as the next boss, with Martin Allen publicly linking himself with the job.

Other names been banded around include Alan Shearer, former players Chris Hutchings and Mark Lillis. Current Carlisle number two Greg Abbott is said to be interested. Again whoever is appointed, they need the right support and backing from everyone connected with the club. Davy also needs to make the right appointment and the right manager and coaching team who can deliver results on and off the pitch to guide the club towards the owner's ambitious aims. Whether that is an established manager or a new young manager with fresh ideas, providing it is the right name and the right all round package Davy will make a decent appointment.

Caretaker manager Gerry Murphy and Academy head Graham Mitchell undertook training again today with club captain Jon Worthington calling the departure of Andy Ritchie a "shock".

Ritchie sacked - his short embarrassing tenure finally ended!

Despite the date, this is not an April's Fool Joke. Andy Ritchie has left Huddersfield Town by mutual consent. Finally the joker Ritchie has gone paying the price for some abysmal performances, even worse press conferences, and his lack of motivational skills as he failed to take any responsibility for the current on the field mess. With dwindling attendance's, lack of supporter confidence and major fears for season ticket sales chairman and owner Ken Davy has had to take the axe to the managerial reign just 12 months since appointing him.

Davy called the appointment of former Barnsley manager (less than 12 months ago) a demonstration of "our determination to do the best we can to achieve promotion to the Championship ... Andy is fully aware of our ambitious ... a track record and the determination ... will command respect from the most experienced players as well as our up and coming stars" - in the end the exact opposite applied and Town are further from achieving the chairman's goals than when the former Manchester United and Oldham Athletic striker took to the helm.

An uneasy recent few months in the history of Huddersfield Town as finally come to an end, lets just hope that Ken Davy and the Town board can make the correct all round package deal to replace the current management team ...

Huddersfield Town have today announced that manager 47 year old Andy Ritchie has been relieved of his duties just 12 months into a two year contract. He took over the managerial reigns at the club following the sacking of Peter Jackson on March 6th 2007. Ritchie's removal has manager comes after a very disappointing season in which the manager failed to deliver. With reducing attendance's and player targets failing to follow through to new arrivals, chairman Ken Davy has had his hand forced.

To say this news is a surprise, would be wrong, as it as been on the cards for sometime now and something this site as wanted since the beginning of March following poor performances, poor press comments and his general lack of player motivation. Ritchie leaves with the club in 14th position in league one, no better than when he took over the role.

Gerry Murphy will caretaker manage side starting with the Yorkshire derby at the Galpharm Stadium on Saturday a roll he performed around 13 months ago following the release of then manager Peter Jackson.

Davy who will begin the search for the club's 33rd manager and 8th since the turn of the decade sighting the lack of on field success despite an increase in spending and money for fresh faces. Ritchie has failed to deliver on the field, despite him promising 12 months ago to give the clubs loyal supporters quality attacking football and to bring the stay away supporters back to the club. That new era lasted just 12 months, as Ritchie failed to produce any sort of attacking flair and ability and the club's fans have stayed away in even bigger numbers this season leading to some embarrassingly low home crowds.

Davy had to manoeuvre himself into some sort of action or suffer low season ticket sales, to say the news of Ritchie been released is good news is not half of it. During the last two season the form of the club as been pathetically bad, as they have underachieved, despite raising the expectations of the fans. Davy now must concentrate on bringing in a new era both on and off the field, including new investment. Perhaps that means Davy standing aside, and allowing a new man in. With rumours that Graham Leslie sanctioned the removal of Ritchie as manager, signally he is ready to invest in the club during summer. Times could be very interesting, unless the rumours are totally unfounded.

Without passion, guidance and quality Town have had a number of embarrassing defeats. None more so than the 4-1 drubbing at Oldham Athletic on Saturday which the manager clearly blamed on his players. During a 45 minute rant after the match Ritchie called the players "disgraceful", with claims from certain players he lost the dressing room and the spirit in the club drifted to an all time low.

With Davy focused on a new man in charge he is looking to fresh options to kick start faltering Town. He wants to bring in a manager who will deliver on Town's "tremendous potential" as they look forward to the Centenary season. Davy's hopes and dreams of creating a Top 30 club in Huddersfield has failed to deliver, and this is something he clearly needs to address, as other parts of his business plans (worryingly including the financial plan) have also failed to get close to board expectations.

Town's lack of success, must point to consistency, with the club failing to make the right manager appointment or not giving them enough time. Ritchie was second choice, with Phil Parkinson first choice. Parkinson was ready to be unveiled by the club before Parkinson's 11th hour u-turn kept him at Charlton. That episode in the history of the club was embarrassing and must not happen again.

In recent memory no Town manager has maintained the managerial role for any length of time. Peter Jackson's 45-month second spell is the longest by far. You need to go back to Eion Hand (June 1988 to March 1992) to see stability from a management team at the club. True a number of board changes during this time will not have helped this, but what the club needs and deserves and more importantly what needs to be delivered is a managerial appointment with passion, dedication and a winning formula. Davy - you must get it right!

As with any available job, the muting of out of work players and former players come to the fore. Supporters have already pointed to the likes of Martin Allen, Mickey Adams, Brian Laws, Ronnie Jepson, Sam Allardyce, Dave Penney and Steve Cotterill. But a decent appointment could be Mark Lillis as head coach with Micky Buxton as Director of Football Operations.

Whoever the appointment it will be an improvement on Andy Ritchie who won 22 of his 51 games in charge with 5 draws (24 ended in defeat). The manner in which Town played however, will go down as some of the poorest football in recent history.

Support the team on Saturday and turn up in numbers, the supporters voted with their feet by saying away (under 8,000 for three of the last 4 home matches including a all time season low and lowest ever for a Galpharm league game of 6,004 for the 2-1 win against Brighton recently) and they prayed that chairman and owner Ken Davy would take direct action.

Davy has now taken that action, so vote with your feet and show Davy that you support his decision by turning up in numbers for the match with Doncaster Rovers on Saturday and back Gerry Murphy's team to the full. None of what was promised when Ritchie was appointed manager materialised and his management will be regarded as one of the worst, as Ritchie failed to inspire and often looked, sounded and appeared clueless to prevent heavy defeats and poor displays.

Ritchie wanted to make an impression with the players, he failed to do this, he wanted positive results, generally he failed to do this. He wanted to take Huddersfield Town far - he failed to do this in the right direction and he said on his appointment "if we get things right on the pitch, we can get 15-16,000 here every week - maybe more", he certainly failed on this account - where are the 9-10,000 he has alienated?

He wanted to motivate the players and taste success, he failed to do that. He wanted to get players hitting their full potential, playing with passion flair and firepower - what a joke that line has turned out to be! That for one must have been out of his press book of comments, because that would be priceless if it were not so far from the truth, has Ritchie has let down our club and Ken Davy.

He failed in every sense of the word in every manner of football. He failed to motivate, instil belief and have his side score goals. Town have only scored 43 goals in 40 league matches conceding 60, despite him bringing in two strikers in Danny Cadamateri (another waste of money) and Phil Jevons who has failed to match the potential during his short Town career.

The official website called Ritchie's tactics "fame for fast attacking football" promising fans "an exciting season", none of this was delivered, as Ritchie failed to attract the fast attacker he so wanted to bring in, and failed to excite the fans with attacking impetus, as the players were not motivated by him and in the end lost all respect for him - making Ritchie's position untenable. The goals dried up, the victories slipped away but all Ritchie could say was "they did not turn up", "disgraceful" as he continued to say the play-off's were attainable!

And this time, let's hope the 'coaching' duo of Martyn Booty and John Dungworth also leave the Galpharm Stadium, so the club can yet again (far too many times in the last 15 years) can start a fresh. The days of the League Two play off victory seems a long time ago, but at least this alarming slip and the manner in which Town have gone backwards as been addressed in some point by Davy - he now needs to do the second part well, much better than 12 months ago.

Andy Ritchie April 11 2007 to April 01 2008. His first match in charge was a 2-0 defeat at Scunthorpe United, his first home match a scintillating 4-2 victory over Milwall - perhaps the best Town game under Ritchie.

Sheffield Wednesday must now be delighted that in October 2006 they were not granted permission by Barnsley (Ritchie's then employer) to talk to Ritchie as they looked to fill their managerial vacancy.

As for a player of the season vote this season, which the website usually as already organised, published and getting plenty of votes by this time of the season, this time we will not be running one, as not a single player deserves to be crowned "Player of the Season 2007/2008" after they have also disappointed and must take some blame for the display and performances this season.

Ritchie split no surprise to Murphy

Although many talk of the news coming out of Huddersfield Town today a surprise, it does not do so for this website who have been calling for this for several weeks now. It also does not come as a surprise to caretaker manager Gerry Murphy who is the clubs Director of Football Development.

Murphy who will oversee Doncaster's home game this evening (Saturday's opponents at home), as pointed to the worrying number of season ticket holders saying away from home matches, as the team failed to impress or entertain. The results and performances have not been good enough.

Murphy will look to pave the way for improvements by using his second spell as caretaker to entertain the crowd starting with the derby match on Saturday. The football development director as confirmed, like last time, he will not apply for the first team manager role.
