Broadbent on the shortlist for award! Young Town player Daniel Broadbent is on the League One The Football League Awards for the Nivea for Men Apprentice Award. His rivals are Alex Dyer (Northampton Town) and Walsall's Thomas Schwarz. The winner will be announced during the annual awards at The London Hilton this Sunday (March 2, 2008). The club are also on the short list for the league's family club of the year. The striker has featured in one league match this season (coming off the bench against ?) and the 17 year old (he is 18 on Sunday) has been capped at under 16 level for England and the club hope that the promising youngster can eventually make the grade at first team level. - Schofield wants move He's the longest serving player on the books at Town in a single spell and arguably one of out most talented players but winger Danny Schofield has today told Andy Ritchie and his management team that he wants a move away from Huddersfield Town. Schofield was brought to the club in October 1997 by Brian Horton from Brodsworth and despite his talents, he has never really fulfilled his potential with fans regarding the number 11 shirt holder as hit and miss. There were rumours early in the season that Schofield was going to move back to South Yorkshire and join League One Rivals Doncaster Rovers. In 203 league appearances he has scored 38 times and although no official transfer request as been submitted by the 27 year old Ritchie who is targeting 10 wins from now until the end of the season to make the play-off's has circulated his name. After nine years with the Terriers the winger who features in "The Fans Favourite" book is looking for a new challenge. More on this story as it develops. - Fun Day Saturday! Saturday promises to be an afternoon of fun for all the family as the Terriers look to get back to winning ways with victory over leaders Swansea City. With the South Wales club expecting to bring around 3,000 supporters to West Yorkshire looking to extend their lead at the top of the table and on St David's Day (the Patron Saint of Wales), Town will be looking for a good turn out of home support, as Andy Ricthie's side look to complete a double over The Swans. After a disappointing turn out for the last home match - the lowest ever at the Galpharm Stadium, the off the field management are hoping that face painting, a schools football match and a opera singer can help tempt the apathetic Town fans back to the Galpharm with the distinct message passed from the top down to Ricthie - this is a match Town must win. After last week's atrocious performance in the away defeat at Gillingham, Town must hope that the face painting is performed off the pitch and their are no clown performance from the team in blue and white stripes on the field. The fun day comes following Town being nominated for the family club of the division by The Football League. Town are shortlist with Northampton, Tranmere Rovers and Yeovil Town. - |

New attendance low at Galpharm! Tuesday night's attendance was the lowest ever at the Galpharm Stadium which attracted just 6,326 - the lowest since moving from Leeds Road in 1994. The match last month with Bournemouth pulled in just 7,359 which was the third lowest attendance at Town's new home. This is not the right direction for the board to have considering it's plans to turn Town into a top 30 club by next season and the club will seriously need to market new incentives to get the fans into the stadium for the less glamorous ties. Ticket prices, arctic weather conditions, opponent and general apathy from disappointed Town fans all played a part, but at the end of the day wages and bills need to paid irrespective of the turn out of the clubs supporters. - |

Peter Jackson diagnosed with cancer There is sad news today with news that former Town manager and club captain Peter Jackson has been diagnosed with cancer of the throat. Popular 'Jacko' is currently manager of Lincoln City but will relinquish control of the Imps for the next few months, as he undergoes a period of radiotherapy. The site would like to wish Jacko and his family all the best and wish him a speedy recovery as he begins his treatment next month. Jackson always passionate has a player for the club and in his two spells as manager took over at Sincil Bank in October 2007 with the Imps languishing at the bottom of League One. He has since led them to safety in 16th place. Former Terriers striker Iffy Onuroa will take temporary charge alongside Grant Brown. Jackson managed the Terriers over two spells (10/97 to 05/99 and 06/03 to 03/07) leading Town from the brink of financial ruin to a play off final success in May 2004. During his first spell in charge he led Town away from relegation in what became known as "The Great Escape", and was harshly sacked when new owners took over at Town. During his managerial Town won 112 games of 292, drawing 79 and losing 99. He will always be remembered as the manager who helped instil the pride back into Town with phrases such as "Keep the faith" and "Be proud and honoured to wear this shirt" after almost going out of existence. The 46 year old was born in Bradford on April 6th 1961 and played 155 times for the Terriers scoring 3 goals. He also played for Bradford (twice) and Newcastle United in a distinguished playing career. Although he won no playing honours with Town, has a player with Bradford he secured promotion twice, and was Chester City's player of the season in 1995-1996 the team he joined when released by Town in 1994. His passion and dedication to the club will always be remembered and helped build a rapport with the club that was at times simply breathtaking. And who knows "Jacko, Jacko, Jacko" might just reverberate around Stamford Bridge on Saturday afternoon from 6,000 Town fans. With Jackson has manager, Town fans were left with many lifetime memories, which will never be forgotten, nor will his inspirational approach to delivering for the club. Get well soon Jacko!

Whose record will go tomorrow night? Will Huddersfield Town's plans to produce five successive clean sheets for the first time since 1982 be shattered or will the winning run's at home be broken for tomorrow evening's hosts Carlisle United. With both clubs in good form, the Tuesday night visit to Brunton Park is an exciting encounter as the Terriers look to maintain their winning run and successive clean sheets. For United they are hoping to create a proud piece of history by breaking club record of successive home wins (it stands at nine) and will be looking to prevent Town getting the kind of start they enjoyed on Saturday when Phil Jevons scored the only goal of the match after 43 seconds. Although Carlisle is a tough place to visit, Andy Ritchie is taking his side full of confidence and looking to end the home side's run by returning to West Yorkshire with all three points. He will also be looking to restrict the chances for Carlisle like they did to Swindon Town on Saturday when the Robins had just one shot on target. Town's good recent form will be tested highly tomorrow evening against a side that impressed at the Galpharm Stadium earlier this season and ran out comfortable 2-0 winners. United have lost just once at home all season, so Ritchie's side is up for a tough test against John Ward's Cumbrian outfit. With players such as Joe Garner, Cleveland Taylor and the impressive Keiren Westwood in their side Town will need to be at their best to prevent an away defeat against a side that have previously topped the League One table. It also marks the return to Carlisle United of current Town goalkeeper Matthew Glennon who played 130 times for the Cumbrians. Town fans are reminded that tickets are not on sale tomorrow, but pay on the gate (at £2 per seat more) is available for this match. The current home shirt is available at a discount price of £24.99 and if purchased this week will qualify for a free limited edition "Terriers on Tour" t shirt showing all the cup victories this season on the back and the crest on the front. Great for the 6,126 travelling to Stamford Bridge on Saturday where the club is urging Town fans to make some noise and show their colours. - New Legends coming soon... Keep checking the site over the coming week for the latest addition to our popular Legends feature. A formidable centre-half and former captain of the club he amassed 356 appearances for the Leeds Road club (332 in the league) making him one of the Terriers leading appearance makers. This popular defender during his Leeds Road days (1955-1971) is justifiably including in the "The Fans Favourite" book produced by the club in 2006. We are delighted that this former famous name, as given this website the honour of featuring in our Legends feature. Who is he? Find out soon, as Legends returns to thisisthebarmyarmy.co.uk ... - |

Jevo goal seals Town three points! Match Result | Huddersfield Town 1-0 Swindon Town | League One | Galpharm Stadium | Att: 9,388 | 09/02/2008 Huddersfield Town continued their winning run at the Galpharm Stadium this afternoon whilst ending Swindon Town's nine match unbeaten run with a single goal inside the opening minute of the match. Phil Jevons sixth goal of the season of the season was enough for Andy Ricthie's side to secure their third league win in succession which they will be looking to continue at fourth place Carlisle United on Tuesday evening. The Terriers have won the last four matches and kept clean sheet in them all, a statistic that clearly has delighted Andy Ritchie who has seen his side in those matches go from 15th in the league to 13th (now just seven points off the play off places with a game in hand) and progress to the fifth round of the FA Cup. Although it was an even match Town never had too many problems from the visitors, although Swindon could have levelled late on as Rob Page was done like a kipper. Before that Luke Beckett could have sealed the points for the Terriers midway through the second half when Beckett decided to take on a shot rather than pass to Jevons who would have had the better opportunity. But in the end this was Town's day before they embark on two long trips. The first in the league on Tuesday (to Carlisle) the second a week today to Stamford Bridge. Two points of caution were the substitutions of Jon Worthington and Michael Collins both for injuries. Match Details Huddersfield Town Subs Not Used: Smithes, Booth. Goals: Jevons (1) Swindon Town Subs Not Used: Smith, Kamyuka. Goals: None Attendance Referee - Swindon focus! Although many eyes and thoughts are on the trip to Chelsea next Saturday manager Andy Ritchie wants the same type of support to attend the Galpharm Stadium this afternoon for the important League One match with Morris Malpas Swindon Town side. Siting above the Terriers in the table (placed 10th) Swindon who have had their off the field difficulties this season will be a tough proposition and Richtie is wanting the fans to show the same support as what as been shown during the week when over 6,000 tickets have been sold for the FA Cup tie next week. A victory this afternoon for the Terriers (their third on the trot in the league and the fourth in all competitions) could see them rise to as high as 10th in the league table, a rise of six places. Swindon who are always a tough side will be visiting the Galpharm full of confidence despite one of their independent fan site's backing the Terriers to secure victory over the Robins. Under Andrew Fritton's helm the West Country side have been brought back from the brink of collapse to sit on the brink of a play off place. With Ritchie's plea for fans to back the Terriers in the league and make a noisy atmosphere in the stadium, this could prove to be a very good match to attend as Huddersfield look to build on a 16th place in the league. Both Chris Brandon (suspension) and Andy Booth (injury) are back for the Terriers and available for selection. - |

"Sold Out" signs at Galpharm! There are no more tickets left for the Fifth Round FA Cup visit to Chelsea with the final 200 selling out on the first day of general sale. Town have sold 6,126 tickets for the match in just three days, a truly remarkable feat for any club. Indeed the ticket sales for the cup tie have shown just what could be at Town if they can get it right on the pitch. It is situations like this that makes you stand up and be proud to be associated with this great club, and it is times like this you stand back and realise just how big a club Huddersfield Town really is. It's feels even more special when the Blue and White Terriers army took the same number of supporters to Stamford Bridge in January 2006 when Town narrowly lost 2-1 in front of a crowd of 41,650. The following on February 16th is one of the biggest travelling support in recent years (excluding the last visit to Chelsea) as Town fans back the Terriers in this stage of the FA Cup for the first time since the 1998/1999 season. The sold out message echoes those of the last round when Town took 4,600 to Boundary Park when Andy Ritchie's side won 1-0. That afternoon the Town fans backed the players with passionate support which really spurred on the players, it must be yet more terrific news for them to know that they will have a huge Huddersfield contingent rocking 'The Bridge' to the tunes of the Town! Other sizeable away following: 5,087 (Leeds United, 2004), 4,986 (Blackburn Rovers, 2005), 4,449 (Bradford City, 2005) and 3,572 (Sheffield Wednesday, 2004). - Travel to Chelsea by Train! Terriers fans flock for cup tickets On the first day of sale the FA Cup Fifth Round tickets for the match at Stamford Bridge on February 16th 2008 have already sold a mammoth 33% of total tickets. Town have been given just over 6,100 for the match in London with 2,000 been snapped up on opening day. Such is the desire of the supporters to back the Terriers in the cup many will be left disappointed as it is very likely many fans will miss out on tickets. Indeed upwards of 2,000 supporters missed out on tickets for the fourth round match at Oldham Athletic. - Page in team of the week! After yet another commanding performance in Town colours new recruit Robert Page has featured in the League's "Team of the Week" at centre back. The Welshman was in commanding fashion as his Town side won their third match on the trot keeping a third clean sheet in the process, at Yeovil (2-0). Goals from Luke Beckett (penalty) and Michael Collins grabbed Town all three points at Huish Park in a match they totally dominated and deserved to win. - |
