It's Chelsea (away) in the Fifth round of the FA Cup The reward for Saturday's victory at Oldham in the FA Cup is a trip to holder's Chelsea in the next stage of the competition. Town who played the Blues in the third round two years ago will be aiming to produce the performance of their lives to create one of the biggest cup upsets in the history of the club. Town's number three ball was the final ball to be drawn in this afternoon's Fifth Round draw conducted by Ray Wilkins and Jimmy Case and although Town are now ranked outsiders for the FA Cup title (Chelsea are now favourites) the players including former Blues Frank Sinclair will be excited at the prospect of playing at Stamford Bridge. The Terriers who sold all their allocation of tickets for the fourth round tie at Boundary Park, will hope to take a similar support level to the one that travelled to London in January 2006 when Town took over 6,000 supporters. More news on the date of the fixture and ticket news to follow. The tie is to be played on the weekend of 16/17 of February. Town's progression in the cup will result in a change of fixture for the Brighton match set to have been played on February 16 at home. Before this match Town have a number of important league fixtures and they must start picking up victories in the league including one from tomorrow's match with Bournemouth at the Galpharm - when Robert Page is expected to make his home debut. - Football Fanzine Awards 2007/2008 The Football Fanzine website awards for this season are beckoning and they want supporters from up and down the country including Town fans to give their vote in 10 different categories. Before this time from now until February 8th they have given supporters the opportunity to nominate their favourite Fanzines as they search for the best there is. These can be both printed and online. To nominate in any of the 10 categories and for more information please visit http://www.footballfanzineawards.com and click on the "Nominate Now" button. - |

Site updates Thisisthebarmyarmy.co.uk would like to announce that between January 18th and January 28th there will be no updates of the site. We would like to apologies for any inconvenience this may cause and would like to assure you that regular updates of this popular site will recommence on January 28th. Thanks for your continued support. Webmaster, thisisthebarmyarmy.co.uk - Huge travelling army at Boundary Park Expectation for the trip to Boundary Park on Saturday January 26th is huge, and with it so will the Town support. A travelling blue and white army will help swell the crowd as Town visit League One rivals Oldham Athletic in the fourth round of the FA Cup. Town's initial allocation of almost 3,000 tickets are now sold out, with the extra 1,600 requested by the Terriers. That means that it will be one of the biggest away support for Town in recent seasons. Should Town sell the extra 1,600 there would be over 4,500 travelling the short distance to Oldham. The tickets have also not appeared on general sale, and the extra 1,600 tickets will also not be available on general sale. Any remaining tickets will go on general sale on January 21st. In 2006 Town took over 6,000 supporters to Stamford Bridge, when Premier League champions Chelsea beat Peter Jackson's side 2-1, and the match at Oldham will be the biggest since that match and the third biggest away showing since 2004. - |

Brandon goal in vain as Gills down Terriers! Match Result | Huddersfield Town 1-3 Gillingham | League One | Galpharm Stadium | Att: 11,212 | 12/01/2008 After last week's stunning victory in the FA Cup Town failed to capitalise on that good feeling by surrendering a lead and losing convincingly to drop to 16th in the Coca-Cola League One table. Chris Brandon scored for the second week running on 32 minutes to give Andy Ritchie's side the lead, but a double from Gary Mulligan (the second a penalty) and a late third from former Town striker Delroy Facey - both of whom enjoy scoring against the Terriers gave Gillingham a deserved three points on their travels. It's now the third defeat in the league on the trot for Town - and in all of these they have taken the lead. The performance at the moment in the league is not good enough and they are now starting to look over their shoulder at the relegation zone rather than upwards at the play-off zone. Match Details Huddersfield Town Subs Not Used: Smithes, Skaraz, Young. Goals: Brandon (32) Gillingham Subs Not Used: Stillie, Cogan, Clohessy. Goals: Mulligan (45) & (75pen), Facey (82) Attendance Referee - Match Odds: Gillingham (home) For match odds for Saturday's match click here for the full story- |

No deal for Wallwork Terriers boss Andy Ritchie will turn his attentions to other players on his short list following news that Ronnie Wallwork has joined championship side Sheffield Wednesday. Wallwork who enjoyed a successful three month loan spell at the Terriers recently joins on a free transfer from West Bromich Albion until the end of the season. - £5 admission! Town fans are reminded that tomorrow's league match with Gillingham at the Galpharm Stadium is just £5. The club have chosen to reward the supporters with this special deal to mark the first home league match of the centenary 2008 season. Following last week's FA Cup upset the club will be hoping to attract a decent crowd as Andy Ritchie and his players look to emulate the excellent performance which saw Town dump out premiership side Birmingham City 2-1. - |

Former Town striker dies Former Huddersfield Town striker Paul Aimson has died at his Christchurch, New Zealand home aged 64 from an heart attack. Amison netted 13 times in 38 appearance for the club he represented during the years of 1968-1969 when he was brought to Leeds Road from local Rivals Bradford City. He will be most remembered for his abilities at York City where his five hat tricks during two spells helped to give him his status of a goal hero. - Jevons sign's permanently - Wallwork still being tracked Striker Phil Jevons has today converted his loan move at Town into a permanent deal in a reported £100,000 deal which could double dependant on the clauses in the contract. The 28 year old moves to the Terriers from Bristol City in a deal which will keep him at the Galpharm Stadium until 2010. Jevons has scored five goals so far in his Town career and will be hoping that now he is permanent he can extend on that number from now until the end of the season. Jevons most success came whilst playing for Yeovil Town and he is a player that Andy Ritchie has tracked for sometime. Click here to view the career stats of Phil Jevons Other transfer news is that West Brom midfielder Ronnie Wallwork is still being tracked by the Terriers. Wallwork returned to the Baggies recently having completed his 3 month maximum loan term but Andy Ritchie is still talking with West Brom regarding a permanent deal for the former Manchester United player who impressed during his loan period. However the ball is well and truly in West Brom's and Wallwork's court now, and Town have given the impression that they will not continue to push for a deal and will continue to seek players elsewhere. - Oldham FA Cup ticket news Huddersfield Town face League One rivals Oldham Athletic in the fourth round of the FA Cup at Boundary Park on Saturday January 26th and the ticket prices will be as follows: Adults: £18 Tickets go on sale initially with conditions (please see here) on Saturday January 12th at 09:00 the date of the home match with Gillingham in League One.It is understood that the club have been given 3,000 tickets which could rise to 4,000. - Milwall (home) rearranged The postponed home league match with Milwall due to have been played on January 26th will now take place on the evening of Tuesday February 19th with a 19:45 kick off. FA Cup draw Huddersfield Town will travel to fellow League One side Oldham Athletic on either the 26th or 27th of January for the fourth round of the FA Cup. That means that the home league match with Milwall scheduled for the 26th will now be rearranged. The Terriers ball number 18 was the sixth out of the draw made by Alan Cork and John Aldridge at 13:30 this afternoon and pits the two giant-killers from round three together. As Town beat Birmingham City on Saturday the Latics put out Everton at Goodison Park. It means a return to Boundary Park for former Oldham player and manager Andy Ritchie and striker Luke Beckett. FA Cup fourth round draw The draw for the fourth round of the FA Cup will take place on Monday at 13:30. After the excellent victory yesterday Town will be looking towards a favourable tie to continue their cup quest. They made the 5th round in the 1998/1999 season when they were denied through a replay to Derby County. Battling Terriers produce cup shock as Blues downed at Galpharm! Match Result | Huddersfield Town 2-1 Birmingham City | FA Cup 3 | Galpharm Stadium | Att: 13,410 | 05/01/2008 The Terriers progress into the fourth round of the FA Cup with a battling and well-deserved 2-1 victory against Premier League opposition who never had a look in despite an equaliser on 19 minutes. Town took the match from the start to Birmingham City and grabbed the early initiative with Luke Beckett scoring his 7th goal of the season on just four minutes. In what was a cup upset and one of the best performances of the season Town never allowed the visitors to settle, as Town for once this season excelled in almost every department of the pitch despite a number of changes to the line up through injury and suspension - which included Michael Collins in defence and a debut to 18 year old James Berrettin a five man midfield. Danny Schofield drove into the Blues box, and his shot was parried by Maik Taylor who saw Beckett the first to react to slot the ball home. Beckett's energy was causing the visiting defence all kinds of problems and two minutes after his goal he forced a corner when looking dangerous. The goal had clearly shook the Blues and it was Town who were making all the progress in the match. The Blues were on level terms on 24 minutes later through Gary O'Connor. A quick break from a Town corner was the first and really only piece of premiership class shown by Birmingham throughout the match. The impressive Daniel De Rigger fed Fabrice Muamba whose strong run (holding off Robbie Williams, who was substituted at half time, as he was not match fit) at the Town defence saw his shot saved by Matthew Glennon, only for O'Connor to tap in the goal. Nine minutes later and Birmingham City thought that they had turned the game on its head. The Premier League side by this time was beginning to take the edge on the game and was getting more confident going forward. Again left winger De Rigger was part of the build up play but Scottish striker O'Connor's 'goal' was ruled out for offside. With the Town fans baying them on it was Town had chances to take the lead but found Taylor in inspired form, the Terriers were also kept going throughout the match at a terrific pace with the defence and Glennon making easy work of anything the Premier League side could through at them. Scores remained level and a replay at St Andrews was on the cards until the 81st minute when the lively Chris Brandon restored the Terriers lead. Brandon who was brought into the starting line up for injury and suspension hit Town gave the Terriers the lead. Schofield impressive throughout fed the ball to Beckett in space and the striker made no mistakes with an inch prefect cross which found Brandon in space. He lashed the ball home after great work from the lively Danny Schofield to send the 10,000 home fans in an attendance of 13,410 into raptures. Beckett, Schofield and Brandon deserved the plaudits from this game, with Beckett deservedly man of the match - ironic to think he would have been on the bench had Phil Jevons being fully fit to start or Andy Booth had not been out injured! James Berrett also did well for a young player who is only 18. He looked sharp and hungry with the ball and his performance will have made boss Andy Ritchie have a number of selection headaches for next Saturday's match with Gillingham at the Galpharm. The final whistle ensured a big cheer from the home contingent, and disbelief from the travelling 2,300 Birmingham City supporters and the "Smile Awhile" anthem played, seemed sweeter than ever before this season. Huddersfield Town in the fourth round of the FA Cup now there's a nice ring to that and something not said for many a season. Indeed it is nine long years since Town last progressed past this stage of the FA Cup. A shock result for the League One side and in their centenary season, the 1922 FA Cup winners progress. The only real gripe is if they can do this in the cup, why is the side not showing this tenacity in the league - that is a question that not only needs asking, but answering on the pitch - a question manager Andy Ritchie has said will be asked - the Terriers need to play like that week in week out and start rising up the League One table, starting with Gillingham a week today. Match Details Huddersfield Town Subs Not Used: Smithes, Young, Killock. Goals: Beckett (4), Brandon (81) Birmingham City Subs Not Used: Saler, Parnaby, Mutch. Goals: O'Connor (19) Attendance Referee Match Highlights 90 +3 mins: Glennon gives away the corner kick, but then catches the corner and that's the final action, as the referee blows this whistle and the proud Town anthem "Smile Awhile" plays out loud at the Galpharm Stadium. 90 mins: 3 minutes of added time will be played. Town looking to progress to the fourth round have shut out City so well this afternoon in the first home match of the centenary season. City have shown nothing, as Town have harried and bullied them for every single goal. If the result remains like this, Town will maintain their unbeaten home record in the FA Cup against Birmingham City. 86 mins: A Birmingham corner is headed over Glennon's bar by Jaidi has the Scottish management duo for Birmingham City attempts to get the Blues what is looking like an unlikely equaliser. All the noise is coming from the Town fans, but Town are defending deep with minutes of this contest to go. "Who to be a, Who to be a Terrier..." is ringing around the Galpharm Stadium as a real cup shock is on the cards and sweet revenge for six years ago. 81 mins: Recalled to the starting line-up and a goal for Chris Brandon gives the Terriers the lead for the second time, driving the ball home following yet another great run by Danny Schofield. Schofield fed Beckett in the clear who put in a perfect cross which found Brandon in space and he made no mistake slotting home. A deserved goal for the Terriers with just 9 minutes left. What a slight revenge mission for six years ago when the Blues relegated the Terriers with a 2-1 victory. The vociferous Town fans are delighted again who have given the depleted Town side great support. First taste of FA Cup action for the Birmingham boss Alex McLeish who will have known his Premier League have been in a tough encounter this afternoon. Great battling performance from Town this one. 78 mins: Kamara is substituted for Phil Jevons to enter the contest meaning the Terriers will go 4-4-1-1 with Jevons playing just behind lone striker Luke Beckett. Andy Ritchie has shown his intentions to go for a second goal here, although a draw would be a credible result. 77 mins: A third Birmingham player is booked. Radhi Jaidi is the player booked for a foul Malvin Kamara. 76 mins: James Berrett is booked for a foul on Larsson. 74 mins. A melee between a number of players from either side leads to Liam Ridgewell becoming the latest player to be booked in this one following a foul by Town's Malvin Kamara who has caused City issues all afternoon. It's 1-1 in goals and 2-2 in the number of yellow cards shown by referee Steve Tanner. Liam Ridgewell and Franck Queudrue for City, and Chris Brandon and Joe Skarz for Town. 71 mins: With the Premier League turning up the heat on Town who are having more of the defending to perform now, see substitute Joe Skarz booked for a foul on Liam Ridgewell. 61 mins: Cameron Jerome is brought on by Birmingham City boss Alex McLeish to a chorus of boo's from the homeside following his comments in the press during the week. He replaces Mikal Forssell. 49 mins: With Town playing the better football and forcing Birmingham City into mistakes begin to command the forward play again with Schofield, Brandon and Beckett all causing problems for the Premier League defenders. Another good move is ended as Beckett is judged off side. 46 mins: Robbie Willams has been replaced by Joe Skarz at left-back. Williams was a doubt before the match and has not reappeared for the second half. Skarz is the sixth academy product to play in today's match. Glennon easily saves the first effort of the second period as the visitors have the first shot through Gary O'Connor. Half-Time: Huddersfield Town 1-1 Birmingham City - first half statistics Huddersfield Town Goals: Beckett (4) Birmingham City Goals: O'Connor (19) 34 mins: Franck Queudrue is the second player to be booked by referee Tanner the first City player to be cautioned. From the resulting freekick Brandon almost scores a second for Town but Taylor keeps him out. 33 mins: Another excellent chance for the Terriers but Taylor keep's the scores level with a fine save. 29 mins: Chris Brandon is booked for a foul on Muamba. Seconds later Malvin Kamara broke well for Terriers and the Terriers could have almost scored. The Terriers are playing some good stuff and commanding the midfield against a strong Birmingham side. 24 mins: Gary O'Connor thought he had put the Blues into the lead, but the 'goal' is ruled offside by the referee's assistant - the game is now scrappier and Birmingham City are looking the more dangerous in offence. 19 mins: A poor Town corner leads to Birmingham City's Gary O'Connor putting the scores level. Matt Glennon had during the build up to the City goal made an excellent save. 4 mins: After just 4 minutes the Town fans are sent into raptures as Luke Beckett give the Terriers the early lead on a cold West Yorkshire afternoon. A fine run by Danny Schofield who saw his shot parried by Maik Taylor and the ball fell nicely for Beckett for the Terriers. Beckett has now scored in every round of the FA Cup so far this season. So they may be injury hit but the Town players are up for this match. BBC football pundit's Mark Lawrenson score verdict of 1-0 to Birmingham as already been blown out of the water by this early Town goal. - The teams for the FA Cup third round tie Here are the way the sides line up for the FA Cup tie between Town and Birmingham City at the Galpharm Stadium. Town are looking to extend their unbeaten home FA Cup record against the Blues. Andy Ritchie has been forced to reshuffle the pack for the visit of the Premier League side with both Jon Worthington and Andy Booth both out through injuries. Phil Jevons is only fit enough for the bench and Nathan Clarke is suspended. Ritchie will therefore employ a 5-man midfield with Andy Holdsworth captaining the side. Luke Beckett is the lone striker for Town. Young midfielder James Berrett makes his full Town debut this afternoon. Former Town junior Cameron Jerome is on the City bench. 16 year old Jordan Mutch could become the youngest ever player to feature for the Blues should he come off the subs bench. Michael Collins will play at right back with Robbie Williams passed fit playing on the other flank. The referee is top flight referee Steve Tanner from Somerset. Huddersfield Town Glennon, Sinclair, Mirfin, Berrett, Williams, Kamara, Holdsworth (c), Collins, Brandon, Beckett, Schofield. Subs: Smithes, Skarz, Jevons, Young, Killock. Birmingham City Taylor, Kelly, Queudrue, Ridgewell, Jaidi, McSheffrey, Muamba, De Ridder, Larsson, O'Connor, Forssell. Subs: Doyle, Saler, Jerome, Parnaby, Mutch. To listen to the match live through BBC 5 Live click here. Chris Waddle and John Murray are the radio commentators for BBC 5 Live. For BBC text commentary click here. The match is also a main highlight affair on BBC's Match of the Day later this evening (BBC 1 22:45).- Five figure crowd expected! The Galpharm Stadium is expecting it's highest crowd of the season later today for the visit of Premier League side Birmingham City in the FA Cup. With the visitors on Saturday sitting 42 places higher than Town this will be a difficult contest against the Premier League's 16th placed side. Town have not progressed past this stage since the 1998/1999 season when they lost in a fifth round reply at Derby County (the season City lost 4-2 at Leicester at the third round stage). A crowd in the region of 12,500 is expected for the third round tie which Town boss Andy Ritchie is calling a "big challenge" and City boss Alex McLeish expecting to field a strong side. The 12,500 crowd will easily eclipse the current highest attendance of 10,994 (against Nottingham Forest in October), but will somewhat miss the stadium highest of 23,678 for the third round visit of Liverpool in December 1999. The attendance will be almost double that of last season first round loss to Blackpool which attracted 6,597 and that of the second round match this season against Grimsby Town (6,729). Indeed since the Liverpool match no FA Cup match played in Huddersfield as attracted a 5-figure crowd. Birmingham's visit to the Galpharm is the first a top flight has made in competitive competition to the Galpharm since the visit of Liverpool and advanced ticket sales already top the 10,000 mark. The last time the blues visited Huddersfield was the final match of the 2000/2001 season when the Blues won 2-1 to send the Terriers down. Supporters can pay on the day with the visitors bringing in the region of 2,500 supporters with them. Both side's form going into the match is far from great. Town have lost their last two matches in the league and only won 4 of their last 10 matches including the second round success against Grimsby Town. Birmingham have lost their last 3 matches away from St Andrews with their a 1-0 defeat at Manchester United - a former playing side for Andy Ritchie. City's recent performance best finish in the FA Cup was a quarter final exit in 2006 when they lost 7-0 at home to Liverpool. In that season they required a third round replay to knock out Torquay. Last season Reading stopped their progress with a 3-2 win in the Midlands in the fourth round after the Blues had beaten Newcastle United in the third round again via a replay.
