Carlisle or Grimsby in FA Cup round 2!

Huddersfield Town will face either League One rivals and leaders Carlisle United or League Two side Grimsby Town at the Galpharm Stadium after securing a comabck win at Accrington Stanley in the cup.

In what is only Town (the 1921/1922 winners) 4 wins in the competition since 1999/2000 will be hoping to emulate the success of the 2005/2006 season when victories in the first and second round tie brought a third round trip to then premiership champions Chelsea.

The FA Cup as far from been a happy hunting ground for the Terriers in the last seven seasons. In that time period the Terriers have faced 11 cup ties (6 first round matches, 2 second round matches and 3 third round matches) and secured a none so pleasant record.

Indeed Saturday's victory was the first victory against a league side in the FA Cup. The other three were against Gravesend and Northfleet (now Ebbsfleet) in 2001 (first round), and Welling United (first round) and Worcester City (second round) in 2005/2006.

Either tie will be a difficult tie for Andy Ritchie's side, with both sides having already enjoyed success over Town who are not the best in any cup competitions in recent seasons. Carlisle beat Town 2-0 at the Galpharm in the league (25/8) whilst a trip to Grimsby in the JPT first round ended with the home side hammering Town 4-1.

Town fight back stuns Stanley as Terriers progress in FA Cup

Match Result | Accrington 2-3 Huddersfield Town | FA Cup 1 | Fraser Eagle Stadium | Att: 8,555 | 03/11/2007

A great escape prevented further Town cup blushes this season, as they fought back to beat League Two Accrington Stanley 3-2 at the venue they went out in the same competition four years ago.

Despite the one division difference Stanley raced into a 2-0 lead through a Peter Cavanagh stunner and a Paul Mullin effort. But a Malvin Kamara striker in first half injury time, brought Town back into the game. Cavanagh had the opportunity to re-establish Accrington's two goal lead early in the second half but this time saw his free kick sail over Matt Glennon's bar.

Town took some control of the match but it took until the 83rd minute to bring parity to the scoreline. Kamara smashed the Terriers level with a fine strike. The travelling Town supporters, who had got soaked by the constant rain roared their team into the second round as substitute Luke Beckett sneaked in to give Town the lead.

Karama almost secured a late third goal which would have capped off a fine individual performance, but saw his latest fine strike fizz just wide.
