News Updates

Chairman offers fans apology!

Having seen the Terriers again well beaten on their travels at Tranmere Rovers last Friday night, chairmen Ken Davy issued a personal apology to all fans including the long suffering away support for the recent performances.

With the latest defeat at Tranmere, Town have lost their last four away league matches conceding 12 goals and failing to score any. Indeed their last away goals came at Millwall when the Terriers came away with a 2-1 victory way back on September 1st. At that point Town sat well placed in the league table in 4th position, they have since slipped to 17th.

The personal apology from the chairman coming after the off field tussle with the club's ownership with Adam Pearson (who has since become chairman at Premier League side Derby County) could be the first indication that Davy is starting to put pressure on manager Andy Ritchie who remember only has a two year contract.

Surely if the results continue, Davy would have little choice or little option than to look at the position of Ritchie as manager of Huddersfield Town.

FA Cup Draw

The Terriers will travel to Accrington Stanley to play in the first round of the FA Cup. Town who were numbered 21 in the first round proper draw were the 14th side to be drawn out of the 'hat' in what is a repeat of the 2003 first round match in the same competition, and venue which Stanley (a then non-league side) defeated Peter Jackson's side 1-0.

The match will take place during the weekend of November 9th. Stanley play at the Interlink Express Stadium which as a capacity of 5,057.

Squad update!

Ronnie Wallwork has seen his loan from West Brom extended by Town for a further month. The combative midfield general has done enough to impress manager Andy Ritchie to offer him a further month at the club.

Having made 10 appearances in the blue and white of the Terriers, Irish defender Richard Keogh has left the club and returned to Bristol City. Keogh's loan deal was not extended due to the Terriers defensive injuries easing.

Jacko is back in business!

thisisthebarmyarmy.co.uk is delighted that former Town manager Peter Jackson is back in football management. Jacko has taken up the helm of League Two's bottom club Lincoln City in a two year deal.

We wish Peter all the best at Lincoln.

Pearson abandons bid to take control at Town

Former Hull City chairman Adam Pearson has failed in his attempt to take control of Huddersfield Town and has now abandoned plans to takeover the Galpharm club.

Pearson offer to buy the club was knocked back by current chairman and owner Ken Davy, with Davy offering Pearson the offer of a 40% share and chairmanship of the Terriers. Pearson who is alleged to have offered in the region of £3 million declined that offer and although kept his offer on the table, has now removed it.

Pearson has called it "great regret" that he has to move away from Huddersfield Town, as he has failed yet again in his attempts to get back into football management. The businessman born in Batley will now look elsewhere.

Disappointing news for Town fans who wanted Adam Pearson to take over the club and with news of a silent protest planned for this afternoon's match at home to Oldham Athletic, the Terriers could be heading for one crisis after another.

Outclassed Town lose again on their travels

Match Result | Doncaster Rovers 2-0 Huddersfield Town | League 1 | Keepmoat Stadium | Att: 6,886 | 14/10/2007

Disappointing Town once again proved ineffective in SKY televised matches as they went down easily to Doncaster Rovers by two goals to nil. For the fourth consecutive away match Town failed to score, indeed failed to look like scoring in a match dominated the home side who played some lovely football.

Rovers never looked back having taken a deserved lead on 13 minutes and although Town attempted to rally late in the first half, and should have had a penalty when Danny Cadamateri was bundled over in the area by Matthew Mill. But in all honesty the Terriers never looked in the match in which a change of formation before kick off to match Rovers 3-5-2 failed drastically to come off.

The home side sealed the three points with a 65 minute strike from Mark Wilson, which as with the first the Town defence should have done better with. Doncaster could, maybe should, have had more goals but Matt Glennon pulled off a number of saves, and Joe Skarz prevented a late third with a fine block.

Town's first effort on target came on 73 minutes when substitute Danny Schofield with his first shot tested Rovers 'keeper Neil Sullivan. Town striker Luke Beckett saw a sharp header tipped over, but the referee's assistant had flagged for an offence.

Town boss Andy Ritchie looked totally despondent at the final whistle, and he must be searching the inner depths of his soul to find an away goal for the Terriers.

A decent performance at the moment would do, a goal would be better and how about a point on the travels? The last four away matches have ended in heavy defeats since the visit to Grimsby Town in the Johnstone's Paint Trophy which Town lost 4-1. Since then in the league they have lost at Crewe (0-2), Northampton (0-3), Walsall (0-4) and now Doncaster (0-2).

Those stats are simply not good enough and when added to the two home defeats Carlisle (0-2) and Cheltenham Town (2-3).

The next few away matches do not get any better for Town. With trips to high flying Tranmere, Swansea City, Southend and Leeds to come added to that home matches with high placed Hartlepool United and Leyton Orient during the same time period, come Christmas the table might read the 'only way is up' for Town.

Improvements required on the pitch please Ritchie or could it be a matter that Town are just not getting the rub of the green at the moment? Surely if the referee had given Town the penalty appeal in the first half, and Town had scored to level matters at 1-1 the second half would have been a totally different proposition - or is that simply wishful thinking?!

Pearson declines partnership offer

The prospective buyer of Huddersfield Town Adam Pearson has declined Ken Davy's offer of becoming a minority shareholder and chairman of Huddersfield Town but insists that his offer to buy the football club fully remains on the table.

Pearson a Town fan, wants a controlling interest, and questioned the seriousness of the £3.2 million 40% shareholding deal proposed by Davy. The former Hull City chairman will be at Doncaster on Sunday for Town's League One match has said that his offer was a very generous offer and that is "his best offer".

With Town fans continuing to be disheartened with the current season and following the 4-0 inept drubbing at Walsall last weekend. They could use the televised match at the Keepmoat Stadium (Sunday 16:00 kick off) to show their disappointed at the news that Pearson will not join in a partnership with Davey in a bid to attempt to change Davy's mind.

Pearson said he would have to be "incredibly naive" to have accepted Davy's offer of a boardroom partnership at the Galpharm Stadium and although his offer will remain on the table, it is for how long will it remain on it with the Batley born businessman keen to return to football.

Davy has said that the offer put to Pearson would have given him a 40% share in the club, with any additional injection of money into the football club spilt 60% Davy, 40% Pearson. Pearson wants the whole club and is even willing to pay rent to Davy for use of the Galpharm - so just where the £5 million Town got for Leeds Road as gone who knows?!

Perhaps selling the club fully would reveal potential issues with the finances, and how certain element of the current set-up is been run?

There appears to be yet more questions, than the answers which are forthcoming, one thing is for sure, something needs to be done on the pitch, and if that is new investment off it, then so be it. The Pearson offer would be very exciting and take Town forward, without it what is Davy going to do to match that enthusiasm and desire. The desire for the club to be a top 30 one by 2008, seems to be drifting ever so far away now.

Or is it a matter that Davy would sell the club - he has indicated this previously, if the right offer was tabled - but is waiting out for more money? Or is it to be fair to Ken Davy, the offer Adam Pearson has tabled just is not good enough for a full takeover, one thing for sure it is all starting to get very messy.
