Scotland spurned Town approach Andy Ritchie has today revealed that Swansea City's new striker Jason Scotland was approached by Town to join the Terriers. The former St Johnstone hitman who has been in prolific scoring form in Scotland this season was tracked by a number of teams but it is Swansea who have signed the striker who has scored 33 goals in 66 appearances. Town made an offer for the Trinidad and Tobago International but Ritchie revealed that his agent did not come back to Town before hearing of Scotland's move to South Wales for a nominal fee. Ritchie will continue his search for players that includes a defender, one or two wingers and a striker with pace and power. - Welcome 888.com Continuing our summer of The Shop 'signings' thisisthebarmyarmy.co.uk is delighted to announce that 888.com as become a online betting and gaming partner. 888.com renowned as being "The World's Number One Online Casino and Poker room" joins a growing list of betting and gaming partners. Season Odd's Who are favourites to lift the League One title in 2007/2008 and where does Huddersfield Town sit in the bookmakers confidence of teams to do well? Click here and find out. - League One composition fully confirmed! With the competition of two of the three play-off matches have confirmed the make up of Coca-Cola League One next season and with it putting two visits to the South West back on the schedule for the Terriers. Having lost the trip to Bristol with the automatic promotion of Bristol City a trip back to the former port city is back with the play off victory for Bristol Rovers in League Two. Town will make a first trip to the Memorial Stadium (if before December - as the Memorial Stadium is to undergo major redevelopment from December) after the Pirates 3-1 success over Shrewsbury Town on Saturday. 24 hours later and Rovers South West neighbours Yeovil Town lost in the League Two play off final at the New Wembley 2-0 against Blackpool. Blackpool played on-loan Town goalkeeper Paul Rachbuka for the entire 90 minutes as two stunning goals prevented Russell Slade's side from promotion and continued the Seasiders amazing end of season wining streak. It is very likely that on-loan midfielder Chris Brandon will be returning to Huddersfield having not featured in any of the play-off matches for Blackpool as with a year left on his contract the two clubs would need to strike a deal. Rachbuka who is out of contract will not be given a new contract with Town and will be hoping his six-month loan spell in Lancashire will result in a contract with the Championship bound club. Kuffour not interested! Brentford star striker Jo Kuffour has told Andy Ricthie he is not interested in a move North after the Town manager enquired to make Kuffour his second signing. The striker scored 14 goals last season which were not enough to keep the London club in League One, three of those came against Town. The Bees striker wants to move either into the Championship or around the London area. Kuffour is the type of striker Ritchie is looking for power and pace - again Wycombe's Jermaine Easter or MK Dons Izale McLeod would fit that bill perfectly. In other Town news, two additional sponsors will feature on the kit of the Terriers. Dual Seal Glass will feature on the back of the shirt (above the players name) whilst recruitment partner Stafflex will up it's sponsorship to feature on the back of the shorts. Dual Seal is a two year deal, Stafflex a one year. - Bet with thisisthebarmyarmy.co.uk partners on this season's FA Cup It's the climax of the domestic season tomorrow with the FA Cup Final - the first at the new Wembley stadium between Chelsea and Premiership Champions Manchester United. Town set for first 'summer' signing! Former Chelsea defender Frank Sinclair is set to sign the one year deal Town have offered him following his release from Burnley at the end of the season. Sinclair has impressed Town manager Andy Ritchie during his loan period would become the first of what is hoped to be many in what is poised to be an exciting post season period. The former Jamaican International is 35 years old but still shows the power and versatility, which would make him the ideal candidate for the defence as Town look to vastly improve the clean sheet's in the 2007/2008 season. Sinclair can play either centre back or right back and with Ritchie moving Andy Holdsworth into midfield Sinclair's pace would be ideal for right back. Although he came in under the tenure of Peter Jackson before Jackson mutually left the Galpharm Stadium, he has continued to impress caretaker manager Gerry Murphy and new full time manager Andy Ritchie during his 13-match stint. The only low point of Sinclair's loan period was his harsh sending off at Brighton Hove Albion. - |

PLAYER OF THE SEASON ANNOUNCED! thisisthebarmyarmy.co.uk is delighted to announce our season awards for 2006/2007. For more details click here. Thanks to all those that voted. - Seven released - including McIntosh and Hudson Andy Ritchie has admitted that informing seven of the Town squad that there contracts would not be renewed was a difficult task. On the day that Town announced that 5% of season ticket sales are to new applicants, the seven players will join the list of professional footballers attempting to find new jobs in the game. Mark Hudson, Martin McIntosh, Adnan Ahmed, John McAliskey, John McCombe, James Hand and Adam Wilson have all been released by Town with Danny Racchi (1 year) and Aaron Hardy (6 months) offered new deals. There was no news of Paul Rachbuka or Frank Sinclair who was released yesterday by Championship side Burnley. Andy Ritchie has showed his delight at the performances of the former Chelsea defender so Sinclair is very likely to become a full time player of the Galpharm club. - |

Signings a priority Manager Andy Ritchie has said that signings are a priority of his having watched his Town side end the season 3-1 winners against Leyton Orient to end a largely disappointing season. Under Ritchie Town have showed glimpses of what might be in store for next season as Ritchie looks to disassemble the squad he has inherited. Ritchie is hoping for flexibility and will sit down with the board to understand what money is available for transfers with he planning to use two wingers next season - therefore a winger with pace is clearly on the shop list. - Play-off's The league one play off matches will consist of a Lancashire derby and a mouth watering David and Goliath contest. Blackpool will play Oldham Athletic and Marcus Stewart's Yeovil Town will play Nottingham Forest. Joining Town in League One next season will be Walsall, Hartlepool United and Swindon Town from League Two plus one from the play-off's. Relegation from the Championship for Leeds United serves up a mouth watering West Yorkshire derby for Town with Southend United and Luton Town also back on the fixture scheduled for next term. - All the stats - you will ever need For all the statistics from the 2006/2007 season you will ever need including all the results, final squad, final table and much more visit the History section and check out all the information you will need. Jackson who left the Terriers by mutual consent in March 2007 is the favourite to land the hot seat position with 81% backing the former professional footballer to take the job. Further pre-season matches confirmed In addition to the pre-season matches we confirmed to you on Saturday, Town have announced further first team and reserve fixtures as Andy Ritchie prepares for his first pre-season as Town manager. The players will return to the Galpharm Stadium on June 30. The full list is: 18/7 - AFC Emley (Away) - Reserves - Signings? Andy Ritchie has said that the Town squad he has inherited does not need to be completely overhauled in the summer. Although a number of players will leave to allow space for new additions, and that Ritchie was promised money when he took on the job by the Town board does intimate that new players will be joining Town in summer. Town who have Scottish born defender Martin McIntosh in talks (he is out of contract in summer) have also handed a trial to young Manchester United striker Phil Marsh, who will play in the second string at Bradford City this evening. The 20-year old will join top scorer Lucas Akins in attack as the two reserves look to finish the season positively. Marsh who has featured once for the Old Trafford based first team can also be used as a centre back and if signed will become the latest player to be connected with both the Terriers and the Red Devils. John Dungworth's side will have a youthful and inexperienced look to it with only five of those in the squad to make the short journey to Bradford having had first team experience. There will also need to be signings for Town to play the swift attacking football Ritchie likes to play, and perhaps Wycombe's Jermaine Easter could be on Ritchie's shopping list after the Choirboys have missed out on the League Two play-off's. Town have also announced brisk deals with the season ticket offers currently on the table. The ticket office at the stadium have called the response "encouraging". For more information on the Season Ticket prices click here. - April 2007 News Archived - |
