FA Cup First Round Draw! For more information on the first round draw click here - Result: Huddersfield Town (0) 0-0 (2) Brighton Hove Albion, Coca-Cola League One, Galpharm Stadium, 10,616 A Jake Robinson hat-trick for the visitors was enough to ensure another disappointing defeat for the home fans as the Terriers who could have gone third have dropped out of the play-off zone following a hugely disappointing loss. Town ended the match with 10 men following the late sending off of left back Danny Adams - the second time he has seen red! Brighton thoroughly deserved their victory as they dominated the match in every single way and their academy product Jake Robinson took his goals well to lead the goal scoring stakes for the South coast club. After the latest inept performance and the manager claiming he "cannot defend them", is it now time to start think that Peter Jackson as gone as far has he can with this set of players and that they are at the top of their game? Time will tell if there are to be any changes in personnel at the club, one thing is for sure after the Terriers appeared to have turned the corner with a decent unbeaten run, they have crashed back to a season normality with too many mistakes. With an expensive looking forward line of Abbott and Beckett and no shots on target, that is woeful and at home as well. Put simply, the players at the club are just not good enough for the so called ambition of the board and the management. They have come as far as they can and it is time Jackson et al start looking around to re-build the playing staff. On this performance Chairman Ken Davy's hopes that Town will be "top 30 club by it's centenary" on this performance that is just not going to happen. Lets hope that the players can apply themselves better next week, but with Scunthorpe United riding high and Town's previous run looking like a fluke, another disappointing home match is on the cards for the long suffering Town public. Town begin this afternoon with two home games which Jackson calls "crucial" as he looks for his players to continue their improvement in their playing ability. Two difficult matches against Brighton Hove Albion this afternoon then the visit of Scunthorpe United who hammered Town 4-1 last season at the Galpharm Stadium and have been one of the form teams this season. Jackson is confident his side can continue the recent good run and put further pressure on the sides in the automatic promotion places. Jacko not bound for the Lions Den! Millwall Chairman Stewart till has rubbished reports linking the Town manager with one of the hottest managerial seats in the country. Millwall were reported to be ready to make a swoop for Peter Jackson but Gill confirmed today that his club are not interested in Jackson. Till has moved to squash escalating rumours saying that his club have not asked Huddersfield for permission to speak with their manager. "Under normal circumstances I wouldn't comment on rumours," said Till. "However, so strong was the assertion in a couple of papers that we would be speaking to Huddersfield about their manager, I have to state quite categorically we have no intention of contacting the Yorkshire club on this matter and indeed have no interest in their manager". The London club had five managers during last season and despite reports that Town were considering the move Terriers Chairman Ken Davy moved quickly to denounce those claims. Indeed Jackson signed a three year extension to his deal at the Galpharm Stadium in the summer, and has no intentions of moving on - |

Jacko not Southern Bound? Terriers chairman Ken Davy has moved to confirm that Millwall have made no official moves to acquire the services of first team manager Peter Jackson. It comes on the back of rumours that managerless Millwall are keen to approach Jackson who has impressed Lions chairman Stewart Till. The manager position at the New Den is one of the hottest in football with the League One strugglers having had eight managers in the past 12 months. The last one Nigel Spackman lasted 10 games of this season his predecessor Steve Claridge did not even get through the close season. Davy confirmed that Town "have not received any contact" from any club regarding the manager - Fletch injury blow The West Yorkshire derby battle at Valley Parade on Saturday as cost Town their leading striker for anywhere between four and six weeks. Gary Taylor-Fletcher was replaced during the match which Town won 1-0 on 51 minutes with a knee injury. Taylor-Fletcher who has impressed this season with eight league goals in 14 matches has damaged his medial ligament in his knee. His manager Peter Jackson has confirmed that the news is a blow to the club who will not only miss his goals but also his all round play. Jackson said that the player was replaced on Saturday as a precaution hoping that the injury would not be as bad as it is. The former Lincoln City player who was ever present will now miss anything up to the next six weeks of the campaign - Club to face League enquiry? If Keith Hill the match referee does what is expected both Huddersfield Town and Bradford City will face a league enquiry following the ill-spirited derby on Saturday. Following the sending off of Town defender Danny Adams, a number of plastic bottles were tossed towards City player Nathan Doyle. Doyle received chants of "cheat" from the baying Town fans who clearly felt that the Bantam had made a meal of the tackle, something which the City player denies. To be fair to Doyle, Adams challenge was stupid when already booked but it was the foul on Dean Windass which received a booking on three minutes which was the ridiculous booking. Perhaps the fact that City are turning to sour grapes over the treatment of Doyle from the Town fans, maybe need to acknowledge the injustice of the Adams red card which in the process of the game was harsh to say the least. What needs to be remembered however is that there is no place for items to be tossed from the stands onto the playing surface either at or not at the players and Town will be hoping the league will be as lenient with them as they were with Barnsley following the serrated can which was thrown at a Town player during the first leg of last season's play-off semi-finals - |

Result: Bradford City 0 (0)-(1) 1 Huddersfield Town, Coca-Cola League One, Valley Parade, 14,925 The travelling army of Town fans gained the West Yorkshire bragging rights again this afternoon with an hard fought 1-0 victory over high flying Bradford City. A Mark Hudson goal on 25 minutes was enough for Town to defeat City during a fiery encounter which saw seven booked and Town reduced to 10 men with the sending off of Danny Adams on 72 minutes. The Terriers had the better of the first half and it was no surprise when Hudson scored the opening goal. A Gary Taylor-Fletcher cross was met by Hudson's head who scored for the second season running at Valley Parade. Both sides had the opportunity to add further to the scoreline City's Dean Windass having the best effort pulling his shot wide. Loan striker Luke Beckett was working hard up front trying to forge openings for the Terriers. Bradford came out strong in the second half and the Terriers had to hold strong to retain the lead against a City side which has been playing some excellent football of late. Defender Martin McIntosh who himself almost scored in the first half prevented a City equaliser straight from the restart. In-form Gary Taylor-Fletcher picked up and injury and was replaced after six minutes of the second half. That seemed to give the home side the incentive to push on and former loan striker David Graham tested Matthew Glennon who was terrific throughout the contest. The game threatened to boil over on 72 minutes when a late challenge on City full back Nathan Doyle from the already booked Adams resulted in a second yellow card. A foul minutes later on the same player by Matthew Young found him into the referees notebook. That proved only to stir Town further who found themselves up against the fussy Keith Hill who was officiating a above normal heated derby between the Bantams and the Terriers. City loan player Eddie Johnson who was introduced to the game on 78 minutes almost secured a point for the home side. City who had not been beaten at home this season almost kept onto that record thought that they had equalised twice into the five minutes of time added on. Johnson was first brilliantly denied by a wonderful Glennon save, and the Town keeper followed that up moments later to prevent Windass from scoring. The 1-0 victory was met at the full time whistle by huge raptures from the huge Town following who saw the Terriers move up to 13th in the League One table. It was also the first clean sheet in six matches since the home draw to Doncaster Rovers. A beaming Peter Jackson hopes that this "terrific" win will give Town the energy to push on now and go on a decent run to move up the league table. Jackson was also critical of some Town fans who have questioned their desire for the club. Jacko pointed to the excellent defending as the Terriers protected their 1-0 lead. To be fair to Town this afternoon, they never really looked like conceding. Whoever dares to question the players passion for clean sheets and victories need only be reminded of this match. Town raised their game against local opposition who have been playing excellent football this season. But the tactics from Jackson totally nullified the City threat. The Terriers worked hard and gave the City players no time at all on the ball, which clearly unsettled the Bantams. The disruptions that followed after the sending off of Danny Adams was a flash back to the 3-2 Town victory at Valley Parade in April 1998. In the last ten visits to Valley Parade Town have only tasted defeat twice and have now won 17 of the 45 derby matches against City. Match Details Bradford City Booked: Doyle, Bridge-Wilkinson Possession: 55% Huddersfield Town Sent Off: Adams (72 - two yellow cards) Booked: Adams, Holdsworth, Worthington, Young Goals: Hudson 25 Possession: 45% Attendance Referee - |

It comes after the Silkmen lost their eighth match of the season at Hereforrd United yesterday to leave them seven points adrift at the bottom without a win so far this season. Horton was manager at the Moss Rose for 2 and a half years and took Macclesfield into the area final of the Members Cup and also into the play-off's. But poor results at the start of this season has led to the downfall of the manager who managed the Terriers between June 1995 and October 1997 before getting the sack from the Terriers with the side struggling at the foot of what is now the Championship - September 2006 news archived - |
