Defender goes elsewhere

Rumoured transfer target 22 year old left side player Lewis Emanuel has joined Luton Town from Bradford City. Bradford born Emanuel impressed the championship side enough during a number of pre-season matches to warrant the free transfer move from Valley Parade.

This website had previously brought to you back in June 2006, that Peter Jackson (a former agent of Emanuel) was set to make the quality left sided player his first summer capture. The void left by his departure will give a massive headache to Colin Todd when trying to fill it, with four players targeted as been required at City.

Meanwhile former Terriers left back Anthony Lloyd has come back to Yorkshire to play his football. After a disappointing time last season on the South coast with Torquay United, Lloyd as joined National Conference side York City

Terriers clip the wings of the Robins in Ibiza!

The Terriers ended their Copa Ibiza pre-season football tournament with victory over League Two side Swindon Town to finish runners-up in the three team tournament. Peter Jackson played a strong side with youngster James Hand at left-back against Dennis Wise's side which beat the Island 11 5-0 after the Terriers had been beaten by the Island side 2-1. Hand particularly caught the eye with an excellent performance

The size of the Wiltshire club's victory over the Ibiza select side meant that they won the 2006 tournament on goal difference. Jackson started with what is likely to be his starting side on August 5th at Gillingham. Matt Glennon was in goal with the striking pairing of Andy Booth and Luke Beckett.

Jackson employed a different system of 5-3-2 with John McCombe impressing in the new style formation when he entered the field as a sub on 50 minutes. He replaced Andy Holdsworth who was returning to action after an hernia operation during the summer.

The winning goal came with the run of play from Chris Brandon scoring it. There was a little slice of luck for Town from the Brandon drive which took a deflection as it flew into the back of the net.

Andy Booth was named player of the tournament and will receive a wonderful reception on Tuesday evening for the pre-season match with Real Soceidad which marks the official start of the legend's testimonial season.

Jackson believes that pre-season is well on track and is looking for further development during the remaining pre-season matches. Jackson felt that his side got stronger and stronger as the match progressed against Swindon and was delighted with the victory in San Antonio which was played a competitive edge to it as a number of tackles from a big and physical Robins went in hard.

At one point Swindon was asked to substitute a player due to his aggressive nature. Jackson has vowed to try the 5-3-2 formation, with indications he could play this against the Spanish La Liga side on Tuesday night.

Dennis Wise was happy with the performance of his Swindon Town side, who struck the Town bar in the first half. Michale Pook clashed into Chris Brandon with a heavy tackle moments before the classy midfielder gave the Terriers the lead with a 20-yard drive.

The victory was enjoyed by the few hundred Terriers who followed Town throughout the week on the party Island.

Town lose Ibiza opener!

Town's second appearance in the Cope De Ibiza tournament on the party island ended in defeat last night as the home select 11 came back to record a 2-1 victory for the hosts.

The Terriers who fielded a relatively inexperienced backline but with Paul Rachbuka in goal took the lead through Gary Taylor-Fletcher. But two quick goals in the second half gave the hosts the victory.

The format of the three side tournament (the other side is Swindon Town) is a mini-league, so the Terriers are not out of it yet

Town will wear red next season!

The change strip ('away' strip) will be all red next season as the Terriers revisit history with the new Admiral branded change stripe. The shirt will be predominantly red with flashes of black panels on either side. The shirt features a v-neck collar with black trim.

The shorts match the shirt. Red in colour with black flashes on either side and the socks are completely red.

Yorkshire Building Society sits proudly across the centre of the shirt, which sees the return of the Thrice Championship stars above the famous Town crest. The Admiral logo is black on both the shirt and shorts. Visit the HTAFC homepage for more details on the kits for next season and for a photo of the new kit.

The club say the kit will be released on sale later this month, in time for the new season, if not for the summer holiday away

Pre-season Result: AFC Emley 0-3 Huddersfield Town

Pre-season got off to a flying start for the Terriers at Emley with three goals and a clean sheet for goalkeeper Paul Rachbuka. Andy Booth started upfront for the Terriers with John McAliskey with new signings Matt Glennon and Luke Beckett set to make their debuts on Thursday evening at Harrogate Town.

Town had numerous chances in an entertaining first half and deservedly went in at half time 2-0 up. Legend Booth opened the scoring for the Terriers 10 minutes before McAliskey (33) doubled the lead. Despite chances in the second half to add to the scoreline, Town left it until the closing moments when midfielder Michael Collins secured the victory having been on the pitch for only 10 minutes.

Jackson was delighted with the victory and the work out and picked out the passing abilities of midfield general Mark Hudson as the star performer. There was disappointing news for Tom Clarke who was injured midway through the second half and midfielder Adnan Ahmed who had looked lively was also replaced due to injury late in the match

Clarke (knee) and Ahmed (ankle) are said to be not too bad with the knocks called minor by the Town medical team. Jackson praised the excellent team spirit during last night's good run out and labelled praise on Tim Stephenson the Emley 'keeper who helped keep the score respectable for the home side.

1,280 supporters turned up to the Welfare Ground to watch the pre-season opener. Town fans would have been delighted with the performance and that Andy Booth opened the scoring in this testimonial season.

The supporters who turned out (a record for the AFC Emley club) gave 'keeper Stephenson a standing ovation at the end of the match despite the Northern Counties East League side conceding 3 goals. The 'keeper from Dalton in Huddersfield made a number of fine stops to prevent his home town club destroying the non-league side.

He deservedly took the man of the match award has he thwarted Booth, Collins, McAliskey, Ahmed and Hudson with his string of fine saves.

Jacko still tracks Lewington

Despite the swap deal involving quality left sided utility man Dean Lewington and Town striker Pawel Abbott fell through with Abbott wanting to prove his worth at the Galpharm Stadium Town boss Peter Jackson is still tracking the MK Dons player and is set to challenge the League Two club with a deal.

Jackson is said to admire Lewington who would give Town options on the left both in defence and midfield and give the Terriers a classy left sided option. If Town was to sign Lewington it would be an excellent addition to the squad and could prove to be a wonderful acquisition for the club.

Former Town legend Marcus Stewart could be set for a city move back to former club Bristol Rovers. Stewart joined his boyhood supported club Bristol City last summer but after a season of unrest and disappointment and the news he has been left of City's pre-season tour squad Stewart is predicated to be set for a return to Rovers

Abbott remains a Terrier

Striker Pawel Abbott has delighted manager Peter Jackson by turning down a potential move to Milton Keynes Dons in favour of fighting for his first team place at the Galpharm Stadium.

Abbott who has scored 46 goals in 106 appearances for Town was due to sign for the MK Dons in a swap deal with left-sided utility player Dean Lewington, but the Polish striker felt the right move for him at this stage was to remain at Town.

Jackson was delighted with the positive response from the striker whose early season goals shot Town to the top of League One last season. Abbott fizzled out and started only one match in the last three months of the season.

Abbott who has returned from the close season looking sharp, fit and strong will feature in pre-season as he looks to fight for a place in the starting line-up when the League One season kicks-off on August 5th

Beckett passes his medical!

Luke Beckett has passed his medical and put pen to paper on his three year deal. Beckett joined in with the rest of his new team mates in pre-season training. Manager Peter Jackson is delighted that his squad as returned, fit, healthy and strong but as not ruled out any new signings.

The 29 year old is so confident that he is targeting 20 goals next season, went through an extensive medical which he passed without issue. Beckett believes that if he can stay fit (he has had an injury prone career) he will bag at least 20 goals for his new club.

20 goals is a realistic target for the former Sheffield United striker who feels that he is now in his prime. A number of clubs wanted Beckett but once he knew the Terriers wanted him, he felt that there was only one place he would end up.

Beckett scored 18 goals last season whilst on loan at Oldham. 17 of those came from Boxing Day including one at the Galpharm Stadium when Town won 3-2 in January. His first game for Oldham was in September against Huddersfield Town, a match Town won 3-0.

The season before he score 18 goals, 6 of those whilst on loan at Town. His best return in a season 19 was for Chester in the 1999/2000 season
