Third place will play 6th place whilst it's 4th versus 5th in the semi-final stages of the play-off's. The winners will then contest the final at Cardiff's Millennium Stadium. The semi-final matches will take place on Thursday May 11th (first leg) and Sunday May 14th (second leg). The final will take place on Saturday May 27th More news on the play-off's nearer the time, including who will be playing who - Result: Huddersfield Town 1-2 Yeovil Town The defeat in the last home match of the season means that the Terriers can no longer secure automatic promotion. Instead they now must rely on the play-off's if they are to secure promotion. Southend United are promoted and Colchester United need only a point from their final match to join them. With that in mind it looks like Town will be joined in the play-offs by Brentford and two from Barnsley, Swansea City, Nottingham Forest and Doncaster Rovers - Wonderful home attendance's for this season! Not taking into account the additional home match for the play-offs, Town attendance's at the Glapharm Stadium this season have broken the 300,000 barrier. The wonderful home support which saw over 19,000 turn up to the Barnsley match have regularly been around the average attendance mark of 13,057. The average attendance for this season is up from 11,909 from last season. The promotion campaign of 2003/2004 saw an average attendance of 10,528. This season marks the highest average home attendance at the Galpharm Stadium in seven years, when Town who missed out narrowly on the Division One (now Championship) play-off's had average attendance's of 13,618. So good as the support been this season, that the 2005/2006 attendance's are the fifth highest since the 1970/1971 season. Highest Average League Gates since 1970/1971: 1. 1970/1971 - 23,228 - Club appeals to supporters Just 24 hours before the final league match of the season kicks-off at the Galpharm Stadium, Huddersfield Town has appealed to all supporters to keep off the pitch. Anyone encroaching onto the pitch or trackside could be arrested. The club has also stated that the players and management wish to perform a lap of honour but this will only happen if the pitch remains clear of supporters. The club is expecting a decent crowd at the stadium to welcome Yeovil Town to the Galpharm in what is a must win match for Town's automatic promotion hopes - Town linked with move for Harper? Peter Jackson is rumoured to be poised to make a move for former loan keeper Steve Harper irrespective of what division Town are playing in next season. Harper who enjoyed a great loan spell from Newcastle United during Jackson's first era in charge, is said to be happy to return to Huddersfield. Jackson who has seen his first choice goalkeeper Paul Rachbuka struggle for form this season would be happy to pay off the American to pave the way for Harper to leave the North East. However, Jackson cannot afford to do that and it would appear that not giving a contract to Phil Senior would be the route Jackson will take. Harper is out of contract with Newcastle at the end of the season, and it would appear that Harper is not ready to sign a new deal - |

Town target second place A victory tonight by two or more clear goals would put the Terriers into the automatic promotion places on goal difference. Peter Jackson who remains confident of automatic promotion knows that a big win tonight would see his side leapfrog both Colchester United and Brentford after yesterday's results went Town's way. Jackson was boosted by injury news today which revealed that Andy Booth (hamstring), Pawel Abbott (back), Phil Senior (back) and defender Martin McIntosh have all returned to light training. None of the players are expected to feature this evening at the big home clash with Chesterfield, although McIntosh and Abbot both rejoined mainstream training. - Season tickets announced All the season ticket prices for next season have been announced by the club. Worthington banned for last three league matches! If injuries were not bad enough at this time of the season for manager Peter Jackson to contend with, he now needs to find a berth to fill in the centre of midfield. Town captain and engine-room man Jon Worthington will be banned for the remaining three league matches after tomorrow evening's clash at the Galpharm with Chesterfield. Worthington was booked during the 1-1 draw on Easter Saturday with Bournemouth. Worthington who celebrated his 23rd birthday yesterday picked up his 15th booking of the season, but will be supporting the Town players by giving them encouragement before and during the vital run in - Jackson looks at the 'destiny' of promotion After missing the chance to close the gap on leaders Southend United, the position in the league table could have been so much worse for Town if Brentford and Colchester had both not drawn. Whatever Town do at the moment it appears to be matched by other teams chasing the promotion places and those dreaded play-off places. Town who play tomorrow will be eager to see Bank Holiday Monday results go their way, and then they must beat Chesterfield on Tuesday night. Jackson who like many believes that this League One is "unpredictable", feels that the way Town are 'let out of jail' when they drop points, it really could be destiny for Town to achieve automatic promotion. Key Bank Holiday Monday matches for the promotion/play-off sides: Monday Barnsley v Southend Tuesday Huddersfield Town v Chesterfield - Ronnie reaps good form! Former Town favourite Ronnie Jepson has reaped the current good fortune his Gillingham side is currently having by signing a contract extension that will keep him as Gills manager until 2008. Jepson who has seen his side go five wins on the bounce including wins against promotion hopefuls, Brentford, Swansea, Huddersfield and Friday night's 1-0 victory over leaders Southend - |

Result: AFC Bournemouth 1-1 Huddersfield Town Gary Taylor-Fletcher with the goal for Town on 71 minutes. Town had trailed from the 34th minute - Town to play Arsenal! Huddersfield Town has announced that they are to play a friendly against Arsenal as part of the 2008 Centenary. Arsenal will also give Town a gift of a replica of the Herbert Chapman bust that is proudly situated in the halls of Arsenal Stadium, Highbury. The game that is set to be a sell out as been on the cards for over a year and follows hard work by Town Chief Andrew Watson. The Gunners chairman Peter Hill-Wood said that his club are delighted to play a part in Town's centenary, a centenary that promises to highlight the proud history of Huddersfield Town - Stead gives his support Former Town striker Jon Stead has given a word of support to his former club. Stead who is playing with Premiership strugglers Sunderland believes that Town an clinch second spot in a tight League One - Jackson issues rallying cry Town boss Peter Jackson who still remains confident of promotion despite the 2-0 defeat at Gillingham last weekend and the loss of both Andy Booth and Pawel Abbott for Saturday's visit to Bournemouth. Jackson who knows that his side have a number of tough games ahead of them Booth is out with a hamstring injury that forced him off at half time against Gillingham. Added to that is the continuing back trouble for Pawel Abbott, which means he will not travel to the South coast. Martin McIntosh also failed to come from the reserve game at Walsall in midweek unscathed. Better news for Jackson is that influential midfielder Chris Brandon returns to the starting line-up, meaning that Gary Taylor-Fletcher can team up with David Graham in attack. If Town are going to scrape into the automatic promotion places by the end of the season they must win at Dean Court on Saturday. Town whose form away from home as been scratchy for most of the season and with five league games left and three of those away from the Galpharm, if automatic promotion is to be realised Town must not savour defeat again. - Bournemouth have massive say on League One promotion! AFC Bournemouth will help to dictate where automatic promotion is won and lost. Starting with Town this afternoon the Cherries then have to play both Brentford and Colchester United before the end of the season. For Town they know a win today is a must despite having numerous players missing. Bournemouth manager Sean O'Driscoll has called today's match "difficult". Town drew 2-2 with the Cherries at the Galpharm Stadium earlier this season despite the Terriers leading 2-0 and coasting to victory. O'Driscoll talking to the official Bournemouth side gave credit to the club and the youth set-up. Town will also have to contend with Cherries prolific goalscorer James Hayter, who in the January transfer window turned down Town to remain on the South coast. It was him back in October that won Bournemouth a point at the Galpharm with two second half strikes. Two points from the last four away matches, must read at the end of this game - five points from the last five away games. Anything less and Town's realistic challenge for automatic promotion could end this afternoon on the sunny Bournemouth coast - |

Result: Gillingham 2-0 Huddersfield Town Huddersfield Town's automatic promotion aspirations took a major knock in Kent, as Ronnie Jepson's side ran out 2-0 winners at the Priestfield Stadium. Town lost the game 2-0 as they failed to score for the first time in 13 matches since the 2-0 loss at Brentford in January. One early goal and one late goal condemned promotion chasing Huddersfield to defeat against Gillingham managed by popular former Town striker Ronnie Jepson. It started badly for Town. Peter Jackson who had already had to juggle his side around due to Chris Brandon's injury (Gary Taylor-Fletcher played wide right with David Graham returning up front) had to endure an injury during warm up to goalkeeper Phil Senior. That left Jackson with no choice but to play American Paul Rachubka in goal with no back 'keeper option on the bench. To make things even worse living legend Andy Booth had to be replaced at half-time through injury - he was replaced by the returning Pawel Abbott. Although it was a bad day at the office for the Terriers it could have been worse. Only Southend United of the promotion chasers won. Brentford drew 1-1 at home with Bradford, Barnsley had the same scoreline in their home match with Chesterfield. Colchester United's worrying form continued as the U's failed to score for the fifth consequentive away match as they lost 1-0 at Nottingham Forest, whilst Oldham suffered a shock 2-1 home defeat at the hands of Milton Keynes Dons. Nottingham Forest's latest win (their 6th win in the last 8 matches) has brought them back into the play-off frame. If after the start to the season they had could come back into the play-off make-up, they would bring the confidence with them into the end of season lottery. With their size and supporter backing, many would not bet against them winning the play-offs. The pre-match warm-up set the scene for the Terriers on a bleak visit to the county named 'The Garden of England'. But for Town there was nothing rosy in their garden after suffering a defeat, a blank sheet and injuries all coming at the wrong time for everyone connected with Huddersfield Town. After just 4 minutes of the clash Town found themselves chasing the tie, as Ronnie Jepson's improving Gills came out of the starting blocks quickly. Garry Mulligan stroked in the ball from a tight angle after Town had half-cleared Mulligan who felt that he could score against the Terriers is on loan from Sheffield United. Sadly for Town it was a defence mistake by Nathan Clarke that enabled the home side to get off to the perfect start. Town almost secured the right form of reply as Danny Schofield tested home keeper Jason Brown seconds after Gillingham had taken the lead. There was then a series of exchanges in which Booth could have secured an equaliser on 12 minutes but his header was cleared only for Jon Worthington's follow-up to get clipped over the Gill's goal. Gillingham then felt that they had a decent appeal for a foul but Paul Joslin the referee waved away the appeals after Nathan Clarke appeared to have brought down Mulligan after some excellent interconnecting play from the home side. Half way through the first half Booth almost levelled the scores but his powerful header from Gary Taylor-Fletcher's cross went just over. It is that type of chance, which Booth normally buries and it appeared to mark the writing on the wall in this afternoon's clash. Tommy Black continued to cause Town problems before Danny Schofield was booked by the referee for apparent diving in the area after he had rounded Brown in the Gills goal. As the game entered the final stages before the break, Graham and Mark Hudson had chances to level for Town, but Graham saw his sweetly and powerful drive well saved. The second half started at pace with both Gillingham and Town looking to add to the scoreline. After Rachbuka did well to deny Gillingham a second goal, Brown did even better to deny Graham yet again. Substitute Pawel Abbott made the sort of impact his quality suggest when his cross found Graham who point-blank effort was miraculously saved at full-stretch by Brown, more evidence that this was just not going to be Town's day. As the second half wore on both sides had the chance to add to the scoreline. Schofield had an effort for Town just before Nathan Clarke's match went bad to worse as he was booked for a foul on the tricky Tommy Black. It was Black who almost fed Darren Byfield to add a second for Jepson's side, but the latter just could not reach the cross. With Town looking for a leveller Jackson made his final change of the afternoon bringing on fourth striker as John McAliskey replaced Danny Adams as the match went into four minutes of time added on. But as with the match last month at Hartlepool United, as Town pushed for a late equaliser they conceded again. This time it was 60 seconds into the added on time and as Matthew Jarvis expertly executed goal sealed the points for the Kent side. Jarvis' solo goal saw him cut in from the left side skinning Andrew Holdsworth before unleashing a drive that Rachbuka could do nothing about. It now means that the home side in their last four matches have won them all and they have included promotion chasing Swansea City, Brentford and now Huddersfield Town. For Town they need to pick themselves up and prepare for the long Bank Holiday trip to AFC Bournemouth next Saturday before the Tuesday evening match with Chesterfield. The match with Chesterfield is a category B match with a 19:45 BST kick-off time. Town manager Peter Jackson called the defeat a "major disappointed" as he pointed at the missed chances, which helped Town lose 2-0. Jackson who wanted his side to start positive was disappointed to have seen his team start so badly. Commenting on Booth's hamstring injury a downbeat Jackson said "he could be out a couple of weeks" however Jackson said that he would be assessing that on Monday. If Booth is missing for a while, it could prove a major factor in Town getting automatic promotion, and if necessary the play-off's. Jackson looking at the other results said "this defeat could have been worse". Gillingham manager Ronnie Jepson had nothing but praise for his side. Gillingham has struggled this season but the victory over Town took them up to 13th position in the League One table. Their fourth win on the bounce in which Jepson called it "a good win against a good team" as all but secured League One football for the Gills next season. The recovery work done by Jepson as been excellent. He took charge in November with Gillingham in real trouble in the relegation zone, but he has turned that around and taken Gills into mid table. Result: Huddersfield Town 1-0 Barnsley A Gary-Taylor effort on 55 minutes was enough for Town to beat promotion rivals Barnsley in a good Yorkshire derby encounter. A season best 19,052 packed the Galpharm Stadium to witness the League One clash. Barnsley had a player sent off late in the match. Town are now joint second with Brentford. But it is the Bee's who sit in the second automatic place on goal difference. It was cruical victory for the Terriers who pulled three points away from Colchester United who sit fourth and closed the gap on Southend United who drew 1-1 at Bournemouth a place Town travel to on April 15.
