A Those Were The Days Special - our very own tribute to George Best Thisisthebarmyarmy.co.uk Tribute to George Best (TWTD Special) - Town look to build on best home form The Terriers will look to build on the league's best home form as they look forward to three away matches. The first on Sunday see's Town take on Worcester City at St George's Lane in the FA Cup. Whilst next up in the league is an away match at MK Dons a week Tuesday before travelling to Bristol City on the Saturday. With Town second behind Swansea City on goal difference (the Swans have a +20 difference to the Terriers +10), Town will be aiming to add to the four wins away from home already in the league and will be looking to do that against two sides who are currently in the bottom six. Town who could have won by more than 2-1 on Saturday against Nottingham Forest are looking to give a side a real hammering before the end of the season - Holdsworth hit by coin Andy Holdsworth who believes Town will hand out an hammering soon, as revealed that whilst he was receiving treatment during Saturday's Galpharm victory he was hit on the head by a 50p coin. The coin was thrown from the Forest contingent after the visitors had Jack Lester sent off after clashing with Holdsworth. Holdsworth who thought the referee had given Forest a penalty during the incident in which Lester was sent off, wants this type of activity stamped out. - FA Cup tickets go on general sale tomorrow The few remaining tickets for the FA Cup clash at Worcester City on Sunday - which is all ticket - go on general sale tomorrow. With the numbers involved, the club as asked that any supporter wishing to see the match with the Conference North side purchase a ticket as early as possible tomorrow - Abbott to play if fit Pawel Abbott if fit will play against Andy Preece's side on Sunday. Abbott who was missing from the 2-1 home victory over Nottingham Forest on Saturday (watched by Andy Morrison - the Worcester assistant boss) has his boss' support to get fit for the FA Cup clash against the non-league side, despite the Terriers hitting form - Fowler impresses for Seadogs On loan Town midfielder Lee Fowler ran the show for Scarborough as the Seadogs beat Halifax Town 2-0 on Saturday. Fowler also scored the opening goal and is hopeful of staying an extended time on loan to Scarborough as he gains quality first team football - Manager of the month for Jacko? After an unbeaten November, Peter Jackson looks set to be in contention for the League one November Manager of the Month award for November. Jackson whose side are second in the table, and progressed into the next stage of the FA Cup, won two of their league matches and drew the other against Bradford City. Although it would be extra evidence of Jackson's managerial qualities and another progression of what so far as been an excellent season, many connected with the club will remember the manager of the month award Jackson won for August - the first match in September was a 4-1 home defeat at the hands of Scunthorpe United, the only home defeat of the season so far - |

Match Result: Huddersfield Town 2-1 Nottingham Forest A massive crowd at the Galpharm Stadium for the second week running saw the Terriers put in an outstanding show in the first half to revenge the opening day defeat to Nottingham Forest. Two goals in five first half minutes from Danny Schofield and Andy Booth gave Peter Jackson the victory he was wanting and keeps Town level top with Swansea City. Jackson was forced into a number of changes for the visit of improving Forest. Pawel Abbott was not passed fit so he was replaced upfront by Gary Taylor-Fletcher. Chris Brandon came back into the starting line up on the right wing to replace Taylor-Fletcher, whilst Tony Carss made way for the returning Mark Hudson. The passionate game had everything. Goals, a big crowd, a great Town performance and two red cards. Town had a great chance on 19 minutes to force the opener but Paul Gerrard in the Forest goal tipped away a lovely header by Chris Brandon. From the resulting corner Hudson's shot went just wide. That just about warmed up the home contingent in the 17,370 crowd as seconds later Danny Schofield gave Town the lead. Showing just why he is perhaps the most skillful player on Town's book, Schofield connected with a long through ball from Danny Adams, before his exquisite control and lob put Town in the lead. Things got even better for rampant Town five minutes later when Andy Booth scored his eighth goal of the season. Andy Holdsworth and Brandon connected well, before a well executed Brandon cross was met by the powering head of Booth to head in Town's second. Then a beautiful move which carved open the Forest defence and included multiple Town players saw Schofield cross a venomous shot against the post, as Town's fluidity and stylish football once again delighted the home crowd - this time a large vociferous crowd. As the match drifted towards half time, Forest picked up a couple of cautions, one for a nasty challenge on Town 'keeper Paul Rachbuka. Town manager Peter Jackson and the crowd felt that the yellow card dished out to Forest striker Jack Lester just before the break for his high challenge on Rachukba should have been red, and Jackson continued vehemently the discussion with the referee as the players went down the Galpharm tunnel for half time. Although Forest had had chances in the first half, it was Town who dominated it, and once they got into the lead on 20 minutes, it was a justifiable 2-0 lead. The second half of this match will be remembered for a Forest goal and two sending-off's for the visitors. Just as Town did away at Yeovil Town two weeks ago, a two goal lead was halved in the first minute of the second half. After his foul just before the break Lester silenced the home crowd and Peter Jackson by scoring Forest's goal. A long ball forward by Forest was flicked on by Gareth Taylor, Lester raced clear and despite the efforts of David Mirfin the former Sheffield United striker gave the 3,200 visiting supporters something to cheer. Taylor almost scored a second moments after the Forest leveller but his 30 yard screamer was well stopped by Rachbuka. But it was a 10 minute wonder for Forest after the break. Town began to find their feet in the match again and pressed Forest for a third goal. Booth's flick-on for Gary Taylor-Fletcher put him in the clear only for the summer signing to be hauled down by Forest captain Ian Breckin, who was shown a straight red card for his troubles (58). With Forest all at sea and Town attacking at will and in waves, Schofield once again saw an effort go just wide as Town looked to breach the faltering Forest defence. Moments later it was that Adams/Schofield connection that saw the mana of the match Danny Schofield drive towards the goal, only for a great interception by a Forest defender. With 13 minutes left for the visitors to endure another miserable away defeat, things got worse for their manager Gary Megson. Andy Holdsworth and Jack Lester clashed in the box, the Forest striker went pathetically to the pitch and the referee made no mistake by revealing a second yellow card to the Forest goalscorer, to send Forest to nine men. With Town still pressurising for a third goal a scramble in the Forest goal area almost brought it, but four different Town chances were blocked by the Forest defence, with only them knowing how. With time running out and Forest trying their best to produce a second goal, Town captain Jon Worthington was shown a yellow card - the only Town booking of the match, Brandon's 25 yard shot on an open Forest goal went just wide after Gerrard had come forward for a late Forest corner. Town remain second in the table, joint top with Swansea City (goal difference the difference) after the Welsh side grabbed a last minute equaliser at Tranmere Rovers. Town manager Peter Jackson called the performance "outstanding", as Town served up some wonderful football in the first half of a pulsating match. Although he did not get the clean sheet he wanted before the match and believes his team can still get better. Jackson was delighted with three points against a team he still believes will be there or there abouts at the end of the season. He also felt the season best crowd at the Galpharm Stadium enjoyed the football produced for them. That sentiment is not echoed by Forest manager Gary Megson. He feels that if his side's poor away form does not end soon they will finish mid table. He had few quorums with the two red cards, simply saying that his players need to be more "professional". Stats: Ball Possession: Town: 52%, Nottingham: 48% - |

Match Result: Huddersfield Town 0-0 Bradford City The biggest home gate of the season so far so Town fail to score for the first time in a massive 32 matches. The last time the Terriers failed to score was on Saturday December 18 2004 when Bradford City won at the Galpharm 1-0, and it was City's turn again to blank the Terriers. The goalless draw keeps Town in touch with leaders Swansea City and open up a two-point gap on third place Southend United who lost 2-0 at next Saturday's opponents Nottingham Forest. The draw in the end was a fair result in what was a full bloodied West Yorkshire derby encounter and although Town had the better of the first half it was Bradford who almost scored after the restart when Mark Bower hit the outside of a post. With time of the clash running out, Nathan Clarke almost stole the show as he did at Valley Parade when he placed a lob over the head of the City 'keeper only to see it chip the crossbar. But for the near 3,500 Bradford supporters, they would have been delighted with a point at high-flying Huddersfield and to be fair Colin Todd and his players deserved it. Although Town controlled large parts of the match with a little bit more enterprise in front of goal and a little bit more luck they could have won this, but Town boss Peter Jackson was delighted with the clean sheet and felt the result was "fair". There was a place on the bench for both Chris Brandon and Adnan Ahmed - who have both returned from injury, with Brandon replacing Pawel Abbott on 66 minutes - due to injury. The manager also confirmed that Pawel Abbott may need stitches in a knee wound. Stats: Ball Possession: Town: 54%, Bradford: 46% - |

It's Worcester City in FA Cup Second Round Adam Webster scored the only goal in Worcester City's replay with Chippenham Town at St George's Lane to set-up a lucrative £100,000 second round clash with League One side Huddersfield Town at St George's. Worcester overcame a stern Chippenham test with a goal on 76 minutes, moments after the visitors had been reduced to 10 men after Iain Harvey was sent off. Harvey protested against a yellow card he received for a foul and immediately was shown a second and sent off. Town's game at Worcester will take place on December 4 and with around 700 tickets available to Town fans it is a good job it is live on BBC television. The home side had warmed up to the clash with the Bluebirds by demolishing Hendesford Town 6-2 in the Conference North at the weekend. That victory took City out of the relegation zone as they secured only their third league victory of the season read more Read more about the FA Cup draw here - Hudson out of derby match After his harsh late sending off during the Terriers 2-1 victory at Yeovil Town midfielder Mark Hudson will be out of Saturday's West Yorkshire derby between Huddersfield Town and Bradford City which kicks off at lunch time at the Galpharm Stadium. Match Result: Yeovil Town 1-2 Huddersfield Town Two goals in the first half won Town a tough match at Yeovil to hand the hosts only their second home defeat of the season. Town endured a massive Yeovil fightback in the second half, but Peter Jackson's side held on despite a goal 2 minutes into the second half against one of the form teams in the division at home. Andy Booth gave Huddersfield the lead after 11 minutes through the big talismanic figure of Booth. Danny Schofield drifting into the Yeovil area following good work from Gary Taylor-Fletcher and the ball fell to Booth who slipped the ball in. Moments later Pawel Abbott almost scored a spectacular second when he was on the end of a long clearance but his overhead effort narrowly missed the target. Booth moments after that effort saw a powerful header hit the bar. Town's second came on 39 minutes. Abbott and Danny Scholfield both tried to score but the lose ball found Mark Hudson who converted for his third goal of the season. Hudson drove the ball through a crowd of players to give Town a deserved 2-0 advantage. Yeovil made two substitutions at the break and immediately one of those Kevin Gall go in on the action, he raided down the left and his cross was met by the head of Lee Johnson to put the home side back in the contest. Tow survived a second half fight back from the hosts but in the process had four players booked and in the 4th minute of injury time Hudson was sent off for a second booking. Jackson had reintroduced Pawel Abbott to the starting lineup with Chris Brandon failing a late fitness test. Gary Taylor-Fletcher moved to the right. Abbott was substituted on 78 minutes and that allowed Fletch to move into the strikers position with Booth. Both sides hit the woodwork during an interesting tie, but the fussy referee spoiled things for Town as he showed a plethora of cards during a traumatic second half. It was a solid three points for the Terriers against a decent Yeovil side and the victory sets up Town for a tough hoem double header against Bradford City next Saturday and then Nottingham Forest a week later. Due to Swansea City's victory at Southend United, the Terriers move up to second in the table, after ending a run of two league matches without a victory and the 706 travelling Town fans will make the long journey back to West Yorkshire delighted with the efforts of the Town players. Stats: Ball Possession: Yeovil: 51%, Town 49% - Tri-Nations Rugby League action at Galpharm Stadium The Galpharm Stadium plays host to the latest Gillette Tri-Nations match, with the stadium hosting Great Britain v New Zealand. Fowler loaned to the Seadogs Lee Fowler has joined Conference side Scarborough on a one month loan deal. The Welsh Under 21 midfielder has not featured at all for Town this season and has seen his chances limited at the Galpharm Stadium since scoring the deciding penalty at the Millennium Stadium in the play-off final with Mansfield Town. Read More - Jackson reveals that 11 out of contract at season end Manager Peter Jackson has revealed that he has 11 players out of contract at the end of the season. Of those, Anthony Lloyd (who he would allow leave for Torquay United if the Gulls wanted him), Junior Mendes (who Northampton want full time) and Lee Fowler. Another out of contract is the impressive Chris Brandon. Jackson however has confirmed that Town are close to signing a deal with him, and the others are Andy Booth, Phil Senior, Aaron Hardy, John McCombe, Matthew Young, Tony Carss and Danny Schofield. The latest Those Were The Days article Those Were The Days on thisisthebarmyarmy 10: A look back at start to the 1967/1968 season - Efe could be missing on Saturday! Former Town captain Efe Sodje who left the Galpharm Stadium for Yeovil Town in March is under no strain the return for this Saturday's match. Sodje has missed Yeovil's last three matches due to injury to the knee, and although he would like to face the Terriers on Saturday he will not be rushed into it. Yeovil Town manager Steve Thompson said "We will just have to see how Efe goes over the next day or so" - Positive Jackson aims for Town Manager Peter Jackson has told his players to be positive ahead of the long trip to the West Country to face Yeovil Town on Saturday. The Ciderman have recently found form, and have edged up the League One table and Jackson is expecting a tough match from a good footballing side. Jackson wants his side to take their chances and be strong at the back, as they look for a first league win in three matches to boost their promotion credentials. With Chris Brandon continuing to struggle, Jackson is tipped to recall under pressure striker Pawel Abbott who was dropped to the bench for the FA Cup win over Welling United last weekend, but Jackson has revealed that Brandon's fitness is the key to his match selection. Jackson has however been much more happier with Abbott during training and that could act as a tonic for the Town forward line - Stewart on his way? Sources from the South West reveal that former Town striker Marcus Stewart would be allowed to leave Ashton Gate if the struggling League One side got the right deal for him. Both Stewart and fellow striker partners Michael Bridges have not hit the form many people thought they would during close season, and are an element of why City are struggling towards the foot of the table. Whether Town would risk looking at Stewart again only time will tell, much will depend on the transfer window and if Town keep hold of leading scorer Pawel Abbott - Mendes wanted permanently Striker Junior Mendes is wanted by Northampton Town manager Colin Calderwood on a permanent basis. The striker who joined the Terriers for the start of last season from Mansfield Town has never really hit the goal scoring trail since returning from international duty towards the middle of last season. Mendes who is currently on loan with the League Two side would relish the chance of staying at Sixfields on a permanent basis as he is well down the striker pecking order at Huddersfield. Calderwood has stated his desire to bring in Mendes on a full term deal but is aware that nothing can open until the January transfer window. Again alot will depend on any movements out of the Galpharm Stadium during the transfer window, and should Abbott and Mendes leave, although any Abbott transfer would bring in revenue, it would leave Town badly down in the forward line - |

The match will have a 13:05 kick-off time. Holdsworth who scored a goal, has been called "a brave defender" by his manager and Jackson has asked him to attack more. Holdsworth has scored twice in the last three matches - Town to check on Brandon Chris Brandon has not had much luck recently where injuries are concerned. Forced off after scoring the equaliser against Swindon Town in the last league match, then subbed during the 4-1 FA Cup victory, his recovery will be checked by the Town medical team before risking him for the away trip to Yeovil Town Brandon who suffered a knee injury last Sunday as ice applied to the injury, but Jackson said that Brandon is in a lot of pain - Injury improvement boost Big defender Martin McIntosh and midfielders Adnan Ahmed and Lee Fowler have all returned to training following injuries. It will give Peter Jackson a boost, as his team look to improve on their league form (not won in 2 matches) to keep the pressure on leaders Southend United and second placed Swansea City. Jackson's thought's on the FA Cup Peter Jackson will watch the reply between Chippenham Town and Worcester City at Worcester's St George's Lane home, having seen the Terriers tied with the winners away from home. Jackson has admitted that he does not know much about Chippenham or Worcester, but he intends to find out, as the club look to reach the lucrative third round. Jackson was delighted from the performance of his side at home to Welling United, getting just what he wanted, and he gave credit to Welling before adding that his players did well as they could have won by more against a very good visiting side. Placing Pawel Abbott on the bench is perhaps a clear indication that Jackson is upset with him, and Town's striker has now not scored for four matches. Jamie Turner did however do well to prevent Abbott scoring for the Terriers this afternoon, when he smartly saved one on one with Abbott. Jackson noting the fixture list will point to the next two home matches. Both big category home matches against Bradford City and Nottingham Forest before the away tie in the FA Cup, but before the City match they have an away trip to the West County to face Yeovil Town next Saturday. What was a big disappointment, was with Town cruising and looking in total control they give away a needless goal at 4-0 up from a set-piece. Welling's 304 travelling supporters will have been the first to admit that Town dominated the second half and man of the match Jamie Turner needed to make a string of wonderful saves to prevent the home side winning by more. It was also another special day for Andy Booth who grabbed another two goals, to place him even stronger in the Legends category for Huddersfield Town. Welling started the match well but as soon as Town got a control of the match, the Wings never had a look in. Town passed the ball comfortably and controlled the forward play, but the lack of a clean sheet with just nine minutes to play and 4-0 up is not a good sign, and Jackson will once again bemoan the lack of a clean sheet - FA Cup Round Two draw It's Chippenham Town or Worcester (Away) in FA Cup Second Round - Result: FA CUP Round One: Huddersfield Town 4-1 Welling United Huddersfield Town did just what manager Peter Jackson wanted and that was a positive result, performance and into the hat for the next round. They also ensured that their would be no FA Cup shock in round one at the Galpharm Stadium The Terriers were one up before half time with the first of two from Andy Booth (27). Five minutes after the break Danny Schofield's penalty ensured the Town victory, but further goals from Booth (69) and a sweet strike from Andy Holdsworth (81) completed the Town scoring. Plucky and enterprising Welling tried their best but during the second half tired, but they never gave in and their manager will have been delighted with the man of the match performance of Jamie Turner in the United goal. But captain Chris Clarke grabbed a consolation goal six minutes from time, as Welling scored form a set piece with their only shot on target. The Terriers had 21 goal efforts, 15 on target and enjoyed 64% of ball possession. The Terriers also had 10 corners to two Attendance: 5,518 (304 from Welling United) - In Match News: FA Cup Round One: Huddersfield Town v Welling United, Sunday November 06, 2005 85 mins: Substitution: Welling United: Danny Lawson replaces Leon Solomon (tactical) 84 mins: SUBSTITUTION: Huddersfield Town: Michael Collins replaces Jon Worthington (tactical) 83 mins: Goal: Huddersfield Town 4-1 Welling United: Chris Clarke the Australian captain of Welling United gives the 300 travelling supporters from Kent something to cheer, as he scores with Welling's first shot on target. Moments after the goal Booth almost put the Terriers two up, and Gary Taylor-Fletcher has been lively throughout. The visitors have done well, but have become more and more nervous following Town's goal. Before the goal, United were enjoying some enterprising play and possession. Gerry delighted by young Terriers Academy Director Gerry Murphy is delighted to have seen young Town players Daniel Broadbent (striker) and 'keeper Alex Smithes be in an England shirt. The two Town academy products were both in the England Under 16 side that lost at Chester 1-0 to Northern Ireland in the Victory Shield. Broadbent started the match whilst Smithes was an unused substitute. Broadbent showed some of his pressing forward runs on live SKY television, whilst the commentators commented on Town having two in the England team - McAliskey requires op! Unlucky young striker John McAliskey has been told he requires a double hernia operation. The 20 year old striker who had just joined Torquay United on loan, returned north after just one match. McAliskey will now be out of action for anything up to 2 months, so his chances of football during the busy Christmas and New Year period look high unlikely. McAliskey had returned to the Devon club but returned back to Yorkshire when the injury continued - Swindon join Terriers! Swindon Town will join Huddersfield Town in next season pre-season tour to Ibiza. Town who enjoyed the Copa De Ibiza during preparation for this season was the first side to be asked back to play in the Spanish Island's competition - FA Cup Round One: Huddersfield Town v Welling United, Sunday November 06, 2005 The club is expecting a crowd of around 5,000 for the first ever match against Welling United. Skipper Jon Worthington is to return to the starting lineup after serving his single match suspension but fellow midfielder Chris Brandon is still a mjor doubt, as he is struggling with an ankle injury. Jackson has warned his players to prepare and to get the result required, as he looks to end a winless run of three matches in league and cup competitions. Jackson wants his players to treat this as a tough match and make it a "positive weekend". Jackson who is to field his strongest side available, understands that the Conference South side are tough opponents and under the leadership of Adrian Pennock are well placed in that division placed second, and Pennock has just won the manager of the month award. Christmas 2005 on thisisthebarmyarmy.co.uk Get it wrapped with thisisthebarmyarmy.co.uk - Brandon struggling, as Town go full strength Midfielder Chris Brandon is struggling to be fit for the FA Cup match with Welling United on Sunday. Brandon was substituted during the 1-1 home draw with Swindon Town after scoring the Terriers equaliser. Manager Peter Jackson has said that it is too early to judge Brandon's twisted ankle, but he is optimistic that the player should be fit to face the Wings on Sunday. Jackson is also reported to be ready to field a full strength side to face Adrian Pennock's Conference South outfit. Jackson will know that United are in a rich vain of form at the moment with Pennock winning the manager of the month award for his division - after taking the Wings through October unbeaten. Jackson will resist the charms of squad rotation (which backfired at Boston United in the LDV) as he welcomes back skipper Jon Worthington to a Town side that as not won in three matches. Jackson is hoping for a positive Sunday, as Town look to cancel out the FA Cup voodoo of previous seasons. Captain Worthington could replace Brandon, should the former Bradford Park Avenue player not pass fit - |

Reduced ticket prices for Sunday's FA Cup match Ticket prices for the first round FA Cup match with Welling United on Sunday are adults at £15, over 60's and full time students £5. The club as issued a statement due to fans been unhappy with the pricing structure, as it was a compromise between Town and Welling United. It would appear reading through the lines that Town would have wanted them lower but the non-league side wanted to remain consistent with Town's normal prices. Welling United supporters have acknowledge this fact to thisisthebarmyarmy.co.uk that they believe it is the Kent club rather than Town who have maintained relatively high prices. It is also Welling who wanted the 13:00 kick off, so the site understands - Lloyd on the move Young left back Anthony Lloyd as been allowed by Town to join League Two strugglers Torquay United on a month's loan with a view of a permanent deal with the Devon club. Last month Town boss Peter Jackson allowed striker John McAliskey to join up with the Gulls on loan, and he felt that since the 21 year old's contract is up with Town - and he is highly unlikely to receive a new one - it was only right to let Lloyd go on loan. With that in mind Jackson has given permission for the defender to play in the FA Cup for Torquay. Junior Mendes who is on loan at Northampton Town has also been given permission to play in the FA Cup at the weekend. Lloyd an academy product of the club made his debut in 2003 and has made 40 appearances for Town, but as not featured in the first team at all this season bar the LDV cup game at Boston United last month. Lloyd who can operate at right back if required was a key member of Jackson's young squad that achieved promotion via the play-off's two seasons ago. It comes on the day that Torquay boss Leroy Rosenior announces that he is to release six current Torquay players - Rotherham match in kick-off time change Town fans are reminded that the Boxing Day match at Rotherham United as been brought forward. On police advice the match at Millmoor will now kick off at 12:30pm rather than 3pm. Although some Town supporters are disappointed with this change in time, meaning some cannot attend the match, it is the belief of the police that if it is changed it will prevent any problems. Perhaps the South Yorkshire Police will not be in festive mood when the Town fans invade Millmoor - like previous visits to South Yorkshire, but the police advice is understandable if a little narrow minded - October 2005 news archived |
