PLAYER OF THE SEASON VOTE- update Striker Pawel Abbott who continue his rich scoring form with the winner against Brentford last weekend, still leads this site's player of the season 2004/2005 poll. There is still time to vote as the vote does not close until May 20 So keep those votes coming and make sure that your favourite Town player is crowned "thisisthebarmyarmy.co.uk - Player of the Season 2004/2005" Should Clarke not be fit to face the Robins, John McCombe, who this week signed a new one year contract with the Terriers, will start against the side just below the Terriers in the table The club has also planned a celebration-end to the season with a lap of honour and presentation to the championship winning reserve side - but these will only happen if the fans stay in the stands and do not enter the playing area or the running track Jackson is sure that all the supporters who attend tomorrow's match, including 2,000 school tickets (that will swell the Panasonic stand), will be right behind his side who still have a slight mathematical chance of reaching the play-off's. Jackson is also keen to continue the good run of 6 wins and a draw in the last 7 matches to prepare in the correct way for next season, with the manger believing the match against Swindon will be a "great occassion" It will also mark the final showings of defenders Rob Edwards and Steve Yates as their Huddersfield Town careers end on the conclusion of this season. And for Yates, his career in football finishes at the end of this season, after he has decided to retire from the game. Former Town captain Steve Jenkins will also be returning to Huddersfield with Swindon. The Welshman played over 200 games for the Terriers and will be given a fantastic Galpharm welcome - however it could be nip and tuck if the right-back starts for the Robins due to injury Despite twice going behind 0-1 and 1-2, Town roared back at the host's to run out 6-2 winners and secure promotion having won their last 11 matches on the bounce. First team manager Peter Jackson saw the victory and also saw the Town second string finish the match with 10 of the 11 players from the Academy. Jackson has already stated that some of them will feature next season, as he as released all the players he wishes to release and secured the contracts of those he wishes to keep. Jackson has also stated that he will only be bringing in one or two new players next season. The goals were scored by: Junior Mendes (1-1), Lee Fowler (2-2), Matthew Young (3-2), John McAliskey (4-2), Junior Mendes (5-2), Rob Edwards (6-2) The goals for the home side came from Ritchie Ryan (0-1) and Andy Parton (1-2) Scunthorpe had been the last team to defeat Town's reserves when they secured a 2-1 victory at the Galpharm Stadium in September |

RESULT: Huddersfield Town 2-2 Colchester United Manager Peter Jackson saw his side's faint hopes of a play-off place all but extinguish as the visiting Colchester United side secured a point with an heartbreaking last gasp leveller to delight the 197 supporters that travelled north to Yorkshire. Goals from Pawell Abbott (20) and Danny Schofield (62) had given Town the lead after Neil Danns had given the visitors a 19th minute lead. Abbott's 24th goal of the season came just a minute after Danns opener and was a sweet 25-yeard free kick. It was Abbott himself who forced the free-kick having gone on a positive run. Danny Schofield put Town in the driving seat early in the second half - his second goal in three matches - having been set-up by Abbott and Andy Booth. A lovely cross by Abbott was flicked on by Booth and the ball found Schofield who showed great technique and application to fire Town in front. But it was the U's who grabbed a deserved point with just minutes of the contest to go, through Liam Chilvers (90) who converted a Colchester United corner (their sixth of the match) with Town hoping for a sixth consecutive. Town stopper Paul Rachbuka failed to deal with a cross and deep in injury time Chilvers grabbed the fourth goal of the match. It came after a sustained spell of pressure from the visitors. Town had chances before that to put the game beyond the Essex side and even though the United leveller came late on, Town almost grabbed a third goal, but after a goalmouth scramble Booth saw his best efforts cleared by the United defence. The 2-2 draw continued the Terriers unbeaten home run which now stands at 11 matches (last time Town lost at the Galpharm Stadium was against Bradford City in December), but ended the run of winning matches that stood at 5. It also ends a 5 match winning home run, but it was the second match on the bounce that Town did not pick up a booking. The goal from Liam Chilvers - his first for Colchester - ensured that the U's continue their unbeaten run, extending that to 8 matches, as they look to pull away from the relegation zone. The goal for the U's player may have rectified himself with Phil Parkinson (his manager), for his foul on Abbott, that lead to Town's first goal. A worry for Town is that both Tom Clarke and brother Nathan Clarke had to be replaced during the match due to injury. Peter Taylor's side matched the same scoreline between Tranmere Rovers and Blackpool, meaning that the Tigers are automatically promoted for the second successive season. Hull City will join Luton Town in the Championship next season Pawel Abbott still leads the player of the season vote for 2004/2005, keep those votes coming |
