Peter Jackson is looking for Town to follow up their first home win, with a first away win when they take on Bury at Gigg Lane in the next league match In Michelle Adamson, Town have appointed a new retail manager. The 24 year old is a Town fan and Business graduate from the University of Huddersfield Town will be looking towards the Internet channel to start selling merchandise, as Town promise new modern retail outlet's with exciting concepts in the town centre and also at the McAlpine Stadium Nat Brown is keen to make up for lost time this season following a knee injury. Rugged and versatile Brown can play central defender but during yesterday's 2-1 win over Bristol Rovers, Brown came on for Andy Booth and has played up-front for the reserves The key player during yesterday's 2-1 home win, once again was striker Jon Stead, who had a multitude of scouts watching him score his fifth goal of the season Peter Jackson is disappointed with the quality of match officials Town have had this season. Jackson believes that Town have not had the rub of the green so far this season and bemoans the inconsistency of the officials "Some of the decisions so far have astounded me" Jackson has said that young goalkeeper Phil Senior still has a part to play in Town colours. Ian Gray who came in during the summer is first choice 'keeper due to his "little bit more experience", but Senior who Jacko regards has "working extremely hard", will play if Gray gets injured Peter Jackson is delighted with the people at the McAlpine Stadium "When you look behind the scenes now there are a lot of people with this club at heart" The Academy has a "massive role at this club" says Peter Jackson. An academy product is Jon Stead who is doing really well this season, and the manager believes the door is open to any of the juniors to make an impression this season, a reason why quite a few have been included in the first team squad |

League Review: Swansea City are back on top of the league after beating Mansfield Town (who ended the game with nine men) 4-1 at the Vetch Field and York lost 3-0 at Lincoln. Hull grabbed a late winner over Boston United to win 2-1, Yeovil Town's dip in form continued with a 4-1 defeat at Macclesfield and Cheltenham was the third team to win 4-1, beating Leyton Orient at Brisbane Road. Doncaster Rovers went down by a single goal at Northampton Town, whilst a late goal from Constantine won the match for Southend over next week's opponents Bury. The bottom two clubs could not fair much better although Carlisle (who sacked Rodney Collins on Friday) secured a point with a 0-0 draw over Cambridge United. Darlington also continued their early season struggle. Despite taking the lead at Spotland, Rochdale hit back, scoring four goals. Although Darlington registered another goal, Rochdale won 4-1. Better news for Scunthorpe fans, as they came from a goal down to defeat Torquay United with two late goals. The table now as Swansea sitting on top with 12 points, York City second with 12 points, Oxford (the only unbeaten team in the league) third on 11 and Hull City a point behind in fourth. On the bottom remain Carlisle (who remain without a win) and just above them Darlington on one point and three points respectively. Ironically, Cambridge United currently have the same record as Town. Played 5, won once, drawn three times, lost once, scored and conceded seven goals with six points in the bag! Manager Peter Jackson said before the kick-off the he wanted a win, and he got what he wanted! Although a late consolation goal will have disappointed the passionate manager Jackson thought Town thoroughly deserved the victory after putting in a "good performance", the best from Town in the League so far this season. Jackson felt Town had more chances to win by a greater scoreline. Jackson was delighted with the "captain's performance" given at the back by Rob Edwards and who also scored the game's first goal after Town's Andy Booth had squandered two excellent chances. Jackson does hope that the big hitman is fit and ready to face Bury at Gigg Lane, following Booth's injury during the first half. Jackson said "I am delighted for the players" optimising the desire he has that his players do well this season. Second Half Match Review (from HTAFC.com) Town had an excellent chance to increase the lead seconds later through the Schofield/Stead combination. Good work from Newby allowed Schofield to cross from the right-flank to Stead unmarked at the back post but the young striker headed directly into the arms of Miller Town were unrelenting and on 51 minutes Stead was inches from adding his name to the score-sheet. Schofield spotted Booth’s run into the box and duly fed the striker who pushed the ball across the goal-line for the sliding Stead but the youngster was just inches away. Andy Booth received a standing ovation for his contribution when he was replaced on 56 minutes by Nat Brown. Bristol striker Agogo went close just after the substitution, but his off-balance effort, provided by a Quinn flick, never troubled Gray. Ray Graydon made his first change of the afternoon on the hour-mark when Kevin Street was replaced by Lee Hodges. Town earned their third corner of the game when substitute Nat Brown’s persistence resulted in Christian Edwards hammering the ball behind. Brown latched onto Carss’ set-piece but his downward header bounced comfortably into Miller’s hands. On 62 minutes scorer Robbie Edwards received treatment for an ankle injury. Brown continued to torment and forced keeper Miller to miss-kick which fell into the path of Stead, but the youngster’s first time effort curled over Miller’s bar. Graydon made his second change of the game on 70 minutes when Agogo was replaced by Willock. An already animated Peter Jackson was jubilant on 77 minutes when Jon Stead, already christened ‘Steadinho’ by some supporters, increased his tally to 5 in 6 games when he fired Town into a 2-0 lead. After good work by Danny Schofield, the young striker collected the ball on the left-flank 25 yards out and ran at Edwards. Turning the centre-back inside out, the homegrown youngster hammered a right-foot rocket in off the underside of the underside of Miller’s bar. Graydon then made his final throw of the dice when Wayne Carlisle replaced Rob Quinn. Ten minutes before the end Jacko replaced Jon Newby with Andrew Holdsworth Skipper Graham Hyde attempted to get his side back into the game with a powerful 25 yard drive, but keeper Gray was never troubled. On 88 minutes a clash of heads resulted in both keeper Gray and striker Tait receiving treatment on the pitch. In the third minute of stoppage time Paul Scott was booked for a foul on substitute Willock. In the last minutes of stoppage time Tait managed to pull a goal back for the visitors after good work by Willock. The substitute ran into the Town area and, passing the ball across the the goal-line provided the simplest of tap-ins for the tall striker- First Half Match Review (from HTAFC.com) The first chance of the game came on 5 minutes from the boot of Jon Stead who managed to create a scoring opportunity from nothing. A simple Hughes ball from the right flank was well controlled by the young striker on the edge of the area. He turned and hit a curling left-foot shot that flew just the wrong side of Miller’s post. Seconds later Booth crafted a superb scoring chance for Carss after the striker’s persistence allowed him to lay the ball into the midfielder’s path 8 yards out. Unfortunately, Carss miscued and the danger was cleared. Town continued to look dangerous in attack. On 8 minutes Schofield’s cross from the left was not dealt with by the visitors allowing Newby to hit a vicious shot from 6 yards that was deflected out for Town’s first corner. Fowler’s set-piece found Sodje whose header was cleared off the line, but only as far as Hughes. The right-back’s header trickled just the wrong side of Miller’s right-hand post as Booth’s slid-in in an to attempt to steer the ball goalward. On 18 minutes Town earned a free-kick to the right of the visitors’ penalty box. Carss' in-swinger was headed behind for Town’s second corner of the game which came to nothing. Lee Fowler was instrumental in providing Schofield with a half chance on 21 minutes after the winger latched onto to one of many of the Welshman’s penetrating passes from midfield. Schofield dragged the ball wide and hit a left-foot shot that was easily claimed by Miller. Booth was presented with the best opportunity to put Town in the lead just a minute later after good work down the right Newby to Hughes. A great ball in from the right-back invited Booth to hammer-home a trademark header, but the Town veteran headed straight into the arms of the grateful Miller. As the half-hour mark approached Bristol striker Paul Tait became the first player in referee Salisbury’s book. Town continued to look assured at the back and dangerous when going forward and it seemed like only a matter of time before the Terriers took the lead. They had to wait until 31 minutes when Robbie Edwards made a dramatic return from injury by showing his original striker instincts. The left-back, linking well with Schofield, hammered a left-foot shot that was deflected back into his path as he stormed into the Bristol area. He made no mistake with the follow-up, squeezing a tight-angled low-drive between Miller and his post. On 33 minutes Andy Booth had to receive treatment off the field for a cut to the head. The Town hero rejoined play 5 minutes later to the delight of the McAlpine faithful. The visitors earned their first corner five minutes before the break. When Boxall’s cross from the right-flank was headed goalward by Tait at the far post. Ian Hughes intercepted the effort to head behind. The set-piece came to nothing. The closest the visitors came to an equaliser came two minutes before the break when Street’s good work allowed Agogo to run into the danger area and hit a shot from 10 yards but Tony Carss was on hand to make a vital block. Stead became the second player in the referee’s book on 45 minutes - Town's first league win of the season in front of 8,486 supporters takes them to 16th place in the Nationwide League Division Three table LAST MATCH: Huddersfield Town 2-1 Bristol Rovers Town claim their first league win of the season with a 2-1 victory Bristol Rovers at the McAlpine Stadium this afternoon. Goals from Rob Edwards (who was returning from injury), with a fine left foot strike and a classy finish from Jon Stead won the game for Town. But manager Peter Jackson will be disappointed as Town conceded a late injury time goal (4 minutes into time added on) to Bristol Rovers, which saw Ian Gray's clean sheet go! (Synopsis from HTAFC.com) Today's teams: Bristol Rovers: Miller, Anderson, Edwards, Austin, Boxall, Street, Hyde, Quinn, Savage, Agogo, Tait |

Town will not appeal over Danny Schofield's red card in injury time of Monday's draw at Doncaster. Schofield will miss three matches which will be played against Northampton Town, Rochdale and Swansea. Peter Jackson believes that the foul warranted no more than a yellow card! Manager Peter Jackson is seeking fresh impetuous from his players following a disappointing 1 point haul from a possible six during the August Bank Holiday weekend Steve Yates will be missing for Town following a groin injury, which forced him off during the draw at Belle Vue (it is also the same injury he had at Sheffield United). However, captain Rob Edwards should be back for the weekend after overcoming an injury. He was only rated 50-50 for the game with Doncaster, but should be fit for the home game with Bristol Rovers Peter Jackson was delighted with the "fantastic turnout" of 2,274 Town fans to the away game at Doncaster Rovers Jackson believes it was a point gained rather than points lost, but warned "We just need the fans to be a little more patient because it's early days, we are just settling in and there's better to come. If we are going to do anything, though, we need to be winning our home games" Jon Stead he is committed to Town and will be staying at the McAlpine Stadium, despite a reported bid for the big striker 10 arrest's were made during the York City home match. Andy Booth's first goal of the season on seven minutes helped Town win a point away at Doncaster Rovers, but late in the game Danny Schofield was sent off for a harsh straight red card. Leo Fortune-West was on target for the home side in a entertaining fixture at Belle Vue, in front of over 7,000 fans. The draw means that Town are still waiting on a first win of the season in the league, and Town alarmingly near the bottom in 19th position Doncaster Rovers 1-1 Huddersfield Town Match Review (HTAFC.COM) Town threatened as early as the second minute through an audacious effort from Lee Fowler - the midfielder attempting to chip Warrington in the Rovers’ goal with a free-kick from the centre circle. Town persisted and had a good shout for a penalty waved away by referee Fletcher when John Thorrington, having latched onto a Booth flicked, tumbled in the area amid a sea of red shirts. However, Town did not have to wait long to open the scoring as Andy Booth put Town in front on 8 minutes. Tony Carss created, having jinked round a Rovers defender, he fed Thorrington whose miss-kick fell fortunately for Booth who managed to direct his reaction header past Warrington and into the back of the net – much to the delight of the travelling fans behind the goal. Town maintained the pressure through Ian Hughes down the right flank. The former Blackpool defender stormed down the wing and neatly fed Tony Carss on the edge of the area. The midfielder turned and shot first-time but Warrington was smartly down to smother the ball. The home side settled down and threatened with high balls into the Town danger area for big target-man Fortune-West, but skipper Sodje kept the tall striker quiet and keeper Ian Gray collected. The first sign of real danger from Rovers was a chip ball over the top of the Town defence for Paul Green. The nippy striker beat the rushing Gray to the ball but his attempted chip nestled safely on the roof of the net. On 20 minutes Ian Hughes became the first player in the referee’s book for a foul on Green. Attractive football from Stead created Town’s next chance midway through the half. Having skipped between a pair of red and white shirts he played a cross-field ball for Thorrington who launched curling cross into the box for Booth who rose above keeper Warrington to nod the ball goalward but Marples was on hand to clear the goalbound effort. The home side countered with a long ball up to Fortune West who turned and shot from the edge of the area, but the recovering Tony Carss made a vital sliding block. Keeper Gray was involved minutes later when a Rovers’ free-kick from 25 yards was curled towards the top left-hand corner of the goal, but the set-piece’s lack of pace allowed Gray to easily catch the ball. With 7 minutes remaining of the half the home side should have found themselves on level terms. Paterson supplied the lanky Fortune West with time and space at the back post but he directed his header into the advertising boards behind the goal. On 40 minutes Steve Yates found himself in referee Fletcher’s book for a foul on Paterson. Town looked for a second as the half came to a close through scorer Booth. Tony Carss and Jon Newby threatened, creating space for Booth to hit a rocket from the edge of the area. Unfortunately, Booth’s effort flashed wide of Warrington’s upright. Within a minute of the restart the home-side found themselves on level terms. A floated cross from the right from dangerman Paterson found the lofty Fortune-West who directed his header past Gray into the top left of the goal. Steve Yates got injured in the process – forcing Jacko into his first change – Yates was replaced by Paul Scott. Town re-grouped and threatened through goal hero Booth. The striker fed the overlapping Carss who picked out Thorrington at the far post but the American’s header was off-target. The home side forced their first corner when another long a ball to Fortune-West was headed behind by Sodje. The tall front man then squandered a free-header on the penalty spot when he latched onto Blundell’s cross from the right but made a weak connection allowing Gray to smother the danger. Rovers appeared settled by the goal and crafted a nice passing move that nearly resulted in a goal - only a fingertip save from Gray prevented Paterson handing Rovers the lead. A low drive from 20 yards from the right was impressively pushed wide by the diving keeper. Sodje became the third Town player in the book on 66 minutes. The Gaffer made his second change of the game when Jon Newby was replaced Danny Schofield who took up position on the left flank. The home-side earned their second corner of the game after a superb recovery block from Paul Scott. This signalled a period of pressure from Rovers, earning 3 consecutive corners as Gray saved from McIndoe and Hughes and Sodje headed behind crosses for Fortune-West. Paterson continued to torment the Town defence supplying most of the balls from the front men. He should have added his name to the score sheet on 74 minutes but he could only fire wide from 15 yards. After sustained periods of pressure Town broke and forced their second corner of the half on 75 minutes. Carss’ set-piece caused panic in the Rovers’ box but was eventually hoofed clear by Ryan. A minute later Schofield’s through-ball to Stead was cleared behind for another Town corner which came to nothing. As the game entered the final 5 minutes it was stopped as Ian Gray received treatment after he came off worst in a 50:50 challenge with McIndoe. Fortune-West was booked for an altercation with Sodje. In stoppage time substitute Danny Schofield was harshly red-carded for a challenge on Doolan LAST MATCH: Doncaster Rovers 1-1 Huddersfield Town Over 2,000 Town fans expected at Belle Vue for the match with Doncaster Rovers this afternoon Today's teams: Doncaster Rovers: Warrington, Marples, Foster, Ryan, Beech, Paterson, Green, Doolan, McIndoe, Fortune-West, Blundell. Doncaster are expecting a crowd of around 7,000 to attend tomorrow's game against Huddersfield Town. With Town almost sold out of away allocation, and the Main Stand at Belle Vue is sold out, Rovers are reporting that only a few tickets remain for the Town End and Pop Side Preview: Doncaster Rovers v Huddersfield Town (as seen @ The Match) Rovers have done well this season so far and are one of the form teams in the division. A excellent 3-1 win at Leyton Orient was followed up by an equally impressive 2-0 victory over Southend United at home. Rovers will include former Town striker Paul Barnes in the squad and quality finisher Leo Fortune-West. Fortune-West has already bagged 2 goals for Rovers as Doncaster have returned with a vengeance to the Football League. Town are expecting to take a massive travelling army to Belle Vue which will eclipse the 1,379 that watched Town drew 2-2 at Boston. Town have already sold all seating tickets for the Bank Holiday fixture, with tickets selling well for the standing area. With a huge crowd expected it should be a terrific atmosphere at the match. Not only will Town have a big contingent at Belle Vue, the Doncaster Rovers support will also be out in force, with the South Yorkshire club expecting a crowd of around 7,000 to attend. With the Main Stand already sold out at Belle Vue, the indicative crowd certainly looks likely to be reality. Dave Penny the Doncaster manager comments: "There should be a good atmosphere on Monday we we entertain Huddersfield with a great crowd behind us. They have a experienced side, so will test us. We have had them looked at and know that we will have to be on top of our game." With two Yorkshire derbies over a bust August Bank Holiday period, in which Town are looking for a first league win, it would be great if Town could gain both their first home and first away win over the bank holiday period. Town will need to be at their best to beat two inform teams and continue the good work done when they beat Derby County in the first round of the Carling Cup Town's record against Doncaster: (as seen @ The Match) There have been 11 matches played at Doncaster with Town winning six and losing four. Games with Doncaster have always produced goals with the highest number of goals in a match coming in a 3-4 defeat for the Terriers, that coming in February 1978. With just two draws during the historical head-to-heads between the Terriers and Rovers, it would appear that Town could break their winning duck on Bank Holiday, or Rovers could continue their impressive start to the League campaign. ...Consolidated Record: ...League Placing: ...Current Record (last three games): Likely Rovers team to face the Terriers: Andy Warrington; Simon Marples, Steve Foster, Tim Ryan, Chris Beech; Jamie Paterson, Paul Green, John Doolan, Michael McIndoe; Leo Fortune-West, Gregg Blundell.Substitutes: Francis Tierney, Ricky Ravenhill, Dave Morley, Paul Barnes, Barry Richardson (gk) - |

PASSIONLESS TOWN LOSE AS TROUBLE ERUPTS - Town drop to 17th place following a disappointing first league defeat at home to York City - LAST MATCH: Huddersfield Town 0-1 York City Huddersfield Town 0-1 York City Stats: York City scored the only goal of the game, coming in the first half. Town had 2 more shots on target with 5 than York and with 4 shots off target both Town and City had the same number. Town conceded 11 fouls but gained 15 and had 7 of the 10 corner kicks. Nogan (York) and Jon Stead of Huddersfield both got yellow cards and there was 1,220 visiting supporters in a crowd of 9,850. It was Town's worst defeat of the season, as York continued their 100% winning record to the new season. The average league crowd at the McAlpine is now 10,084. Town have yet to win in the league, following 2 draws and a single defeat. Both sides used 13 different players for the match, both making two substitutions. The goal was scored on 17 minutes by number 8 Lee Bullock Former Town striker Marcus Stewart has finally scored in the First Division this season. His goal came as Sunderland defeated Preston 2-0 at Deepdale. Stewart's strike on 41 minutes was Sunderland's second goal and eased the pressure on under-fire Blackcats boss Yorkshireman Mick McCarthy. Lets hope Town can put McCarthy under extended pressure by beating them in the Second Round of the Carling Cup at the Stadium of Light, next month Doncaster Rovers remain unbeaten, having won two matches (at Leyton Orient Match report from HTAFC.com Town still chase that elusive first win of the season having been sunk by a first half Bullock strike that handed the visitors all three points. There was no lack of effort from Jacko's squad as they worked hard in the second half to pull off another come-back. It was not to be as a well organised York side kept the Terriers at bay. Having had a late fitness test due to international duty, Sodje deserved the Man of the Match award from Match Sponsors atommedia Ltd. Town forced the first corner of the game after 60 seconds when Andy Booth, restored again to the starting line-up, rose majestically to flick on a Booty through ball into the path of Jon Newby. The former-Liverpool man, tried to turn Edmondson, but the former Town player managed to get a foot in and divert the ball wide for a corner. The resulting set-piece caused problems for the visitors' defence resulting in a second corner. This time the Thorrington set-piece fell beyond the onrushing Carss but managed to fall into the path of Stead whose cross was just too high for Sodje at the back post. The visitors broke immediately where Merris forced the visitors first corner of the game when his cross was blocked by Hughes. Gray punched the set-piece clear and Dunning could only sky his shot over the bar. The visitors nearly broke the deadlock on 9 minutes when a Wise through-ball found Lee Nogan in acres of space as the Town defence appealed for off side. The assistant linesman was having none of it and the ex-Reading man dragged his shot wide of Gray's right-hand post. Just after the 15 minute mark, the visitors took the lead when City's most experienced player with 150 appearances for the Minstermen, 22 year-old Lee Bullock, found himself on the edge of the area with time to control, turn and shoot into the top left hand side of Gray's goal. Straight from the restart Town's leading scorer Stead was cautioned for a foul on Wise, much to the annoyance of the Gaffer and the McAlpine faithful. Midway through the first half the visitors were forced into the first change of the game when Wise was stretchered off after an innocuous clash with Stead. Richard Cooper was the man chosen to replace him. The visitors forced their second corner of the game on 25 minutes when a George cross was blocked by Booty. The corner was taken by ex-Everton man Mitch Ward and caused panic in the Town area with Andy Booth finally clearing the ball. The half-hour mark saw the McAlpine worshipping their new hero after Sodje made up ground on Cooper to thwart what had initially looked a dangerous break by the substitute. Town forced their third corner of the game after a Fowler set-piece forced Hope to head behind under pressure from both Stead and Booth. Half Time: Huddersfield Town 0 York City 1 2 minutes after the break Lee Nogan had a golden opportunity to increase the visitors lead. A cross from goalscorer Bullock found the York front man on his own 10 yards in front of goal but, fortunately for Town, Nogan's weak header was simple for Gray. Town countered immediately through Tony Carss and Jon Stead. The ex-Oldham man carried the ball from Town's half and fed Stead wide on the left. Jinking round two defenders the youngster shot, but his low drive never troubled Overdale in the York goal. On 54 minutes Lee Bullock had the ball in the back of the Town net once again, but was adjudged offside when George's cross was played. Town countered down the left through the pacey Newby, who drove in a low cross for Stead who was inches away from supplying the finish. The young striker dragged the ball back from the by-line for Thorrington whose low shot was well saved by Overdale. The York City keeper then produced the save of the game from Stead. A Thorrington cross from the right-flank was volleyed goalward by the Academy product forcing an acrobatic reaction save from Overdale. Town continued to pressure and forced their fifth corner of the game after Jon Newby's industry down the left confounded the York defence but the set-piece was easily claimed by Overdale. On 62 minutes Nogan became the second player in referee Ross' book after scything down Jon Newby. The free-kick from the half-way line saw Town earn another corner after Sodje had pressured Overdale into fumbling the ball. The set-piece came to nothing. Town continued to pressure and on 67 minutes the McAlpine faithful and the Gaffer were incensed when the referee initially did not give what appeared to be a handball by Hope in the area and then what looked like a foul on Booth by Overdale in the York penalty area. Substitute Richard Cooper missed the best opportunity of the game on 71 minutes after George created space down the left flank and fed Nogan. Nogan stepped over allowing the onrushing Cooper a simple tap in but he fired his shot wide from 7 yards. On 74 minutes the Gaffer made his first change of the game when John Thorrington was replaced by Danny Schofield. He came on to the left flank, swapping wings with Jon Newby. 5 minutes later The Gaffer replaced Tony Carss with Jonathon Worthington. With 10 minutes left Town forced their 7th corner after a deep ball from Fowler found the head of Booth. His goalbound header was deflected over by Hope for a Town set-piece that came to nothing. Brass made his second substitution of the game on 85 minutes when Bryan Stewart replaced Liam George. With 3 minutes left to play Jon Worthington became the second Town player in referee Ross' book for an illegal challenge on Ward. Full Time: Huddersfield Town 0 York City 1 Manager Peter Jackson's comments following the York defeat: "We were beaten by a side that came here and did really well, especially the first half," he said. "They scored a wonder goal but I am disappointed because we never really got going. We didn't get our wide players in. We were better in the second half, but we never had a clear cut chance in the game. I'm disappointed about the performance, but I will have to pick the players up and go to Doncaster now. "We can play a lot, lot better. Another big crowd turned up to watch us today and we really just didn't perform but full marks to Chris Brass. The youngest manager in the football League - he came here with a game plan and they played to it. I cannot fault their tactics and they never gave us time or space on the ball to do anything. I'm not taking anything away from York City." "Cambridge will be up there, but I think York are the best side we played. We should be up there, we have thrown points away, but today I didn't think we deserved anything from the game. We did put them under a little bit of pressure second half, but there were no quality balls into the box for Boothy and Steady." Jackson reveals that all his 26 squad members are in training tomorrow, but hopes that Rob Edwards will be fit to play at left-back. He also said "We will be back", after the home defeat Match review (Huddersfield Town 0-1 York City) from @ The Match Peter Jackson's side are still awaiting a first league win, and will travel to Doncaster Rovers on Bank Holiday Monday needing three points to kick start the season. Passion might have been missing on the pitch but passion was certainly in the stands for this Yorkshire derby. Police made several arrests mainly from the away stand, as trouble flared both following the City winning goal and during the second half. Efe Sodje the Town Captain for the game, was at his very best and if only Town had 11 players with his sort of passion, then Peter Jackson's side would certainly not have been on the losing end of this match. Sodje hustled around the pitch and fought for every ball, and won most of his in air challenge's. However, like with most of Town's players his distribution at times let him down. Town fans tried in vain to roar on the players, who fell behind to a 20 yard bullet from York's Lee Bullock and Town failed to have any clear cur chances on goal. Town had a lively start to both halves and should have taken the lead early in the first half, but after that Town found York difficult to break down. It was infact York who made the better chances and late in the game could have scored a second but for poor finishing. Jon Stead and Andy Booth tried to create chances upfront, but the supply from midfield and the wings of quality possession ball and Town's lack of ability to keep hold of the ball helped sink Town to a first defeat of the season. To be fair to Town, the match officials did not help. Town had two penalties one a clear-cut penalty, when a York defender challenged Andy Booth and used his fist to clear the ball. It was on the blind side of the referee's assistant and the referee who was terrible throughout missed it. Town also have just 250 tickets remaining for the match at Doncaster on Monday, and it is stressed that no tickets will be available from the ground on Monday. And if there was trouble of this magnitude against York City, who knows what kind of trouble will be at Belle Vue on Monday. This is The Barmy-Army Man of The Match award: Efe Sodje |

Last night's man of the match Nigerian International Efe Sodje is delighted with the way Town play and the spirit, belief and commitment throughout the club. He also showed great empathy to the Town fans who he described as "unbelievable" George Burley (Derby County) manager believes Town will be pushing for promotion this season after seeing his County side brushed aside by rampant Town John Thorrington was booked last night for celebrating the goal he scored The main face behind the Town's retained list for this season was the now manager Peter Jackson Peter Jackson spread praise thickly onto all the playing staff after the cup win, but singled out Jon Stead for special praise "You wont find a better young striker than Jon Stead outside the Premiership at the moment". It is believed that some of the Premiership scouts at the game last night came to see young Stead Town will be in the Second Round draw for the Carling Cup, which will be made this Saturday and will be played on September 23 Sodje's heroic performance that delighted the Town fans not only gave great excitement and belief to the Town fans, but it also ensured cult status for the Super Eagle bandana man Town's Academy won 3-1 at Shelbourne and play UCD tomorrow. John McCombe (2) and John McAliskey were on target for the Town youngsters Peter Jackson leaped for joy as goalscorer John Thorrington celebrated his goal, Town's second and the eventually winner, following a great second half display from Town The Jackson spirit is flowing through Town now, with the never say die attitude and Sodje commented "I'm enjoying my football. Who wouldn't in a team which plays with such belief. And whoever we get drawn against -even a Premiership side- are not going to fancy coming here with our fans roaring us on like they did last night" Town are still waiting on an official court date to bring Town 'officially' out of Administration The official Derby County Internet site (DCFC.co.uk) report that other than the Derby goal (on 40 minutes) Derby's only other effort on target came in the third minute of stoppage time in the second half! Derby were clearly impressed by Jon Stead, and once Town had scored "Derby couldn't get back into the game" the site states. Also despite what some may say about the County line-up the site says that it was a "solid Derby side" LAST MATCH REPORT: Huddersfield Town 2-1 Derby County (Carling Cup First Round) A fantastic night at the McAlpine saw the Terriers come back from a 1-0 deficit at half time to beat First Division Derby 2-1 with goals from Stead and Thorrington. The McAlpine faithful again played their part giving Jacko's men superb vocal encouragement from start to finish, and showed their full appreciation at the final whistle with a standing ovation at the final whistle. All the players deserved the full applause and don't be surprised to see a few bandana wearing supporters at Boston at Saturday after Sodje made an impressive start to his Town career. Half Time: Town 0 Derby 1 Town were on the offensive early in the second half forcing their first corner of the half on 47 minutes after Newby had hassled Mills into a mistake. Impressive Town claim the scalp of Derby in the Carling Cup, after goals from Jon Stead and John Thorrington mark an excellent second half at the McAlpine for Town LAST MATCH: Huddersfield Town 2-1 Derby County (Carling Cup First Round) Tonight's crowd is 6,672. The 6,000 what the club wanted to is achieved, which will delight the Town staff even more and tantamount to the belief, passion and sheer brilliance of the Town fans FIRST HALF: Huddersfield Town 0-1 Derby County The visitors kicked off towards their own supporters and for the first few minutes both teams traded early possession. The Rams had the first opportunity of the game when Yates failed to control a ball on the half way line and the visitors broke at pace through Jackson. Jackson clipped a cross to the far post where Costa managed to get in a effort, which under pressure from the Terriers defence, he blazed over the bar. The visitors nearly had another chance minutes later when Taylor broke down the right but a superb covering tackle by Sodje not only robbed the Derby skipper of the ball but started Town on their first real attack of the game. Town in a matter of seconds had turned possession from their own area into a half chance for Stead who latched onto a ball over the top and just failed to guide his lob into the open net and past the stranded Grant in the Derby goal. Town had the visitors defence worried again on the ten minute mark when a ball by Schofield found Stead who with seemingly nothing on proceeded to pass two Derby defenders and make his way into the penalty box. Unfortunately for the Terriers, Mills just managed to get a vital foot in and prevented the two-goal hero from Saturday getting a clean strike on goals. Just after the quarter of the hour mark Derby forced the first corner of the game after a cross from the left was cut out by the impressive Sodje. The resulting set piece was well defended by Hughes and cleared to safety. On 20 minutes Town forced keeper Grant into his first real save of the game when great link up play by Stead and Carss released Newby down the left. The ex-Liverpool man managed to make room for the shot and tried to place his effort into the bottom right hand corner, but unfortunately keeper Grant managed to get his body behind the ball and comfortably saved Newby's shot. A minute later Town had their first corner of the game after Schofield had an effort blocked by Caldwell, the resulting Thorrington set piece found Sodje on the penalty spot but the bandana wearing centre half just failed to power his header the right side of the Rams goal. The visitors forced their second corner of the game on 24 minutes after a Tome speculative effort was blocked by Yates. The resulting set piece somehow found Elliot at the far post but he was unable to place his header on target and keeper Gray was able to watch the ball loop over the bar. Town came close to opening the scoring on 31minutes when Thorrington won the ball well down the Town right and put in a great cross which Stead tried to connect with, but under pressure from Mills the ball spilled loose. Stead reacted first only to see his effort saved by the feet of keeper Grant. The ball ran loose and Newby did well to firstly stop the ball and then get in a shot whilst on the ground, but, unfortunately for the Terriers keeper Grant was across well and managed to smoother the ball just as Newby's effort was goal-bound. The 40th minute brought the first booking of the game after skipper Edwards was adjudged to have fouled Tome. The resulting free kick was well saved by Gray down low to his left but unfortunately for the Terriers Jackson reacted first and put in a cross which Ian Taylor met and beat Gray from 6 yards put to put the visitors one up Team News: Efe Sodje starts for Town against Derby in the cup replacing Martyn Booty. John Thorrington replaces Tyrone Thompson. The full team is Gray, Sodje, Hughes, Yates, Edwards (c), Thorrington, Fowler, Carss, Schofield, Newby and Stead. Derby line up including former Town striker Tome, and Lee Morris is named on the subs bench: Grant, Caldwell, Mills, Elliott, Jackson, Valakari, Taylor, Huddlestone, Boertien, Tome and Costa MATCH PREVIEW: Huddersfield Town v Derby County (Carling Cup First Round) Town who are delighted to be able to take part in competitive football again this season, are delighted with the prospect of a big club coming to the McAlpine Stadium for the first round match that will be settled tonight. If after 90 minutes the scores are tied, the game will go into extra time and penalties if required. Peter Jackson will be looking for the same passionate application as he got in the opening league match at home against Cambridge United. Despite only grabbing a 2-2 draw, Jackson was delighted with the passion showed by his players. George Burley, will be looking for more from his Derby side, who was comprehensively beaten at Pride Park by Stoke City (0-3) in their First Division encounter. Stoke City struggled with the strength of the Stoke City forwards, and so Jackson will be opening his big men can cause problems for Burley's men. Efe Sodje will start the game, in Town's only change. He will replace Ian Hughes in defence, whereas the visitors will need to replace the injured Izale McLeod. Jon Stead is looking to add to his tally of 2 goals, whilst Newcastle on-loan man Gary Caldwell will be looking to improve on his performance for George Burley at the centre of defence. Town's loan men Tyrone Thompson and Lee Fowler have both been given authority to play by Sheffield United and Coventry City respectively. Sodje will replace Ian Hughes in the Town starting line-up the only change to the Town side from the league game at the weekend. It is reported the reason that Peter Jackson did not play Sodje was because he felt after just three days training he was not match ready for the encounter with the U's Tony Carrs has been announced as the regular penalty taker for the Terriers Season tickets, bondholders and box holders number 6,384 Sandwich chain "Subway" will supply refreshment to the Town squad as they travel to away matches On Saturday three former Town players scored. Admission is £10 for adults, £7 OAP's and Under 16's are just £3 Town's Nigerian star Efe Sodje, will start today as manager Peter Jackson plots the downfall of the Rams Town issue warning to away supporters, that standing will not be tolerated at the McAlpine this season Peter Jackson was delighted with the commitment of his players following the game with Cambridge United. However, the Town boss was disappointed that Town did not hold on for a win in the game that was played in soaring heat. Town fans seem content with the point, as the team played with the trademark Jackson passion, but improvements can be made in the defence Town draw 2-2 in opening match with a delightful Jon Stead double. The visitors took the lead in the 18th minute, and spoilt Peter Jackson's homecoming (he was given a stirring welcome by the 5 figure McAlpine faithful) as the U's equalised with just seconds remaining Squad photo, as Town's 2003-2004 squad model the new kit Last Match: Huddersfield Town 2-2 Cambridge United |
