Huddersfield Town nPower League 1 2011/12 Fixtures
|
|
This morning the nPower Football League One Fixtures have been released for what Terriers supporters hope will be a promotion push right from game day one - Saturday August 6th and that's against newly promoted Bury at the Galpharm Stadium. For the first time since the 2002/2003 season Town will start and finish the regular League One season at home with Yeovil Town completing the 46 round schedule on Saturday May 5, 2011. All the chat is over and supporters can now organise their lives for the next nine months, which will again feature many trips south, but includes more local matches than the previous two seasons ( away travel review). The opening league fixture will then be followed up with a Carling Cup First Round tie trip to Port Vale likely to be on Tuesday August 09.Town's first Tuesday night match of the season is a trip to Hartlepool United, a venue they visited on a Tuesday night in 2010/2011 winning 1-0. The four matches against our Yorkshire rivals take place on Tuesday September 13 2011 (Sheffield United away), Saturday December 17, 2011 (Sheffield Wednesday away), Tuesday February 14, 2012 (Sheffield United home) and Saturday April 7, 2012 (Sheffield Wednesday home). The longest away trip this season to Exeter City takes place on Saturday October 15, 2011 and the League One schedule has been particularly kind for the Terriers with most of the midweek matches relatively short journeys and the key holiday fixtures home matches. There is the traditional busy period during Christmas and New Year and the Easter break in April. Town host Chesterfield on Boxing Day (15:00) and Carlisle United on New Years Eve (15:00) (there is no New Year's Day fixture). The first match of 2012 as the Terriers travelling to Meadow Lane to face Notts County. During Easter, Sheffield Wednesday is the Easter Saturday visitors to the Galpharm Stadium (15:00) with Town travelling to AFC Bournemouth on Easter Monday (15:00). FA Cup First Round is Saturday November 12, 2011, with the Johnstone's Paint Trophy First Round week commencing August 29, 2011. Lee Clark's side will be looking to build upon the excellent progress made during a record breaking 2010/2011 61 match season which saw Town miss out in the Play-Off Final at Old Trafford in May. The players return for pre-season training on July 01, and in front of them prior to League One kick-off is a compelling programme to achieve the fitness to get them hitting top form from game one. Of the last ten opening day matches, the Terriers have won four, including the 3-0 stunning victory at Notts County last season, drawn three and lost three. The last home fixture on opening day was the 1-1 tie with Stockport County in 2008/2009. Town have failed to score only once during the matches (0-2 loss at home to Brentford, 2002/2003) and maintained three clean sheets. Last season's victory ended a run of two draws on the bounce. Of the ten matches Town have played five at home enjoying two victories, two draws and that defeat to Brentford. Of the nine matches Town have played six at home tasting the two victories, two draws and two defeats. Away from home there have been three matches and Town have won once and lost twice. The ten matches this decade on opening game day as recorded a combined total of 111,536 attendance (55,545 from the five home matches). An overall average of 11,154 (home only -11,109).
