Also be cautious when giving out any details about yourself, remember the Internet is an inanimate object, the other person may not be what he/she says she is.

Instructions on using the JAVA Chat room facility

1. Wait for the chat room applet to load and then click on then: (close any advertising using the 'close cross')

2. Enter a name in the 'Your name' section

3. Enter a profile in the 'Your profile' section (although you do not have to do this)

4. Then click on the 'Chat!' button to enter the room

5. To return to the Internet site click on the 'Return to website' link, this will take you back to the homepage

6. You will then enter the chat room interface. A list of users will be displayed, to see a users profile click on their name

7. To send a message, type in the message (white box) and press the enter/return button. The list of names is in the order the users entered the chat room

8. To turn off audio alerts and other 'default' settings click on 'options'

9. To leave the chat room, click on the 'closing-cross'

10. To have a 'Private chat' with any other users simply double click on the users name

If you find you have any problems using the JAVA chat room software you may need to make changes to your web browser. See here for a graphic of how to set up your Internet properties that should allow JAVA to operate correctly on your system. If JAVA is not working and you have selected the options under Microsoft VM, you will require the Sun Microsystem update which can be downloaded here then referring to the graphic make sure only the option with the red point is selected.

  3. No foul or abusive language in the main room
  4. Please remember for a private chat to use the private message function

  6. Please also refer to other rules for the particular area you are accessing
  7. Please never exchange telephone numbers or addresses through this chat room, if you must please understand we have no control over this so please ascertain caution when doing so (no responsibility can be shown by the site over contents found or information disclosed by any users whilst using this facility).
